I really like your highway layout. You've shown very interesting details such as the signs and the interchanges. Your city has a great road infrestructure; great planning for sure. Good work

Nice signage. A very thorough update. I think I missed the exit to Schulman Street...

    A TOUR OF SR-40 AND SR-25

    REPLIES:

dfvna:  1) I thought so myself.

    2) Patian County has their exit tabs on the left for right or left exits. The logic behind that is if they are placed on the left, then they can read the signs faster, as people read left to right.

    3) I'm planning more tours when more freeways and expressways are built.

sedimenjerry:  1) Well, that is the classifications. Something that might help is looking up the terms on Wikipedia.

    2) Looks almost exactly like mine. The transit planners must think a roundabout is a good way to end a freeway, as I do.

deathtopumpkins:  1) Ah. I see it now.

    2) Well, you said that I inspired your freeways.

    3) Correct. The region does not distinguish between ramps on the same interchange.

    4) Not to my knowledge. I thought of it independently, as I explained above.

    5) Actually, I used the Delaware heralds, but the Virginia ones look the same.

    6) It is the region's standard to not have exit plaques at the terminating side of a freeway.

RushHourFreak: Thank you. Most of the planning was long-term. If you lay down freeways (especially RHW ones) before the area develops, it usually works. Another factor is experience. Once you know about your region's traffic patterns, you can build capacity accordingly.

Schulmanator: Thanks. Perhaps you should have gone on 409 North instead of South 3.gif.

I am going to give another tour of roads in the Adamsburg area. It has developed a lot since the last update, and this region view is only 2 days old, but it has developed a lot since then. The new development will be shown in the next update.

I was expecting a positive response, but not like this one. I'm glad you all like the tours.

Today we'll tour one freeway and one expressway. The freeway is SR-40 and the expressway is SR-25, which was recently constructed.

    90835474pm9.jpg

The direction we are travelling will be at the top of the picture.

We'll start with SR-25, the Adamsburg Expressway. As it is an expressway, and not a freeway, it has multiple at-grade intersections, but is designed for higher capacity and speed than a regular road.

The northern terminus is here, and this is where SR-25 begins:

    78055352gf9.jpg

Furthur down, we come to an intersection with City Route 10, and the first sign assembly:

    55430582cb8.jpg

There is a right turn ramp off of City Route 10, and here is a picture showcasing it. It is designed to carry inter-city traffic from Lutland to the Lebanon area:

    15791261vf9.jpg

Back on 25 South, the expressway curves, and becomes SR-25 West:

    87033496rv7.jpg

Before an overpass of SR-51, we go through another intersection, this one with Central Avenue:

    69536701gs2.jpg

On the approach to the bridge, a sign warns us that no vehicles over 10 tons are allowed on it:

    13629719rw3.jpg

After the bridge, there is another intersection with a minor road. This one is not signed:

    41383816rn4.jpg

The SR-25 expressway ends here, becoming City Route 25 to West Adamsburg:

    10aj8.jpg

We'll now begin our tour of SR-40. The freeway begins in North Clearview, and meanders through Lebanon and then here in West Adamsburg. It is here where the express lanes terminate and the collectors become the freeway:

    11nk7.jpg

The collectors converge to become the freeway in a smooth curve. There is even a lake inside it.

    12ix4.jpg

And it is here that the express lanes end at a roundabout. Note that the signs are for the freeway, which is on the right of the image.

    13da1.jpg

Furthur along, SR-40 intersects South Avenue via a roundabout interchange. From here on, SR-40 goes to Addisboro, and SR-65:

    14vv6.jpg

And here is the southern terminus of SR-40 in Addisboro. It is a Semi-Directional T interchange:

    16lm3.jpg

    That's all for this update.

Click on the images for FULL resolution and clarity.

There are no exit plaques on the signs on this tour because the number of junctions has not been finalized.

Wow. Two expressways cross in your region without an interchange!

    Another excellent update.

Will SR-25 ever extend westward to meet SR-40? It seems only logical.

Cool. I see what you mean about the exit tabs. I think my favorite pic is the one with the local/express set-up and how you have bridges to prevent weaving in and out.

Wow, that was a nice tour PM!  Nice use of signage, both in-game and those you added.  Your sloping looks great for that overpass and you have a good connection between collector and express lanes.

    Looking forward to more!

    CITY ROUTE 10

    REPLIES:

    un1: Thanks.

deathtopumpkins:  1) Technically an expressway and a freeway, but yes. That's one of only 3 rampless crossings.

    2) It will.

dfnva: Thanks. Glad you like the bridge. Something that simple prevents a nightmare from developing.

    haljackey: Thank you.

I have decided to show you City Route 10, which has been extended to Lutland as Patian County's first major toll road. Here's a map:

    21193470bk1.jpg

Click for FULL resolution and best clarity.

After it's western terminus with SR-25, CR-10 continues eastbound, and we encounter it's first toll, and stop to pay 25 cents:

    52589176lh5.jpg

And now we proceed to a large intersection with a semi-directional ramp. After this, a toll booth collects more money:

    32848467fd3.jpg

Another shot of that intersection is going to go on the SC4D Picture Contest.

The last intersection on the road is here, along with another toll booth:

    33531128eg5.jpg

The next junction is a Parclo B-20 under my system. The toll booths are where the ramps converge, thus saving time and money in construction:

    73105219hs8.jpg

This type of Parclo interchange is common along CR-10.

Then we enter the East Dixon area, and the next junction is another B20:

    45452680uc2.jpg

Furthur along, we pass by a raised road intersection:

    83285383ke6.jpg

And then we go through the densest part of East Dixon:

    91846450wv4.jpg

And another B-20 parclo. From here on it is one straight trek to Lutland:

    14900240oj9.jpg

    That's all for this update.

Nice toll road. At the intersection with the semi-directional ramp, the WB->NB ramp should have a toll booth on it, I would think, as it branches off right before the main toll plaza.

    READY FOR DEVELOPMENT

    REPLIES:

    un1: Thank you.

    deathtopumpkins:  1) Thanks.

    2) Yes, it does. I didn't even notice it. The error has since been corrected.

The Adamsburg area, with the completion of the SR-75 spur, will be ready for complete development.

    11415127ij6.jpg

For the moment, we'll take a tour of it.

SR-75 begins at I-609 north of Fort Centralis:

    95495682my2.jpg

    2ati0.jpg

The eastern terminus is close to a diamond interchange. Overpasses have been built to prevent weaving. This interchange is presently unsigned:

    2bso5.jpg

Furthur westbound in Juranburg, SR-75 intersects with an avenue via a cloverstack variant with left exits. This has been shown in the Show Us Your Interchanges! thread:

    11636193te8.jpg

As SR-75 approches it's western terminus, it narrows it's median:

    66428323cc0.jpg

And here it terminates with a route that parallels SR-51 via a roundabout interchange:

    75782122kh7.jpg

That's all for the tour of SR-75.

The next few updates will detail the development of the area.

Wow. Those are some wonderful interchanges I especially like the cloverstack with left exits. That seems like it would be best for maximum traffic flow. I also think the signs are a nice touch. Very creative.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE NEW AREA - PART I

    REPLIES:

jmoats3: Thank you. It will maximize traffic flow if everyone keeps to their appropiate lane.

    crazyarchitect: You do? Thanks.

deathtopumpkins:  1) That was the objective.

    2) They seem to have.

    sedimenjerry:  1) Thank you.

    2) Ah, yes. Nerdly_Dood created something like that at SC4D in the Intersections thread. Check it out. It's in the "Pictures" category.

The new area is developing steadilly. Some things within it are quite interesting, and I'm going to show some of them in this update.

Here's a region view for reference:

    28426621zl6.jpg

In Juranburg, the cloverstack variant has been beautified:

    12027982xi1.jpg

To the north, a new overpass has been constructed to accomodate a surface avenue:

    26746929qz2.jpg

Over to the northwest, a section of housing forms the main area of Juranburg:

    36389220ak5.jpg

To the east is a commercial area. Note the HOV road, the first of it's kind in Patian County (I just downloaded those lots 2.gif):

    91895400ef6.jpg

To the west of the housing area, there is another block of residential, with a street plan resembling a fused grid:

    98945946ui5.jpg

And furthur northwest is another residential area:

    44981720zn3.jpg

Meanwhile, in East Adamsburg, a development has sprung up near the toll road:

    69149555vp6.jpg

And the oversight about the ramp has been corrected with a new toll booth:

    12923179ba8.jpg

Over in West Adamsburg, connections to South Clearview are being made. After the grid plan of Clearview terminates, a residential area is being built.

The area has many interchanges, showcased in this pic:

    13585195un7.jpg

In the southwest, there is a classic Parclo A42 (A4) that connects two avenues:

    10cv2.jpg

North of the parclo, a roundabout interchange provides the dividing line between commercial and residential:

    11ns1.jpg

Before the interchange, there are a few signs for gas stations:

    12io4.jpg

Over to the southeast of the area, two roundabouts provide connectivity for a variety of roads:

    13zu0.jpg

To the northeast of the roundabout interchange, we encounter West Adamsburg's first residential area:

    14ib0.jpg

Lastly, over to the east, there is a SPUI interchange. Since it looks so good in suburbs, perhaps it should be renamed "Single Point Suburban Interchange" 4.gif:

    15vw8.jpg

    That's all for now.

    Please post comments and suggestions.

As always, an excellent showcase of your work. I like the new interchanges/overpasses and the roundabouts.

-Also, I see you included a Petrol Canada ad next to BP. Only in Simcity would the two be together... 3.gif

That was a pretty good-sized update.

Nice residential areas, I can tell you like fused grid plans with lots of roundabouts, and of course nice interchanges, even though that goes without saying. 9.gif

It's nice to see an update that shows more of development then highways. There's definately more to your region than highways.

    ADAMSBURG DEVELOPMENT - PART II

    REPLIES:

haljackey:  1) Thanks. I'm glad you like them.

    2) Yes. Only in Simcity...

deathtopumpkins:  1) It wans't intended to be that big, but it sort of grew as I zoned more.

    2) You guessed correctly about that fused grid.

    3) Yes, it is nice to have a temporary refocus. Where roads go, people follow.

sedimenjerry: I see. Which could a new SPUI be? A SPUI, SPSI, or SPRI?

To the people who said I couldn't make this:

    10791917dy5.jpg

I'm happy to report that I've made a volleyball SPUI, which is basically a stack with an intersection at the center:

    61895770ww2.jpg

Of course, it looks like two SPUIs hooked up together, but it performs the same function.

    Anyway, onto the development.

Many commercial areas are accompanying the residential development, including this strip mall:

    46820943id4.jpg

East of the cloverstack, a new strip of commercial has enveloped the HOV road:

    15266504wx7.jpg

To the south of the large district, a smaller strip of stores have been built paralleling the interchange:

    70905479dw6.jpg

Over to the west, the three-way roundabout interchange had to be extended westbound:

    31800013zq2.jpg

To the north of this, another block of residential has popped up:

    40606115lp3.jpg

And another has appeared next to an avenue with sound walls:

    52262376mr7.jpg

Lastly, yet another residential development has popped up like a mushroom:

More will come in the coming days.

I stand corrected! Apparently you can make that interchange, or at least a functional representation of it.

I love the way your residential always developes, and those shops are looking pretty nice.

    THE DIOXIA RING ROAD

    REPLIES:

Rictiovarus: Thanks. The trees have just been planted, and as such it is sparse. Areas built in the past have more trees in them.

deathtopumpkins:  1) Error has been fixed 3.gif.

    2) Thanks.

    sedimenjerry: Thank you.

Meastro444: I'm glad you are. Good luck!

    Schulmanator: Thank you.

A few days ago, I accidentally clicked on the Dioxia city tile, which provides some of Western District with jobs.

I noticed that the area would benefit with a ring road. So, I took it on as a side project.

Due to the condition of the construction, and the urban nature of it, it has been classified as an expressway and not a freeway (legally, that is). However, it is functionally a freeway.

This classification was bestowed on it because of the nature of the road surface, and because it did not entirely meet weaving standards for freeways in Patian County.

So, here is a regional view of the new road:

    84945386ro6.png

And a more detailed view, showing the ramps and junctions:

    0axm4.png

    Click for FULL resolution.

The junctions are numbered clockwise from the west junction with I-2.

Here's the 3/4 three-level stacked roundabout interchange with I-2, which is where the numbering begins:

    85556172vn3.jpg

As you can see, it is getting some use.

Junction 2 is a diamond interchange, which interfaces with Junction 1 ramps to prevent weaving:

    70919527vo0.jpg

And the ring road curves to the east:

    50341797oc9.jpg

A few hundred meters along, and Junction 3 appears, which is another diamond:

    71985105se2.jpg

Junction 4: The Ring Road intersects a Maxis highway via a volleyball interchange:

    30137726xp1.jpg

Then the ring road curves south:

    71711739uq8.jpg

For Junction 5, there is a Parclo B20, set up to prevent weaving with another interchange furthur south:

    98530795ay0.jpg

And Junction 6 is another volleyball interchange:

    10936937xn4.jpg

Then the road curves to the west:

    27208973wd3.jpg

And produces yet another volleyball for Junction 7:

    10yj2.jpg

Then for Junction 8, a classic diamond provides access:

    11um3.jpg

And the ring road makes it's final curve to complete the ring around Dioxia:

    12yv5.jpg

And here is a shot of the remaining portion. Notice the avenue split to the east:

    13pt7.jpg

    That's all for Dioxia.

The next update will return to Adamsburg, and more development.

Please post comments, suggestions, and questions.

Cool... I like the whole expressway feel conveyed on an avenue. And I've never really thought of building a ring road in SC4. Those are all some pretty cool interchanges, and it's obvious that they're very well-planned for traffic flow.

Lastly, are cars actually using I-2 or is that just from traffic generators?

Hmm... Its very interesting how you made the highway entirely out of an avenue.  Creative indeed!

Its creative how you have additional one-way roads going under the ave in the second picture.  It is a very interesting way to connect routes.

Overall, it looks like a good ring road, and I hope it will get some good use now that its completed!

    Best,

    -Haljackey
