You raise something I've always wondered about. How does one get a 4.3 GPA? Even if I ace everything my university professors throw at me, I'll still only end up with a 4.0. Someone care to explain?

I'm a junior in high school, get mostly A's and a few B's.

I used to make all 95% or higher, but that was before high school, lol.

In 9th grade I kinda started letting my grades slip (compared to what I was getting before, anyway).

So I actually could be getting all A's if I wanted to, I guess.

Freshman year I did get a 99 percentile on a national standardized test & also won a math competition at my school.  So I guess that makes me kind of smart lol.

Wow.  81 is my grade nine average for the first semester.  I have two more terms to go (one semester) and let's hope that goes as good.

I feel stupid around you perfect grade students 3.gif

Likely there are different systems for GPA.

And with a bit of research, I figured out my GPA equivalent for my average: 3.0. (In Alberta, that's what it would be anyways.)

If you take Honors, a B in that class is worth an A, and if you get an A, it's worth more, which gives you a higher GPA. I'm not sure about AP classes since they're not available to me. I had a 4.25 last semester because I had one Honors class since I had to take my electives first, this semester I have 3, and if I get A's, My GPA will be raised to 4.75. I just say I have a 4.0 though, because some states don't care about this.

Colleges have started to look for home-schooled students, as they typically are beyond their public-schooled peers. I know several families that home-school large families, and they are producing some excellent results, including kids starting college programs while their peers are in sophomore year. It's not for everyone, and requires a saint's measure of patience and determination for the parents that choose this route.

I've had A's and B's since 6th grade (Almost all A's in 8th). This year (9th grade 1st quarter) I got an A+ in Business, A in French, A- in English, and A in Home Improvement. I just finished my final exams but our report cards don't come out 'till the 2nd week of Feb or something..I have to look again. All I know about the 2nd quarter is that I got another A- in English and a B+ on the final exam.

9th grade and I had a 100.0 in the first quarter, but now I *only* have a 98.7 (darn AP W.H. midterm)... the funny thing is I'm probably not even tenth in the class.  3.gif

My entire life has been As. I've got a current overall average of 99.8% (they don't call me smarty for nothing) in classes that are 9th grade, 10th or college level. (I'm in 8th right now, but not taking any 8th grade courses, I don't see why they don't let me skip a grade, unless gym is really that much of an important grade)

Well, in college it varies from class to class and professor to professor. I've had classes where a 71 would be a B-, and classes where it would be a C (not C-). I've also had professors grade on a curve, thus meaning it could even end up being an A if the class as a whole doesn't do too well. But that's rather typical in college, especially since the transcript only lists letter grades, not your score in the class. I've seen it done in high school, but it's less common. And since there you generally need to report the number, the method is to apply a curve to alter the numbers, not one just to alter the grades. My Physics midterm was graded according to the formula 103-2x, x being the number of questions wrong (there were 45 questions)

At GCSE (10th Grade)?

Well my grades were A* A* A* A A A A A A A B C

I would say that makes my average A/A*

At A Level? (11th Grade)

I have only done one piece of work that came back lower than a B and 90% of my work is at A.

If you take Advanced Placement or International Bacculerate at my school you actually get a 6.0 weighted GPA for an A earned.  For honors classes it's a 5.0 and for "standard" classes (which, outside of electives, nobody really takes unless they're forced into them) it's a 4.0.

I'd have to agree (with the comment by Duke on page 1) that the sample of people on this forum is unstatistical and suffers from some sort of bias. Just because this is an internet forum there are going to be some significant changes in what the "mean" of the sample is compared to the mean of the population, mostly because the "normal" people who get GPAs you'd "expect" use the Internet mainly to socialize with friends they know in real life using Facebook (most likely), Myspace (less likely), or something similar.

Plus, Simcity's a rather nerdy game.  Ask people on a Halo forum or a Guitar Hero forum  or (gasp) a DDR forum what their grades are and the results should differ significantly.

Anyway... now that exams are over, I got a 96 in AP Stats, 97 in Latin (only a guess - the official grade is only an "A" now that I finished the course), 98 in AP Calculus AB, 96 in German, 97 in AP Human Geography, 95 in AP English Lit, and a 99 in Theatre.  All of which is scary.

I'm in 10th grade, and so far I'm doing quite well. Last semester I got straight A's, something that I had not accomplished since 8th grade. In my freshman year, I slacked off on my work and got half B's and A's once. Currently, I'm trying my best to keep my good grades up!

I'm homeschooled but I'm now taking a single course at my community college. Spring was the requirement for all computer courses(CIS 107 Introduction to Operating Systems), I got a B+ on that(B, F, B+ and A on exams and papers). In the Fall I took another computer course(CIS 225 Troubleshooting Operating Systems) I got a B on that (B, C, B, and A on exams and papers). My mum forced me to pick ethier English or Algebra, I choose Algebra [which is really boring and confusing(but I'm quite lazy and I don't work well without a calculator)]. So far, my first test was a F and my next one is tommorow. I'm betting for a D, but I'm doubtful.

I find it very strange that 85% of the people here make mostly A's. Just to add some balance here, the grades I usually get in my courses are mainly C's and D's. Also, my overall g.p.a is probably a 2.0.

I also am homeschooled, I used to go to a "regular" school (well, a private school that was supposedly harder than regular public schools...yeah right), and homeschooling has been a lot more challenging.  But I needed a challenge...or so my teachers kept telling me.  30.gif Anyway, I enjoy it, it has its pros and cons obviously, but I think it's helped me focus better on my schoolwork
