This is my first CJ, I've been lurking the forums for a bit and found some ideas, but my first entry was greatly inspired by the Defloyd International CJ, by bighaben. Thanks for the inspiration. The city is from sc4ever.com, the Maxisland region from Wren Weburg. The actual city is Downtown Weburg, I am just using it for the skyline. Thanks to him for this region.

The Name:

Mille Cieux is French, which means City of a Thousand Skies, due to the always clear days and due to the glass skyscrapers, it does make it look like a city of a thousand skies.

Flag:

231792831-L.jpg

The blue is the blue found in the UN, IAEA, ICAO and the Somalian/Kosovo flags. It represents the diversity of the city, the sky, and the fact that it is UN administered territory. The big thing in the middle is a fleur-de-lys, a common symbol for france and other french-influenced culture. This represents the french name and roots.

Some of the City:

Line (m02) the outer orbital metro line, with the brand new power plant in operation.

City Tower and Parc du Ciel (Sky Park)

231799038-M.jpg

Housing in a newest subdivision of the city.

Due to the overwhelming amount of migrants, workers, and businessmen who are helping to rebuild the city (more on that later) and the tons materiel for construction and aid are putting the already heavily damaged metro, rail and airports to overcapacity. Mille Cieux Government has started a program to build a state of the art intermodal terminal that can accmodate the next generation of high speed rail, metro systems, and the new super jumbo jets of today. One of the proposals, (proposal A) Involves demolishing the existing rail link and metro systems and some businesses. It will also require heavy leveling of terrain ,and realignment of metro and heavy rail tracks, the dismantling of an underused motorway, and involves remote stands near the runway and the intermodal terminal nearby, connected by a tram.

Red Zones are the buildings to be destroyed, The yellow boundary indicates the extent of the intermodal terminal, the pink indicates the tram system that connects to the remote stands/gates, which is outlined in blue.

The public is welcome to add/subtract ideas for this grand project. More proposals will be posted.

Thanks!

    thanks, first of all!

secondly, the journal starts out transport oriented, and over time it will change into how the city copes with rebuilding and other differences in the people and places.

    thanks again

Nice! It's like Quebec's flag, only with one much larger fleur-de-lys! This is a pretty good start. I'm interested in seeing how it looks after the restructuring. It seems a shame to lose such a neat-looking train station, though...

crazyyaya - thanks for the kind words!

bbfan02 - thanks for the comment about the flag

NMUSpidey - to be honest, i never thought about quebec's flag when making the MC flag. as for the train station, there is another proposal that preserves it.

    sebbyb07 - thanks!

    Update 1:

Another proposal has been sent to the provisional goverment, from the Frith Group. Proposal B(1) has nearly all of the elements of Proposal A, but the intermodal terminal area is slightly smaller, and this one includes the orbital road being extended. The major diffrence is being that the existing terminal will be actually moved onto the new site, as demolishing it has been met with some protest.

    232076755-L.jpg

And now for a little tour, mostly of the outer parts of the city.

    232076586-M.jpg

These city walls are the last defence of the city. These have saved the city many times, including recently.

    232076609-M.jpg

Another shot of very recent development of Mille Cieux. Also shown in the metro line and the ring road.

    232076743-M.jpg

The ring road, very new suburban development, and new self powered lights fitting in well with some redwoods that have passed so many tests.

    232076750-M.jpg

La Defense, the main centre of life in this city. Even though most of the city inside the walls were unscathed or rebuilt, most that have been damaged in the final battle have fallen into disrepair. Mille Cieux has a strict near-black out at 2200 hours, leaving only a few lobby lights, beacons, and some street lights on.

    232076731-M.jpg

Regardless of who ever wins their proposal for the new intermodal centre and runways, the UN backed construction team is already setting up in the space between the airport and the inner city.

Hope you enjoyed this brief update.

Great start and second update.  The city has lots of history around it that I'm dying to find out more about, and your plans look good, I can't wait to see all the construction to be finished.  I'll be watching this one.

    REPLIES:

edmonton_stinks: thanks! and i do agree with you on the roundabouts.

zelgadis: 3.gif, its quite common for that to happen. thanks for the kind words!

    nottheboss: thank you.

mayorbk: thanks! hope the proposal that was implemented doesn't disappoint.

bighaben: thanks for the watch! hope i dont dissapoint.

NMUSpidey: yep, i have been to the real one, and its a great station.

    suplado!: thanks!

    schulmanator: thank you!

The first two proposals have been rejected by the public and deemed too costly for its own good because it would have required very heavy leveling of high-rises and a complete transformation of roads in that area. Therefore, the people of the city came together and sought out a solution.

    232738249-M.jpg

The plan was to demolish a few city blocks near the airport, consisting of commerical and residential lots. Note the new avenues. In response with overwhelming protest on demolishing the old train station, they actually put the entire station on tracks and moved it a mile down the ring road to its present location.

    232734938-M.jpg

The T1 line that runs parallel to the ring road has been extended to its current terminus at Unity Station. It is now the most heavily used tram station in the city.

    232734620-M.jpg

The first terminal to be completed, Terminal One. This is built to accommodate the new spring of low-cost airlines, but now, until the rest of the airport is finished, most flights are handled here.

    232734350-M.jpg

Mille Cieux is one of the first airports in the world to implement a new public transportation concept, personal rapid transit, or personal automated transport. This is an extremely new operation, requiring the input of everyone who is involved in the project, from the passenger, to the steel worker to the janitor.

    To learn more:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_rapid_transit

    232734505-M.jpg

Terminal 2, which will house all other flights, under construction. The rest of the terminal is a narrow concourse that extends all the way to another building like this one, connected to a SkyRail station. However, building pace is at a snail's pace here because of the incidents at Defloyd International and elsewhere, more focus is going to rail travel, which is more environmentally sound, and has less problems. Note the access road between the SkyRail tracks and the Terminal.

    232734735-M.jpg

This is the new Tour des Mille Cieux, which will house the headquarters of several companies, from mom and pop operations to multi-national corporations. also, city hall is to be moved here. note the control tower, this is only for ground operations in the airport, the rest is to be controlled atop the Tour des Mille Cieux. Note the new slogan for the city, "Our World is Our Future." It can be interpreted several different ways, depending on the context.

Hope you have enjoyed this update!

I like the GLR and you execute is excellently (I myself have never been able to figure out that GLR). One thing I am confused about though is the picture of the city walls and the statement "These have saved the city many times, including recently" what happened recently?

suplado!: thanks! i "borrowed" some of your construction workers and modified them to do the work faster, while retaining quality. hope you dont mind! 4.gif

    jacquilina: thank you!

edmonton_stinks: thanks, and yes, PRT is just like a taxi, but kinda complicated when you first see it.

zelgadis: thanks! i went through so many crashes for that GLR, and its still growing.

bighaben: lol thanks! hope i dont disappoint.

projectadam: all of your dying questions about the history will be answered soon.

    NMUSpidey: thanks!

    4.

    The Finish Line

Well, they've did it, over 12 billion dollars and 7 years of hard work, the new airport and intermodal terminal is complete.

    233314841-M.jpg

Overview of Terminal 2, basically one big long arm with 6 contact gates and 2 remote stands. The SkyRail system has been extended, and the access road has been preserved to accommodate any thing that disables Skyrail.

    233314925-M.jpg

The new Intermodal terminal. Most of the activity is underground.

    233314860-M.jpg

However, there is one parcel of land in the airport that is yet to be developed. The public is divided on this issue, should it be a cargo space, more gates, or a general aviation hub, replacing the crude one by Terminal 1?

    BALLOT No: 0654114

DO NOT TAMPER, PUNISHABLE BY LAW

NE TRIFOUILLEZ PAS, PUNISSABLE PAR LOI

GEBEN SIE SICH NICHT AB, STRAFBAR DURCH GESETZ

Prop 34 - Cargo Terminal at MCIT

This terminal would provide the high-tech industry of Mille Cieux and give our economy a boost.

        (fill in one)

          [  ] Yes (Oui, Ja)

          [  ] No (Non, Nein)

Prop 35 - Airport Expansion at MCIT

This expansion would provide an extension to the low cost terminal. (Terminal 1)

        (fill in one)

          [  ] Yes (Oui, Ja)

          [  ] No (Non, Nein)

Prop 36 - General Aviation hub at MCIT.

This hub would be a replacement for the crude one by Terminal 1. This would be an attraction to many of the high wealth residents of Mille Cieux.

        (fill in one)

          [  ] Yes (Oui, Ja)

          [  ] No (Non, Nein)

    233314890-M.jpg

What's this? A high rise complex a kilometer down from the runway?

    233314946-M.jpg

The completed Tour des Mille Cieux. Up top is the ATC for Mille Cieux and the entire region. It also houses several embassies, the UN headquarters here, and several companies.

    And another ballot:

    Prop 37 - Congestion Charge

This would allow the installation of electronic toll gates to all road entrances within a 2000m radius of the Centre Roundabout. (picutred near the center) It also calls for the deployment of unmarked vans equipped with licence plate reading CCTV cameras. This would help reduce traffic near the roundabout and bring more users to the metro or bus systems.

         [  ] Yes (Oui, Ja)

         [  ] No (Non, Nein)

Well, that's it for now. I have finals this week. Thanks for reading!

Yes on 36, no on 37. Also, I suggest that if you replace the crude, Terminal 1 aviation hub, you could place a cargo terminal in its place.
