Sessquenna Update 22 - Cedarburg Interchange

Here is the Cedarburg Interchange of IR-260 and IR-89, northwest of the City of Cedarburg.  It is only one of six interchanges on IR-260.  The next one is four to six miles northwest in Arbordale with IR-85.  Update 24 will probably show the Arbordale Interchange.  I am really enjoying filling in the entire region and then to go back develop and expand the cities of Sessquenna County.

Nice interchange, I like the mixture of cloverleaves and directional ramps. Of interest to me is Bull Run Rd as nearby is Manassas National Battlefield which commemorates the Battle of Bull Run in the Civil War.

Wow, it's a very amazing region!!! You should have a lot of fun to lay out your road/rail network!

Hey! I'm a relative newcomer to this CJ, and I'm surprised I haven't discovered it until now, considering I'm a regular in Dan's CJ. Anyways, I really like your roadgeekery. Your interchanges are really nice, especially the Cedarburg one on the page before. What is that highway texture that is more realistic? Does it provide the same flexibility as the Maxis highway?

Sessquenna Update 23 - City of Cedarburg

Just southeast of the Cedarburg Interchange is the city after which it is named - Cedarburg.  It is a quaint little town on a hillside.  The main street and city hall are at the foot of the hill at the intersection of CTH V and STH 36.  St. Matthew's Church overlooks the town from just about the top of the hill.

Not sure what the next update will feature.  I am sporadically constructing areas around the edges of the Sessquenna Metro Area and implementing new parking lots, bus stops, and various other lots I have just downloaded. 44.gif

Nice town, I really like the church a lot as well as the lushness of all the trees.  I also like how I-260 appears to realistically cut through the landscape leaving stubs where roads used to be continuous with each other.

Great update. I agree with dan, great church!!!!

I love how it overlooks the town. The town seems like those towns you never remember passing through...

What a great CJ, I checked out the whole thread, the whole region looks very well thought out with a lot of realism in mind.

Very spacious interchanges and great work on the signs and roadnumbering system. The small towns look very realistic as well, with a balanced choice of buildings and density. I really like how you leave some stretches of forest, both large and small untouched, this gives especially the rural areas a natural look, as well as the region view.

And talking about region view, I mean, WOW! It looks like taken straight from google earth. Great job on having all the city tiles flow together in that amazing region view.

Another CJ to bookmark for me 4.gif

Thanks to dfnva for pointing me towards this CJ 2.gif

It looks awesome, I'm reading all the way through it, upto page 5 now, question though in this pic, where did you get...

    sc4question.jpg

the lot at the corner of the Ave. and Road? The one just above Sessquenna Territory with the brown roof and lots of parking. It looks like an authintic City, i'd love to live here honestly.

Cedarburg reminds me of many a small town you travel through on your way between Charlotte, NC and Myrtle Beach, SC... that is, if their downtowns were still active and not completely replaced by extreme '80s/'90s plaza-and-parking lot sprawl. For that matter, in the Carolinas, it's not impossible for a town the size of Cedarburg to have a mile-long or more stretch of shopping centers, motels, and gas centers attached to it. And it's the compactness I like about Cedarburg - it actually feels livable due to the close proximity of everything.

    Comment Responses

Thorinbur: Yes, SC4 has a lot to offer and Simtropolis and SC4Devotion have a ton of awesome mods, BATs, and extras made by community members that make the game far more realistic than the out of the box version, everything from Wall to wall buildings to giant box stores and strip malls.  Thanks for your first post!

bluemoose: I go through phases in my SimCity play.  I get bored with rural and want to do only urban and then I get frustrated and bored with just urban stuff so I go rural.  Not too bad in such a large region.  I was confused by your Cedarburg Interchange comment!  I love that church and have used it probably too many times within the region on top of hills. I actually have it sitting on top of a hill just north of Downtown Sessquenna.

Victor Valdes: The overview impressed me, too!  Turned out pretty good, though I still find many faults.

dfnva: Bull Run Rd, threw that in because I was reading a Civil War book for one of my upcoming classes and needed a road name.  I got some good ideas for different interchanges from the Cincinnati area which is of course the map I am using so I refer to satellite images of Cincinnati for ideas.  Yes with all my highways I am trying to make it appear that some of the roads and farms were there before others (especially before the freeways).

Mr. Beer: Yeah, it is an interesting region to lay out roads and especially rail will all the hills (Cincinnati).  There are some roads and rails that I regret laying now at this point and I shake my head wondering what I was thinking when I did!

Raysfan16: Glad you've visited Sessquenna.  The highway texture is just an asphalt texture from thorvin over the standard Maxis highways.

TmiguelT: I hope I've captured a little bit of the small town feeling.

Shilka: Thanks.  Glad to have a new follower.  It is difficult to just get the right flow of realism.  Sometimes it gets to the point of frustration.  Takes a lot of referals to real world satellite views to get the same kind of feel.

Simsamerica: That lot is a Pick 'N Save by bobbo662, though I can no longer find it on STEX along with many of his other lots that I use 15.gif

pickled_pig: Eventually many of these small towns, as sprawl overtakes my region, will have those big shopping strips, but right now they are still only farming communities.

ah, I have some of his and I searched everywhere and asked anyone I thought might know where the rest are because What I've seen of his that Is no longer up is AMAZING! I was really hoping to find his Hess, Giant and Walmart Supercenter (not the one on the LEX I have that already). Thanks anyway though.

Sessquenna Update 24 - Sessquenna River Road

This update covers some work I'm doing on the north bank of the Sessquenna River north of Sessquenna International Airport.  The work spans across Mount Mary, Beaufort, and Osseo.  Two Osseo interchanges were featured in an update a while back.  I mainly worked on pulling a railroad from Sessquenna Hills down to the riverside, so I had to wide down a gorge and make it nice and gradual, though one point I can really improve later on.  This update also pays tribute to Anduin Valley Revisted's style, though not the beauty or meticulousness (is that really a word?).

I will have an update again tomorrow featuring the Osseo Power Station in two mosaics.  I don't really know why I decided to divide up the updates, haha.  Hopefully Update 25 isn't the last for awhile, but that all depends on the amount of school work. 44.gif

I really like how this update shows how you can spend hours on finetuning roads without even adding a single inhabitant to your town.

BTW, I love those trees you added with that embankment, they look very lush and realistic. Are those ploppable or from some mod or something? I've been trying to find them for a while, but no luck so far. Do you remember their name or where to find them?
