Why does Joe Torre have to leave!?!?! But I think he made the right choice, if I were him I would've walked too.

And I disagree with you that you think Boston will win. I think the Rockies will win in 6. 4.gif

And I just about agree with you on all the awards too, unfortunately. The only guy on that team I really respect is Beckett, he is a great pitcher. Everyone else either has a huge ego or just annoys me completely. 3.gif

I would really, really like to see the Rockies win.

But, I think the Redsox will. I do like the Redsox a lot, though, so I will be able to simply sit back and enjoy this series.

This series is destiny, though...think about the headlines: "Rox and Sox on Fox"....it triple rhymes!

mikeaut-he left because he felt insulted by the offer or somthing, even though it was like 10 times every others managers. Actually, the red sox roster is always one of the most likable ones in the game. The yankees, they just have that feeling where there players are above everyone else, like you cant relate with Jeter and A-Rod and those guys, but the red sox, there whole roster is full of characters (course theres some mess-ups, like Julio lugo, who did the worst roster announcing ever for game 6). I mean, its really easy to root for a guy like papelbon, who comes out with spike hair, googles, and a cigar, and dumps a can of beer on the ALCS trophy, and then does the funniest dance routine to the song in my signature with youk and the bullpen. Now i'm just being a stupid red sox fan saying how much I love this team, but they are just so likeable. Then theres the bullpen, with that insane game 6-7 drum routine, manny being a 3 year old on marijuana, pedroia, baseballs wes welker, etc. etc. Imagine if we had kept millar what this team would be like?

MrCinatit-Rockies win would be a great story, but not if the sox are on the losing side. Also, bud selig is very happy right now, because Rox Sox is a perfect storyline, and will draw huge ratings, but who would watch cleveland and colorado?

    I'll give it a shot:

NL MVP - Matt Holliday of Colorado, by a hair over Prince Fielder.

NL Cy Young - Jake Peavy of San Diego. No question.

NL ROY - Ryan Braun of Milwaukee, quite a bit over Tulowitzki.

Comeback - I honestly have no idea. Josh Hamilton of Cincinnati might get it because it is a warm-fuzzy...but this is his first year in the majors. I am probably missing someone obvious.

    Woohoo! 13-1 Sox.

series is 1-0 sox. tonight we got Big Schill at fenway in october, so hopefully he will give as his 3rd quality start of the playoffs (game 2 cleveland being the only bad one). Josh Beckett, if the sox win, clinched the playoff MVP, 5 consecutive strikeouts to open the game! so far he's 4-0 postseason with a 1. somthing ERA.

Pedroia, the little engine that could, hit another shot, his 2cd consectutive game with an important home run. The meat of the order, youk, papi, manny, lowell, and....JD DREW??!! were on once again. As long as the red sox continue to get that kind of production from the top of the order, as well as a big hit or two from elsbury, pretty much the only good guy in the bottom 4, they should roll.

MrCinatit-i agree with most of yours, for the comeback, i dont know the exact name, but he plays for the reds and the wrote an ESPN article about him in the summer....o wait...josh hamilton 3.gif lol.

    Congratulations to the Redsox.

I do have to say, that was one of the worst post seasons I have seen - there was literally not one bit of drama. Yes, I know - Boston came back 3-1 against the Indians, but the last three games were of no contest.

Now for a long off season without baseball, and a football game to peak my interest once a week. Time to fire up MVP 2005, after playing some SimCity 4

It's been a pretty tough weekend for Cincinnati Reds fans.

The word "icon" is one which seems to be thrown around too easily, but it was a word which very aptly described Joe Nuxhall.

Many know Nuxhall as been the youngest man to play major league baseball, breaking in for one game in 1944 for a team in need of players after most other served in the war. He did well, until he realized he was about to face Stan Musual, then fell apart.

He would not appear in the majors again until 1952. He was a pretty good pitcher with the Reds for the most part until 1966 as a reliever and a spot starter. Starting in 1967, the already popular Nuxhall went into the broadcasting booth, joining the legendary Waite Hoyte. After Hoyte retired, he was briefly teamed with another legend, Al Michaels (whose professional career started as a Reds announcer), then again with another legend in Marty Brenneman.

Brenneman and Nuxhall were teamed with each other for almost 35 years. While Marty is more polished, Joe had a more home-spun style, a style which made him very popular with Reds fans.

Sure, he he was a homer (listening to him yell "Get out baseball! Get up!" during a home run is unforgettable).

He had a tendency to butcher names big time - he would trip over names like Mark Grudzielanek, but managed to chuckle at himself while doing so.

And, yes, he butchered the call sometimes.

But, he was a baseball fan. He loved the Reds, he loved the game of baseball, and he loved the players. I don't think there was one ballplayer out there who did not like Joe Nuxhall. Curt Schilling, who never played with the Reds, had this to say about Joe:

[Q[i’d like to first pass along our sincerest sympathy and condolences to the surviving members of the Nuxhall family. Mr Nuxhall was one of my favorite media personalities over the past 20 some years in baseball. An incredibly kind man with time for everyone.

His stories were ALL funny and you could always feel his passion and love for the game when you had a chance to sit down and talk with him, an honor I had many times. Sorry to see such a kind and wonderful man, someone who did nothing but good for the game, go. He’ll be missed.quote>

It's still pretty early for predictions - there is a lot of time for some moves to be made, for some clubs to improve, and other clubs to improve not so much.

I am hoping that the Reds' addition of Fransisco Cordova will help their terrible bullpen a lot - but we could still use a couple of more arms (though there are some youngsters who might be ready to make some noise).

Yea, I hope Ken Griffey Jr. actually plays some games instead of getting injured. It is just one injury after another for him.

Unfortunately, Junior is just getting older. He is still a very good hitter, but in the field, he is slowing down quite a bit. I have a bad feeling this will be his last year as a Red, and he will probably serve the rest of his career in the AL as a DH.

But, he is a future Hall-of-Famer, no doubt.

Speaking of the Hall-of-Fame, the list of those eligible next year was released yesterday, link here.

With all due respect to David Justice, but when he is one of the best of the new class, it is a pretty weak class. Justice was a very good player - but in no way is he HOF material. This will, however, help some guys who have been close the last few years. I would like to see Gossage, Rice, Dawson, Blyleven and Concepcion make it. Gossage and Rice probably have the best chance.

Meanwhile, it seem the Yankees and Twins are talking about a trade, involving Twins ace Johan Santana, link here.

I am kind of on the fence here - but I have a feeling this could be a pretty large step backwards for the Yankees if the trade goes through. Yes, that is right - I said backwards.

The reason is, the Yankees are going to have to give up a lot for Johan - and it will have to be very good, for-sure, young talent. Philip Hughes and Jaba Chamberlain have been mentioned - and I really do think they will have to part with both in order to get Santana, as well as a little bit more. The Yankees are going to have to realize again is that a great team is built on young talent - not a bunch of really good players. They have already put together a lot of teams with really good players in recent years, and while it has gotten them a lot of pennants, they have not won a ring since 2000. And as they have spent a ton of money on guys who are either nearing or over the hill (Abreu, Posada, Pettit, Rivera, A-Rod) and tied them up for many years - guaranteeing those players will be with the team way after their productivity drops - I feel they are continuing in a wrong direction. A-Rod will be 43 at the end of his contract. Posada will be 40. Rivera will be 42. A player's skills begin to go down at 30 - players who perform consistently at the age of 40 are very far and few between...and very apt to injury.

well i'd hope the yankees would learn from their past mistakes. They havent won since 2000 because they've been selling all there talent for older players. Santana is on the decline, while Joba and Hughes are entering what should be great careers.

I only care that one of those players gets in the hall. Jim Rice. He deserves it, but hes been snubbed for as long as I can remember.

bbfan-its too early to predict that. Either way, i think the sox take it again. We have the same team, only this time we will have added experience for our young guys (elsbury, pedroia, buchholz, lester), will be getting late season boosts again from good farm players like masterson, moss, etc., and will finally have a healthy ortiz and manny.

Plus, i expect Dice-k and JD Drew to have good 2cd years, like beckett, after struggling in year 1 (like beckett). Julio Lugo...well....umm...every team needs one bad guy, right?
