Well, here's another bullied kid talking big or psychotic terrorist and mass murderer to be that was caught in time...take your pick. Mommy DID buy the kid an assault weapon and he DID have several homemade bombs in his house along with a stash of guns and knives.

Another Columbine-to-be that was stopped in time by our law enforcement heroes? Let the Simtropolean Jury decide...

Police Find Weapons Cache at Teen's Home

By MARYCLAIRE DALE, Associated Press Writer

Thu Oct 11, 7:38 PM

PHILADELPHIA - A home-schooled teenager who felt bullied amassed a cache of guns, knives and explosive devices and tried to recruit another boy for a possible school attack, authorities said Thursday.

The 14-year-old was taken into custody after police searched his bedroom in a Philadelphia suburb Wednesday evening. He had talked about mounting a Columbine-type attack at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, authorities said.

The weapons included a 9 mm assault rifle that the teenager's mother had recently bought for him, Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce L. Castor Jr. said. Prosecutors are reviewing her actions.

Police also found about 30 air-powered guns, swords, knives, a bomb-making book, videos of the 1999 Columbine attack in Colorado and violence-filled notebooks, Castor said. The weapons were plainly visible in the boy's bedroom, Castor said.

Also discovered were seven explosive devices Castor described as homemade grenades: plastic containers filled with BBs to which gunpowder could be added. Authorities said one grenade was operable and the others had been in the process of being assembled.

The search did not turn up any ammunition for the most dangerous firearm in the bunch, the assault rifle.

"I do not think an attack was imminent and I am not certain that an attack was going to occur at all," Castor said at a news conference. "It could have simply been big talking by a kid who thought that he was bullied previously and he was going to exact his revenge."

The teen previously attended middle school in the district but had been taught at home for more than a year after voluntarily leaving school, Castor said.

Plymouth Township police searched the home after getting a tip Wednesday from a high school student and his father.

The teen was charged as a juvenile with solicitation to commit terror and other counts and was being held at a youth facility. He was due in court for an initial appearance Friday morning.

A call to the county Public Defender's Office, which was representing the youth, rang unanswered after business hours.

Castor declined to name the suspect's parents and said he did not think they had retained lawyers.

"They are now under investigation by us, concerning whether there's any complicity in putting the weapon in this boy's hands," Castor said.

The arrest came the same day a 14-year-old in Ohio opened fire at his Cleveland high school, wounding four before killing himself.

Classes were held as usual Thursday at the Pennsylvania high school.

What strikes me as funny is that the kid didn't even GO to this school! (Or any other, for that matter) He was being home-schooled (by his pistol, er...assault weapon packing Mama!) and had left school over a year previously. Then again, maybe somebody got the facts wrong and he was actually gonna mount an attack on a church or a post office.

47.gif How [Content] Stupid do you have to be to buy your 14 year old son an assault rifle, especially when he has a massive gun pile like that and is planning revenge!? These people have some problems...

They are going to arrest the Mom as well right?

A very stupid one.  And she was home schooling him.  Almost seems like she was setting him up for Minor Celebrity Status by turning him into a "School Shooter".

So they found some Airsoft gear, dumb notes and one actual weapon?

What a non-article.

Alot of the stuff they found is rather serious....

damn I mean more then 5 grenades were being made...he had the one gun...and the assault rifle was pretty much ready...I bet he was waiting for 4/20....

while this makes homeschool look bad...I support home schooling alot more then normal schooling...

I wonder where this kid tried to recruit people...if he were smart he'd found emos....

Sorry, but I don't see the connection, mabey my school is just different. This will sound ironic, but the emos at my school are some of the happiest people I know.

flame1396: they just do whatever they want for people's protection.

screamingman12: some are just pretending to be happy but they are burning like hell inside.

I think freedom of speech should be somehow "limited" more. I mean kids watch too much violence on tv and play violent games.

On the other side, parents should talk to their about school, their problems etc. And give them advices instead of fire arms. Just my .2 cents.

Interesting, my sister said at her high school someone had a list of people he wanted to kill and supposedely brought a gun to school today. This is a sign that the world needs to give kids like these help because it's what they need!

So you'd rather has a bloody massarce? People can't have it both ways.

Schools and law enforcement have a responsibility.

I understand what people are saying... the police can take things too far sometimes, but I personally think they were doing their job. I'd rather have a crazed psycho in jail than have a bunch of mothers and fathers with their hearts broken forever after their innocent children were killed in cold blood.

'fraid I gotta agree with Micah this time. Better to over react than not to react at all. Considering current events, this kid (and his godforsaken mom) were askin for it. Maybe it's just cause I'm a parent but I don't feel that the LAW overreacted when they found an unhappy victim of bullies with a room full of weapons and "vengeance literature" and decided that it might be a good idea to maybe, oh I dunno, ARREST HIM.

What's causing it, if not our media-driven culture? Maybe it's not the media so much as it is people who don't seem to be bothered by "fake" hitlists or innocent instructions on how to make bombs. Yeah, I'm sure it was actually a natural reaction to loving parents that lead by an example of honesty and decency and who bring their child up with solid limitations and rules infused with nurturing care. That's always aiming for disaster!

In my opinion, plop the squirt down in front of the most violent movie you can find...that's sure to make him realize it isn't acceptable, and while you're at it, buy him weapons. Then he can defend himself against all those mean bullies who (gasp) make him feel all sad inside. *tear*

What is wrong with my generation?!? It's the fact that a lot of my generation is being raised by the media, pop culture, and their friends, because their parents are morons...or are in jail...or somewhere (we're not sure, he just left. Not a penny in child support, and it's a shame because money's gonna solve everything).

On a different note, it's a shame Communism didn't work. Too bad people are greedy [No masked words please] Marc isn't it. We should just cut to the chase and make sure everyone's raised the same and (ah, go for broke) let's genetically engineer all our kids so everyone's perfectly equal.

Then we could have a whole society of nutcases like this "victim" and his Mom.

I think I need to relax on the sarcasm a bit... It just annoys me that there are people who make excuses for this sort of stuff, or blame the police for the maggots they have to deal with (ooh, the Police States of America -- run and hide), or who draw everyone's attention to bomb-making websites.

P.S. I'm not judging anyone personally, because I realize I can only see what people type. Just heading off a backlash. I'm just expressing my irritation at some of the comments. Plus, I find it a nice exercise in formulating opinions and gauging myself.

So sorry to double-post, but I would just like to thank the garbage --articles and especially the blogs -- on "Fort Liberty" for inspiring my compulsive need to write in order to vent...so I composed this gentle ballad:

Critical Correction

My fingers shake, my ears both pound.

This vile screen swims 'round and 'round

Inside my mind, a wild beast

That ravages the mental feast.

My stomach knots, my clenched jaw sears.

To watch the top, the best of peers

Dismantle any moral sways

And toss them in the blazing haze.

My throat constricts, my eyes burn hot.

This fury in me I knew not,

Which gnaws and bites my self restrain

And tempts a blast of highbrow pain

To overload and loose its chains;

At last--AT LAST reap vengeful gains.

What scum surrounds, what filthy souls

Corrupt by imps with evil goals.

I'm saturated, swamped with it,

And no quick bath will rid the spit

Of vermin's words that, uttered out

For all the world, like sewage spout.

Do they think? Have they minds?

They toss Humanity's dry-picked rinds

To feed the poor they will not see,

Content to take and spew and pee.

They arm their young, and send them off;

Like demon spawn they weeze and cough

Their message to the thoughtless scamps

That give them soapcrates for their rants.

They have no wall to check their voice,

For by our laws they claim their choice

Is safe from scorn, well think again!!!

I THIS day promise to begin

The bloody struggle of moral fire

That has been beaten back by dire

And heartless rogues that aim to kill

This country's meaning with their ill

Interpretations of our laws.

They choose (surprised?) to clamp their jaws

Around the throat of struggling faith

And shake the bodied soul to wraith.

Take into account that I suppose I would qualify as a pacifist and certainly a gentle person, but that site really made me angry... and more importantly, it made me think about the world and some of the problems that people refuse to acknowledge (and actually defend, by contorting the purpose of our constitutional amendments, for example).

Interesting theory, ShortStraw, about the mother setting him up as a "school shooter". Bizarre as it may sound, I can see that happening. (Love your avitar, BTW!)

Regarding the emos, InsaneChild, I read something in a related artice, though I can't remember if it was this guy or the one in Cleveland (so many lately it's hard to keep up) where the kid was a "Goth dresser". Wore the piercings, standard black trenchcoat, etc.

Your sarcasm is well taken, Iamihop. While the U.S. is/is becoming a police state, it also has become a place where the "victim mentality" is running rampant. Who exactly IS this lid? Some effing loser who was whining about being bullied and wanted to send an "I'll show them" message? Or some real psycho who actively planned to wipe out as many peers, bullies and imagined predators as possible? With the amount of munitions he had amassed, it sounds like he might have been planning this since he was evicted from the educational system over a year prior. (Though why he picked THIS school is still a mystery to me.) Maybe Mama helped steer him to his ultimate goals, who knows? I'm sure we'll be hearing more about her involvement. And I dunno, EasyBakes. Can they arrest her? After all, this IS a free country protected by the Second Ammendment. Unless she knew of his criminal intent or knew he was a serious psycho (Parents, do you know where who your children are?), there's probably nothing illegal about buying little junior a deadly weapon. After all, there COULD be some potential terrorists that just moved in down the block! (He has a beard and I could've sworn I saw him wearing a turban!)

With all the new high-tech information available now via the internet, Coolotter, it's good to see that someone still relies on that old standby, The Anarchist's Cookbook! Brings back memories from MY high school days. (Hmmm...but then again, I didn't go out and blow up any schools.)

Anybody want to lay odds on the probability of seeing yet another potential school killer by the end of the week?

EDIT: Do you have a link for the Fort Liberty site, Iamihop? I'd like to check out whatever inspired that above piece. That was intense.

fort liberty is the site where the military's improvised munitions handbook is found, I posted it up top.

remember, this handbook is like, really old, 1969, something like, if the russians took over 90% of the USA, how to fight back. they have a page on user responsibility and safety. this handbook is for purely information uses.

    An update:

    Teen Admits Stockpiling Weapons

    By MARYCLAIRE DALE, AP

    NORRISTOWN, Pa. —

A 14-year-old boy accused of plotting a Columbine-style attack on a suburban Philadelphia high school admitted in court Friday that he illegally stockpiled weapons.

Dillon Cossey, 14, admitted to three crimes _ criminal solicitation, risking a catastrophe and possession of an instrument of crime _ in Montgomery County juvenile court.

Cossey, a home-schooled student from Plymouth Township, was arrested earlier this month. He tried to recruit another boy in the plan, which included chaining shut the doors at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce L. Castor Jr. said Friday.

He had amassed a stockpile of weapons, including a 9 mm semiautomatic rifle, about 30 air-powered guns modeled to look like higher-powered weapons, swords, knives, a bomb-making book, videos of the 1999 Columbine high school attack in Colorado and violence-filled notebooks, authorities said.

The boy will be placed in juvenile custody. The longest he can remain there is until his 21st birthday.

Cossey will receive regular evaluations by the Judge Paul Tressler.

"I'm going to make it clear to you and your parents, if you get to the point where you're ready to get home, but they're not worthy of having you, I'll send you somewhere else" such as to a relative or foster home, Tressler told Cossey.

Authorities accused Cossey's mother, Michele, of helping him build his weapons cache.

Michele Cossey, 46, is charged with illegally buying her son a .22-caliber handgun, a .22-caliber rifle and a 9 mm semiautomatic rifle with a laser scope.

Cossey took the stand during Friday's hearing and mostly answered yes and no questions.

Cossey admitted telling a friend that he wanted to stage an attack similar to the 1999 assault on Columbine High School in Colorado, telling him, "The world would be better off without bullies," according to Castor.

The teen previously attended middle school in the district but had been taught at home for more than a year after voluntarily leaving school.

The boy's attorney, J. David Farrell, read from a letter that Cossey wrote earlier this week.

"First off, I would like to apologize for the trouble I caused," the letter said. "I realize now that I was not thinking correctly. I want everyone to know that what was in my room does not change what was in my heart."

Castor said Cossey described to police being bullied only a few times, but Farrell believes it was more frequent.

"My investigation has really disclosed that he has been the s

Do ya think maybe, just maybe, if he put all of that energy into exercise and a healthy nutritional plan that things might have been different as far as him being "bullied" and his outlook on life? And maybe, if his mother bought him a few cases of Ultra Slim Fast instead of guns that she would've been better caring for his mental and physical health?

Another aspect of this case involves home schooling. Seems there is a lot more of it in the past decade than ever before. A kid (around the D.C. area, anyway) can be pulled out of school and home schooled for just about any reason. Religion seems to be the number one excuse, er, reason for most of the home schooling. Granted, the public school systems in many places leave a lot to be desired. But I wonder how these home schooled kids are going to fare when they enter adulthood. Besides the lack of formal education, what about the kid's social growth? How well is he/she going to develop the usual social skills that come with the high school environment? Is the kid going to be able to be as comfortable or as adept at social intercourse given that he/she is more isolated during these developmental years? And what kind of an education does the kid really get? I've seen parents that home school their kids who aren't the brightest bulbs on the tree. I don't know what kind of standards or what criteria are used for giving the kid a diploma at the end of the home schooling. I would hope that it would at least be something along the lines of being able to pass a G.E.D. (Does anybody know? I'd be very interested in the answer to this.) I dunno...home schooling has it's place in cases where a kid may have been injured of has some other medical condition that would make going to a regular school difficult. But for a parent to just pull a kid out of school because they think they can do a better job seems kind of arbitrary and may actually be doing the kid a diservice by depriving him/her of not only a formal education but also the social activities and interactions that go along with the whole school atmosphere. (Do they have home school football leagues? Soccer teams? Proms?) I wonder what effect the mother's decision to home school this kid played in his actions. I also wonder what the home school effect on teens would be in general. What do you folks think?

I'd also be interested in hearing from those of you who live outside of the U.S. Do they have home schooling options in your countries? If so, how does it work and in what cases can it be an option?

Yeah, we got homeschooling in the UK, but we rarely use the option (since Parents usually have something better to do... like earning a living)... if you don't want your kids to mingle with the evil 'proletariant' then you send them to Private Schools, but they cost money usually.
