So in the end it will be something from 350-370 for Obama, and 170-190 for McCain

Congratulations to President-Elect Obama! Even though I was not a supporter, I do think he will be a fine president. And that's what counts. The people decided change would be a positive, so I, for one, hope the positive ball gets rolling. Even though I am of the political opinion that it is supposed to be very hard to govern, it is sometimes a mere feeling that is the important first step. Yes, this day was historic, as is every Election Day when we get to experience, and participate in, Democracy in action.

I've never been prouder to be an American than I am today. When an African American can ascend to the position of "Leader of the Free World," anything is possible. Landmark day for American! His presidency will be the most scrutinized four years any president has ever experienced.

sorry I didn't answer this in my last post

McCain is going to win because first) there's not enough ballots for all voters and republicans will be the early birds and second) there's plenty garages in Florida...

oh, and another reason is that the local news (germany that is) goes nuts because of the election.

that nuts, 4 big channel don't do nothing but previews, reviews, specials and so on and so forth... cmon man, that's even more information than they give when we have elections here!

other than that, I still hope Paris wins ^^quote>

If I'm not mistaken, the majority of voting stations use electronic voting computers, not paper ballots.  Also, in the states that allow early voting, it should be noted that the majority of early voters (in the Southeast USA at least) were democrats.

Also, how does Germany going nuts contribute to the success of a candidate?3.gifquote>

It doesn't at all contribute to it. It's just that I don't get it why 4 big stations do nothing but special shows for weeks now and then and eventually a whole night of election reports (from 10pm/midnight until 8am this morning, times GMT+1). there's never been that much reports and stuff when we have elections here in germany. Ok, it's a historic moment that the most powerfull man in the world (right behind bill gates and hugh heffner that is) turns out the be not white-skinned for the first time ever, and looking at the results show me that it's a even a landslide victory to say the least, but seriously, the amount of news (even tho they didn't tell anything new all the time) in the last weeks and night is simply ... beyond any sane amount for a country outside the us.

But if as many people if not more voted 4-8 years ago as they are now, perhaps the hole wouldn't be so deep?31.gifquote>

got a point here. But I wonder why this happened at all. Was the show better this time? Did the candidates really motivate more people to vote this time or was it just to be part of something big, historic?

Or do people now really care more about politics as they did back in 00 and 04?

Nooo, I know, they wanted to keep another story like in 04 away from the world ^^

But what the hell do I know, only 16...damn I wish the driving and voting ages were the same.3.gifquote>
age doesn't say anything.

there's people in your age that are enormously active in politics, the community, whatever, and there's others that are even older that don't give a damn about anything like that...

Amen to that ILL Tonkso. I've waited 8 years for this, and finally I get to say it is great to be an American once again. I honestly never voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004. So I'm proud to say I never agreed.

But for once we can bring back some decency of ourselves, and hopefully work well with other nations on issues that affect us. I also hope to see the global economy getting back into shape.

And our nation will heal after the age of fear and ignorance.

His father was Kenyan, but he was born in Hawaii. Hawaii has been part of the US since 1959, Obama was born in 1961. Wiki is really helpful for when you need to get some quick facts in order not to speak a load of garbage. 21.gif

Congrats to Obama anyway... its awesome to see that he won by such a landslide (over 300 is impressive)!

His fathers' family is from kenya, that much is true. President Obama, however, was born in Hawaii. A state in the union.

Well I called it, I told my family Obama would hold onto Florida, he did not dissapoint.

Change we can finally believe in. the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama

That's hardly a reason to move to Canada, and it's hardly the type of thing to base your vote on.

First of all, even if he doesn't salute the flag... big deal. Does that make him a terrible terrible person? Hey, I don't say the pledge, does that make me a terrorist? No, really, I never say it. No point. I said it enough in elementary school, I'm pledged out already. Voting according the his level of patriotism is a narrow-minded thing to do. And the being born in Kenya thing... that can be easily debunked. And before you attack me.... My grandfather was one of the soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy, fought in North Africa, the Battle of the Bulge, Italy, took out a tank crew, took a grenade for his fellow troops, and captured a German Lieutenant, and survived through one of the largest wars in the last century, was a decorated soldier of the United States Military, and I'm proud of him. I support our troops, and I'm willing to give this country a chance, and put up with a lot of the problems that may plague it. And you know what, this election has improved the world view of America, and created a huge enthusiasm and voter turnout for the presidency of the United States, and made a lot of other people proud to be an American. What more can you ask for?

I'm sorry, but your reasoning for being against Obama is complete malarky, and is not a valid point. If you're going to support or be against a candidate, it should be for what they promise to do for the country, where they plan to take it, what they want to do for you... not based on rumors and a few, frankly, meaningless mannerisms.

I understand that sure, it's your opinion, but just because it is an opinion, doesn't mean it entirely right. Of course, that's just my logic.

Either way, I'm certainly prouder to be an American now than I was twelve hours ago.

That should count for something.

A huge congratulations to Mr. Obama. I have followed his career for quite a while, and am quite happy to see him reach this pinnacle. A truly inspiring rages to riches story has unfolded before our eyes.

I have yet to find a moment in my life where I have been more happy for my country than I am today.  I, among other fellow Americans, helped elect the first African American President of The United States.  I feel that I am now a part of this nation's history, that I have, in a way, left my mark.  We have overcome a lot in this election.  From people's own perceptions of who Obama is, to those made by the opposition.  We were able to dismiss those accusations, and see him for who he really is; a beacon of hope for not only this country, but for this world.  I have seen people here from the UK, Ireland, Spain, Japan, all cheering Obama's name in hopes that he will be victorious.  To the rest of the world, he is a sign of a restored harmony between the US and the rest of the world, previously broken by our actions over the past eight years.  I hope that this shows the rest of the world who we really are, and redefines us as a team player.  I hope that the rest of the world can learn to forget what our nation has done in the name of "freedom" in the past eight years, and consider us a team player now.  I hope that the rest of the world learns not to define us by the man that leads us, but by our people as a whole.  I hope that the world, will once again, see us as a part of it.

To those of you overseas, I would like to thank you for your unending support for Mr. Obama over the past couple years.  Your ideas and values have only strengthened mine, and allowed me to see outside of this country, and what we've been told is "American".  What is truly "American" is change.  What is truly "American" is hope for a better day.  America is not defined by defiance of the rest of the world, but rather, working with it.

Today begins the future.

GGOOOOOOOBBBAAAAAAMMMAAAAA!!!!!!

I'm so happy right now I could barely sleep last night. I'm truly glad to see the support of our friends overseas/to the north. In my time here at ST I've seen a lot of verbal attacks on Americans, which seems to have been aimed from the thought that we're all clones of the disaster that has been in office for the last 8 years. I really hope this shows that we're not like that, and that the anti-USA language is over.

I'm finally proud to live here again. I've seen that phrase repeated everywhere. That's the best indicator of what we were voting for. January 20th can't come fast enough!

There is hope.

Heard on the radio about the very diverse demographic who voted for Obama.

A.) He salutes the flag, it was an internet rumour that was circulating when the campaign first started, just like the muslim, arab, terrorist, and other assorted rumours.

B.) He produced a birth certificate, and it was verified by factcheck.org, but your Republican buddies were quick to make up some flim-flam trying to discredit factcheck.org as a biased source of information... Yeah right...  Because saying that Obama stretched the truth on many occasions is biased reporting... Please... >.>

Please be informed before you vote next time, dear.

I'm happy for the Americans that Obama got elected. He was by far the best choice for hard working, non-rich Americans, as well as the rest of the world in world-politics. Still I find it a fairly poor democracy when all you get to choose between is liberal-right (democrats) and conservative-right (republicans). No offence, but I thing the US should reconsider stating it's the most democratic country in the world, because it's obviously not.

Nothing against American people though! I made good friends over there! Congratulations!
