Dusktrooper is going to get you back for that! 3.gif

The shows on Cartoon Network today aren't as good as they used to be. Adult Swim only has a few good shows such as Robot Chicken, but that's about it.

    Congrats Australia, btw.

Well, Naruto can be a great show if you get into it, but Cartoon Network didn't even make it...to be honest, that's the only reason I ever watch CN anymore, and they're like 3 years behind with the story. Just have a look at this...

IMHO, CN is the best example of what has gone terribly wrong with cartoons these days. Everything's either abstractly drawn in a twisted parody of Picasso, or anime. When anime looks more realistic than any other cartoon, things have gotten bad. It doesn't look to me like anything is handcrafted anymore, no real craft involved...just distorted lines and angles. A good early 50's Tom and Jerry puts the modern stuff to shame.

I know I sound like an old guy with the 'When I was a young'un' stuff'... just ranting a bit.

I do love Robot Chicken, though.

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

Two things I don't get in CN original shows:

1.)The kids are extremely short at about 10--maybe about 2 feet--then grow to 5 feet by 13 and

2.)Their heads are as big, if not bigger, than there bodies

Not to mention, the "movies" are only about 40 minutes long and have pointless plots.

Also, please don't bash anime! The artists in Japan spend lots of time on those drawings!

I hate the newer shows on Cartoon Network. The old shows were 100 times better. I totally agree with manticorefan. The artwork in the new shows are trashy and poorly-done. The characters are horrible (totally annoying) and the plots are terrible. Any Tom and Jerry episode is better than these worthless things.

Exactly, and some of the plots and characters are just horrible. There's one stupid show with a talking butt, and it annoys me everytime I flip through the channels and see it.

I do. There are still good things to watch on TV, like History and Discovery. Poorly-done kiddie shows just annoy me and people who spend their lives glued to that garbage annoy me even more.

Anyway about the drawing quality, let me just show you all some examples.

    EdEdEddy2.JPG

Ed, Edd n Eddy. Watching this show seriously makes your eyes hurt because the animation is so poorly done that the subjects shift around repeatedly.

    36F_fosters.jpg

Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Not as bad, but still not nearly as good as it could be.

    camplazlo_b.jpg

Camp Lazlo. Note the poorly drawn background.

    tom&jerry4.jpg

Tom and Jerry. I love the detailed, realistic background and the character features.

    Scooby-gang-1969.jpg

Scooby-Doo. Not as good as Tom and Jerry, IMO, but both are by the same studio (I think they are both Hanna-Barbera, not sure though). I love Scooby's face in this one.

The older shows are so much better. An epic struggle between a cat and mouse is both simpler and more entertaining than watching 3 dumb kids with the same name say stupid things and do stupid things (which would be Ed, Edd n Eddy).

    Anyway...

Right please tell me for the love of god and humanitity you are kidding me

While cartoon network is a whole lot better than Nikiscum quality of cartoons has sunk worse than the quality of (I wont say some US Presidents 3.gif ) of stuff from the $2 store

    BRING BACK THE CLASSICS

Long live Bugs Bunny, Elma Fudd, Daffy Duck, Road Runner and Wylie Cyoote and all over Warner Bros and Loony Toons that had Acme in it

They were violent yet the best, nothing better than seeing Wylie vs the Anvil (he alone kept the anvil factory going), Daffy Ducks beak being blown off with Fudds 12 Gauge Shotgun and Bugs Bunny pwning all

Also the only CGI toon in those days was Reboot and they were still showing reruns of Stingray, Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet which was violent enough

I remember Rug Rats as well back then and Pokemon had just started coming in

Yes sir, 80s too the mid 90s were the best for cartoons

none of this POLITICALLY CORRECT GARBAGE!

As for Adult Swim, some one fill me in, haven't got round to seeing it

pppffffffft who needs CN anyways its gone down the drains since Seth Green is primarily the only cartoon creator show on that channel.... heck it might as well be the SGTV anyways... I soo remember the Days when CN was dedicated to showing real classic cartoons.... Now most of the great cartoons are on BoomerRang.... Face it if you don't have SAT TV then your SOL.... I agree W/ Yoshi please don't dragg anime into this as it has nothing to do with CN lol... OK I'm done ranting now lol...................

I think CN is still okay and I think its getting better and better. I especially like the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy because it's like Spongebob. Any cartoons I like outside CN, I guess it's Spongebob. And if you guys are sad about the new Cartoon Network, you need a dose of HOUSE. 3.gif

Actually, this "Invaded" thing also involves Asia; but it doesn't really matter (to me) because the things that I watch on CN are mainly anime.

Awww, the heyday of 80s cartoons was when Gatchaman, Star Blazers, Robotech, Transformers, and Voltron came over to join G. I. Joe. I still remember all the kids running out of their houses in shock when big brother Roy Fokker, the ultra cool leader of Robotech's Skull Squadron, finally bought the farm. Of course, this was only after being first traumatized when Mark Venture of Star Blazers also got whacked, followed by the whacking of Sven in Voltron. To be the supportive big brother or trusted best friend or dutiful lost father in anime is a veritable sacrificial death sentence. Gosh, even Darth Vader croaked at about the same time...our childhood heroes would never be the same.

But, the Cartoon Network's older Adult Swim did bring me Our Scrappy Hero, Inuyasha. Uh oh, that means supportive best friend Miroku is doomed...

Thundercats was cool too, and Mysterious Cities of Gold was the best I remember from old Nickelodeon. Scooby-Doo Meets Sonny and Cher certainly fed into my post-Jaws shark phobia. And who hasn't sung Elmer Fudd's classic "Kill da Wabbit"?

Boomerang is much better than Cartoon Network. Give me Bugs Bunny and Scooby Doo over the lastest on CN anyday. CN had a few gems IMO like The Angry Beavers. My youngest son now watches Jetix because they have the Power Rangers. I can't believe they are still making more Power Rangers.

15 years from now people will be having the same discussion, comparing the cartoons of that time with the shows from now

Obviously, the new shows aren't any good to us, because for the most part we have outgrown the sort of plots they contain. Comparing them to older shows that you have nostalgia for with shows that you do not watch is not a fair comparison. Certainly there are children growing up now who enjoy these shows and later on when they become adults they will still remember them.

As for the art style, that to me is irrelevant. Change can be a good thing. If all cartoons still looked like the old Hanna-Barbara productions, that would be boring.

BTW, I like Foster's Home for Imaginary Freinds3.gif

Who can forget the Animaniacs? One of the last truly funny inventive cartoons before the Simpsons came along. CN could get my attention with that!

I liked Transformers and GI Joe, but I saw through Scooby Doo by the age of 8. I tried to like Robotech, but anime just irritates me and always has.

Ed Edd and Eddy was the only show I liked...

it was the last show to be hand drawn...or something..I belive mustly all new shows go through a computer or something...

I mean there was a reason Ed Edd and Eddy moved around alot..it was the hand drawn.../lack of a focused hand, but that also gave the show its classic look...

    no other show as good...

oh and Cow and Chicken ruled!

Why are you telling us this? Why would we want to know? And why are you typing withevery word starting with a capital. I dumped CN years ago when they started showing the worst shows ever. Scooby doo and Tom and Jerry were the best and so instead theese days you have theese lame excuses for good cartoons. I think thats just sad....
