Crazy Tom Cruise babbling about scientology

A four-year-old video of Tom Cruise talking about his Scientology beliefs has been leaked onto the internet.

Cruise is shown discussing how he wants to spread the message of Scientology, saying: "You're in the playing field or out of the arena".

In the edited video, which features the Mission Impossible theme, he says a Scientologist driving past an accident is "the only one who can really help".

A Scientology spokeswoman said the full video could be seen in its churches.

What appeared on the internet was a "pirated and edited" version of an acceptance speech Cruise had made in 2004 after receiving a "freedom medal" from the International Association of Scientologists, she said.

'Drug rehabilitation'

In the nine-minute edited version of the video, which has appeared on websites including video-sharing site YouTube, Cruise says: "Being a Scientologist, when you drive past an accident it's not like anyone else.

"As you drive past, you know you have to do something about it because you know you're the only one that can really help."

He said of being a Scientologist: "It's rough and tumble and it's wild and woolly and it's a blast.

"It's a blast. It really is fun because there is nothing better than going out there and fighting the fight and suddenly you see things are better."

He added: "We are the authorities on getting people off drugs, we are the authorities on the mind, we are the authorities on improving conditions... we can rehabilitate criminals... we can bring peace and unite communities."

'In or out'

Cruise said he wished "the world was a different place" and that he would "like to go on vacation and go and play".

That's what I want to be and there's times I'd like to do that but I can't because I know. I know."

He said Scientologists had no time for "spectatorism" but instead had "a responsibility to educate and create the new reality".

"You are either in or you're out," he said.

He added: "We have that responsibility to say, 'Hey, this is the way it should be done because we do it this way and people are actually getting better and let's get it done'.

"Let's really get it done - let's have enough love and compassion and toughness that we're going to do it and do it right."

'Sick stuff'

The Church of Scientology International spokeswoman said Cruise's speech had been made "before an audience of 5,000 church parishioners and their guests".

Cruise had been "honoured for his efforts in championing world literacy", the spokeswoman added.

Last week, Cruise's lawyer branded a new biography of the actor "sick stuff".

Bert Fields said Tom Cruise: An Unauthorised Biography by British author Andrew Morton - published in the US on Tuesday - was full of "tired old lies".

They included the "nutty" claim that Cruise was second-in-command at the Church of Scientology, he added.

The book's publisher has said it stands by the book and the author.quote>

The loved that episode of South Park, its explains in pretty simple terms what Scientology is... its astounding what people will believe these days, it doesn't surprise me that thick Celebrities that have lost touch with reality are taking these things up, i'm surprised Micheal Jackson hasn't joined, but then again, they wouldn't let him because he's apparently gone bankrupt and all it really is is a scheme to make money.

Man, scientology to me at least in my opinion and maybe i don't understand it but it seems to be a religion full of wack-jobs and people that think a UFO is gonna come and save us all.

Scientology is such a joke. It not a religion, it is not science, it is a bunch of kooks who have read WAY TOO MUCH L. Ron Hubbard. Since celebrities are 90% idiot, I am not surprised they jumped on the bandwagon. They should have converted to Judaism.. that's where Hollywood lives.

Now thats what i'm talking about!

SkiGeek: I don't remember specifically, but it was basically that aliens lost some intergalactic battle or something, and their spirits came into us on spaceships that just happen to look exactly like DC-8s, and the bad spirits are called thetans or some bull like that. I think I remember checking out the Wikipedia article after seeing the episode, and seeing that they matched up pretty well.

Anyway, I don't judge people on their religion. All religions, as well as lack of religion, look ridiculous to a non-member. So I don't think I should be a judge. I will, however, laugh at beliefs that are just ridiculous. And that science fiction novels written in the '30s through '50s hold the truths of the universe is quite ridiculous.

Giant soul catchers in the sky?

I know a scientologist.  It would be interesting to see what she says.

She'll not probably tell you much, because this is supposed to be restricted knowledge. You know, if you want to know the secret of Christianity, you go to a priest and he'll tell you. If Islam is more your cup of tea, an iman would probably be happy to tell you. If you want to go back to the Jews, a rabbi could help you out (even though they will be a little more hesistant). Buddist monks are not known hold back knowledge if someone wants to become more familiar with the reiligion. And the list goes on.

Scientlolgists, on the other hand, believes that only rich people can get to know the truth. If you're poor, it might even be deadly for you to know more about Xenu. If you meet the "missionaries" and agrees to one of their "tests", you'll find yourself behind a desk with a woman fiddeling with the voltage of a meter that the bars your holding onto are attached to. Afterwards, you'll be told to buy a book to learn more; and if you decline they'll harass for "wasting their time".

And there is of course Operation Snow White, where they infiltrated the American government, amongst the the Internal Revenue (they're crazy about taxes these guys), and Operation Freakout where they tried to have an critic commited to a mental institution (this is the same way the Soviet Union dealt with system critics). No wonder the Germans considers this a dangerous cult, might declare it unconstitutional and has its members under surveillance by their intelligence services.

Frankly, I don't see what all the fuss is about Scientology.  It is a cult founded by L. Ron Hubbard in one of his novels.  Why not have a Church of Foster as outlined in Robert A. Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land?

Just because someone sticks the words "Church of" in front of some noun, doesn't make it so.

That they're crazy wouldn't matter if it'd not been for countless lawsuits, frauds, harassment and that they are criminal. If you read about Operation Freakout, you'll see what they do to people -- and Operation Snow White show what they do to public agencies.

Ordinarily, I would be dismayed to see so many people down on a particular religion.

However, being somewhat familiar with the basic tenets of Scientology and its history as a tax scam founded by someone whose own family members acknowledged as having a questionable mental state...yeah, it's a flying crock of monkey poop. Sinister? Without a doubt.

My late father taught a course on cults and the occult at his church (30 years ago) and Scientology was among the subjects covered; I won't mention any others to avoid offending anyone. (Except Moonies, they are not allowed to use the internet so they wouldn't see this anyways.)

Mr Cruise also tried to get that episode of South Park scuttled.

But i think its been on the air a few times now.

Personaly i dont think he tried to get it taken

off because of the scientology part of that  episode.

It was the other  running gag he was tring to squelch.

L. Ron Hubbard was  mediocre ( at best ) sci fie writer.

one wonders if he did this as an experiment in mass Psycology

How many people can you get to belive in a totaly made up religion.

probably laughing  himself silly over how many people fall for it.

No, it's not because our alien souls are hurt, but but you're nurturing them... Why picket these psychiatrist? Psychologs with prescription pads, exactly what they need. Well, if your creed's basic pillar is tax scam, so... Maybe these accept cheques written in blood Burro? Try one and tell us if you're allowed to be enlightened!

[Comes back about an hour later after laughing so hard]

I am sorry, while I am a liberal and an agnostic at that, I don't care what Tom Cruise's accommplishments are;

He is a fruitcake, the Church of Scientology deserves nothing more than literally being target practice for the US Armed Forces, and sorry Admins, call it bashing if you want but that is my opinion of a cult that is beyond description for the word joke, and if Cruise keeps this up he'll be in same category too.

And after seeing Cruise's 9 min promo floating around YouTube well, I stick by that point

Cookies anyone?

I think the south park episode wouldn't have gotten half as many views as after Tom Cruise complained about it, if he hadn't mentioned it at all, it would have been just another South Park episode. It's a circular thing, like a sign that warns "Beware. This sign has sharp edges."

Oh dear. And I thought that Scientolgy was just some Christian sect. Apparently I was wrong. These guys are crazy. Now I'm with Germany one this! 3.gif Infiltrating the IRS? Sending critics to mental homes? (Like they did in the film Good Burger.) Protesting against psychatry? Harrassing you over a book? I'm with Palpatine on this one. And Easy Bakes. And manticorefan. And krbe. And Burro. And Stormont. And...... well, you get it! 3.gif

No, it's not a Christian sect but I'm not sure that the word "cult" applies either.  I always thought to be a "cult" required that the members withdraw from society and live in a controlled environment, like Jim Jones and his crowd.  Most scientologists are integrated into society and have normal jobs and stuff.  Well, not that Tom Cruise has a normal job but he isn't living in some walled off compound somewhere.

Now I'm with Germany one this! quote>

I'm not fond of the group either but declaring a religion to be illegal is one step away from declaring a state religion.   Of course, it depends on the definition of "religion".  As Robert Heinlien said, a skating rink is a house of worship as long as some sect declares skating to be essential to practicing their beliefs.
