One of the corners near the top floors has one side lit, but the other isn't. Does this building have diagonal walls? If not, then two sides of a corner on any floor should be lit at once, for realism.

it looks smashing... the only problem I see with it is that your reflections are brighter than the active light. And they really shouldn't be. It is important to be quite precise here. I'm not speaking of "bright colors" but bright overall reflections. "Bright", when used with colors, typically mean saturated. I, however see problem not with saturation, but the value, intensity, well exactly brightness of teh reflections. Remember reflected light is ALWAYS much less powerful than active direct one.

Another oddity/mistake that is actually made more evident by your super bright reflections is that these magically only limited to the glass of unlit rooms and completely avoid lit glass. That is despite the fact that some of those are pretty deem. Remember to give you selfilluminated mats same reflective properties as you give to the glass one. It is very essential to make it all bind together and not look like some collage.

Apart from that it really look great and quite "finished" product!

PS...

well ther is one issue withyour day view. The problem/mistake is betraid by teh polished bronze ball you've decided to place on roof... It appeads that you don't have MR Physical sky as your background map. So the ball reflects dull grey ...

Thanks. This is how it was looking before I exported it. Unfortunately the export process messed up the environmental reflections a little - stretched out the image responsible for them in a very different way to the preview - but I can live with that. It'll be on the STEX very soon.

Excellent work on this model and the night lights are fabulous. I like the way the light shines on the trees.44.gif

I've decided to take a short break from my usual Asian stuff and do some American BAT's instead. Firstly, I'm going to finish this next BAT which I'm about to show. After that, I'll be devoting all my available BATing time to the UN project. After that, I can get back to my HK work.

Here's something I've had in the works for a while - Emerald Plaza in San Diego, California. Just in the modelling phase right now, but that's almost done. Then I crack on with materials. And before you say... "Cockatoo! The floors are all different heights, are you losing your head??!" ...make sure you check out the real world building.

    My attempt so far...

MG: From an architectural point of view, I don't think this buildings gets much love, but I like it... so that's good enough. That last photo I showed is a little odd, nearly every other photo of the building (even from angles where it reflects the ground) shows the glass as a blue colour, not black. I'm going to try to get the glass to look something like this:

But the real reason I'm doing this building... the nightlights... oh yeah... 25.gif

Anyway... it's been a real challenge - working in hexagons and all - but I think the model is done. I'll get some materials on it soon and hopefully it'll be on the STEX within a few weeks.

Btw, Ferrariguy1000, did you mean that you tried to make this building, or just tried SketchUp in general. If you meant this building, show me what you got. 4.gif

I'm so glad to hear this. I'm really looking forward for this project to kick off. But no more off topic!

Very interesting choice  on this BAT. One can see why you chose it as challenging. Great progress btw.

I honestly have no idea how you do it. Have you sold your soul to the devil of BAT? I struggle with mere semi detached houses, and i see this... I dont think i really need to say keep it up, but please, do.

I never knew this building existed... and, erm.. well, It's interesting 9.gif

Your model looks good so far though!   Is the green tint on that night photo from the lights or is the glass tinted green... or is it just the photo?  I would have thought that with a cheesy name like Emerald Plaza there would be some green glass to make it sparkle like the jewel it's named for!

That roof terrace should look great reflected in the glass of the faceted walls.

EDIT: Ah, here it is with green-looking windows...

^ Just to emphasise the cheesiness, I've replaced the broadleaf's with palms! (also helps with polycount too.) As far as I'm aware, there's no 'emerald' glass anywhere on the outside of the building. The light on the outside deck is coming from green lighting - the building only really becomes 'emerald' at night.

Anyway, day textures are almost done.

ok now that is starting to look fabulous, my preferences are still swayed for a faux black glass but it looks alot more pallateable now than it did even in the last update. plus on the positive side, i have a slight fetish for hexagonal towers.
