Fastest MT testing in RH.

I got bored earlier today and start to mess around with the mass transit systems in RH. I wanted to find out which system is realy the fastest, commute time wise. I''m testing between Pass. rail, Monorail, El Train, Subway and Bus.

I will post screen shots and my final results after I gather some more info and do a few more tests. However, I will share my results so far and see what kind of feedback I get.

The testing stage: 20 titles, inline between a small fire station and a 3x3 Res. zone, which 3 houses sit on.

My results are kind of surprising abit. Bus was the slowest at around 35min. The El Train and Subway has the same average commute time(18min), which I figured it would be. Monorail was slighty faster then the El Train at around 16min. The one that surprised me was the Pass. rail average commute time. It was a 8min. trip. I always thought the monorail would be the fastest, quess I could be wrong.

Now, before I can continue my testing, I need to find out how many jobs, if any each MT station houses. I know the bus station houses one job, I''m not sure about the rest. Dose anyone have this info on hand?

This confirms what was said in another thread. Pass. rail is by far the most efficient transport system.

if you have the room yes...pass train is the best...but subways are the best for when you start running out of room...entrances are smaller and the rails run underground...if congestion is the promblem....I use the subways...though they are more expencive to run but are well worth the effort...1.gif

PS got to luv the bunny --->24.gif

You are right when you use subway. Since RH, more and more people use EL but I don't for three reasons :
1. EL takes up a lot of space
2. EL has a capacity of 2000. For subway it is 3000 : subway is more cost-efficient (I like this word. Looks scientific)
3.EL strangely create air pollution (Noise pollution would be more realistic)

what is pass train?

A passenger train that runs on surface rail in the game. It shares its tracks with freight trains.

Monorail SHOULD be the fastest, because it's got the highest travel speed of ANY kind of transit in the game.  To do a proper test to confirm or deny the speeds, you would have to modify the transit stations so NONE of them provide jobs.  As long as they provide jobs, you can't be 100% certain about the speeds.

Oh, and simmax, I don't know where you got the idea that El Trains only have 2000 capacity, but you're wrong.  MONORAILS only have 2000 capacity, but El Trains are 3000.  In fact, El Trains are identical to subways except they cost less per month per tile to maintain.  They are in fact significantly more cost-efficient than subways for this reason, and are second ONLY to ground rail in overall cost-effectiveness.

Actually the reason, through testing, you may think pass rail is quicker is because stations for that have parking.

Good point on the parking, how far is it from the houses to the stations?

Has anyone taken this a step further and tested the speeds over greater distances.  Try it with the tracks zig-zaging across the map covering several hundred tiles.  Perhaps the monorail will improve in performance as the number of tiles increases.  I'll try it tonight.

I've actually done a bit of ground work on a very similar experiment. I didn't compare the bus times, but did check all the different rail lines. Look for "MT rail lines" in this forum for what I've found so far. There may definately be additional steps you can try, but this could save you a little work! Good luck!

are there mods for MT stations with no jobs, or are you just saying one would have to create them to do an accurate test?
