I had a 4.0 9th & 10th grade, dropped to a 2.7 in 11th. My post-high school work has been 3.8 and higher.

My high school GPA ended up at about 3.6 (forget what it was exactly). My college GPA currently stands at 2.91. Now, that could be better if I put some effort into it, but eh, I'm lazy. I generally don't study much (or at all). Also, I tend to lose points on things not for lack of understanding the material but rather just because I'm being sloppy. Most professors won't give you full credit simply for getting the right answer- they want you to show your work in an neat and clear manner. And, given that my handwriting is complete crap and that I often skip writing down steps in my work which are quick, simple, in my head steps that I don't need to write down in order to be able to follow things (such as intermediate algebra steps- I tend to just go straight from beginning to end in one jump with that), this is a common source of slippage.

Also, for those of you saying you're getting an A+ in things, don't be silly. There's no such thing as an A+. An A is the highest grade possible.

Duke: I can sympathize with the temptation to short-change the work. You clearly are capable of better than 2.91 IMO regardless of which school you go to 2.gif.

In high school and law school, I did very average in relatively difficult classes.  In college I had terrible grades my first two years, and stellar my last two years.  I feel I am a bit of an underachiever, but maybe I think too highly of my capabilities 3.gif

Depends on the grading system.  Some have an A+ in the grading system.

    mostly a's, a couple of b's.

    Depends on your course load.

I taking the hardest and most intellectually challenging courses that the state has to offer.  About 3/4 of my schedual is AP/BC college level classes, the other fourth is Advanced.  I'm also doing research in the field of chemistry at the state university (which I'm probably going to end up going to anyway... it's not a bad school).  So I'm getting the most of my free education, but at the price of not being the top student.

Guh. Too many model students.....46.gif Given that the average student certainly does not have an A average, such a skewing is interesting to see. There are two key factors at play here, I'd think:

    1) This is not the drivel of the internet, this is a somewhat higher class site. Which means that, to begin with, we likely have an abnormally high proportion of nerds as compared with the general real world populace.

    2) Everyone with an A average who sees this thread is going to post immediately, whereas people who are further down are going to be more hesitant to post. Since this is voluntary and not random, we don't even have a representative sample of the Simtropolis population.

Wow all you guys have 4.0s.... Well i go to a rather challenging high school, supposedly harder than some colleges. My average is about a 3.0, B average. Gahh hope that GPA will allow me into UCs! I find out in two months!

Where in the world do you go to school?  Around here, a 71% is a C- which is the equivalent of 1.67 GPA.

wir3d: If you're going to make a thread, please participate in it.  I mean, even if you only posted once, and that was it, at least post the sort of information that you're asking from the rest of us.  It's just good etiquette.

As for myself, I have a 3.33, which, if you take away all the "you missed an A by some thin margin" crap, would have been a 3.75.  Oh well.  3.gif

s.i.X's school suffers from grade inflation. he'll realize that a 71 is a C- when the colleges scale down his grades.

Perhaps we should have a poll in this thread so that those with lower GPAs can "tell" other people their GPA without worrying about judgement or whatever.

Was 80% on my last report card... I could be doing much better, but because of my ADD, I'm in the same situation as Duke... I lose marks for incomplete work... hell, sometimes I don't even do my assignments because I can't motiveate myself to do them.

You're not automatically a nerd if you have a high GPA. 3.gif No, but it's really not fair to compare my grades since I only have 4 classes per semester, although I worked a bit hard on my Honors classes, most people have abnormally high GPAs over at my High School.

well also some of the lower grades this site has (7th, 8th, 9th) are much easier than the higher ones. So maybe we just havn't heard from many people who are in 11th, 12th grade or college.

I'm in 9th homeschool. My mom has averaged me as a B. B - Science, A - Language Arts, B - Social Studies, B - Math. I also passed the big test in 8th homeschool with a B average on it.

Funny how, before being homeschooled my grades were generally Cs and Ds, and most of the stuff they were teaching me in 7th was 6th grade material. It was difficult to catch up in 8th homeschool. Just proves how much of a crap education system Ehmurikkuh has.
