Cleaning your Mighty Mouse

I've had a mighty mouse for a long time and the scroll ball has made me nuts for a long time.  How do you clean the damn thing?

I've tried everything.  Water, Windex, paper towels, light cloths.  Nothing worked.

Until today.

I thought about my acne.  (It runs in my family.)  It's oils in my fingers that's stopping up the mouse and that's basically the same stuff as pimple goo, right?

So, I put a little bit of Clinique Scuffing Lotion 4.5 (an alcohol-based cleanser) on a paper towel, rubbed it hard on the mouse ball, and it works like new!

I just thought I'd share this little tidbit of info with the other Mac folks out there.  4.gif

I've had a mighty mouse for a while too and I'm too accustomed to using the scroll ball for panning safari pages and zooming in and out while holding command at the same time.

For me the scroll ball stops working every 2 days or so, from mostly which is probably true, oil from one's skin.

For me it usually just takes a rag damp with water and rubbing vigorously for a good minute then rubbing it again (very hard) for another minute, with the dry part of the rag.

I wouldn't dare use anything besides water on my electronics. I'm glad to know that you've found an easier way though.

The OFFICIAL way to clean your mighty mouse is to turn the bastard upside down and click down the scroll ball on a clean piece of paper and to rub vigourously! Works every time, repeat as needed no solvents required. The first few times you do this will need a lot of rubbing to rool the gunk from under the ball onto the paper but you can see the gunk streak.

Tschuss!

I can't scroll down and can barely scroll up. If I zoom in with the cmd button I can't zoom out again! ARGH! The solutions online all suggest getting mr screwdriver out, so I may try your method 4.gif
