Simtropolis is not going to die!! So many new developments in the community, it will spur growth of the site! And old-time members are coming back, take The Dalai Llama for example, who has been remade a moderator on the site. No one worry! 3.gifquote>

That be me!  I was one of many who came back amidst the whole SCS thing... now SCS doesn't interest me one bit, but CU is intriguing and I missed my favorite hangout, the off-topic forum.

Simtropolis is in great shape now... the SimReaper is nowhere in sight. 41.gif

Replies: This thread has slowed down!

Jason: Yes, but I came back for maybe a last-ditch survival chance...

Orlando: But there have only been 1713 people logged in at one time. Should we really count ghost users, people who come to download stuff only, people who post once and leave?

Hot Dogs: Maybe it's on a roll today, but on stale bread tomorrow! 4.gif Anyways, the STEX does have some good stuff buried in it...

This is not just a "moan and groan" thread. This is a "let's get Simtropolis back on top thread". Simtropolis today has very few constantly updated, new ideas that aren't on SC4D. I wrote of ST's strengths and how they can expand upon that. Also, I have a good memory of what ST is, and was, so don't go making accusations. If you lock it, and treat it as a "moan and groan" thread, then I might just leave permanently and possibly do great things someday. Another potential talent lost by the "community", just like SCC. So go ahead, lock this, ban me, you just won't see me anymore. Thanks for keeping an "open" mind.quote>

If you think ST is declining, do something--get involved: start a CJ, learn how to BAT. Don't go starting this "Oh, I'm going to leave" crap. It really doesn't help things one bit and makes you look more like a hypocrite (ST is declining, so now I'll leave too).

The best way anyone can "liven" up the community is to get involved. Support other people's projects, make one of your own, do something--anything--to get involved. That's my best advice.

I'm going to sound like a corny self-help book here, but the change must first occur within YOU!

At one time, that is fantastic. If 1713 folks browsing the forums at one time is considered unhealthy, I think your expectations are a little high.

I must agree. The only reason I still download from the STEX are the new NDEX works...and if that moved to SC4D like everything else has, SimTrop is stuck, with no way out.

I remember the day when something bad popped up on the STEX and BSC got in a riot, which probably threw them out of SimTrop's court and into one they made into SC4D.

SR (and others):  The Reaper is a whimsical character that appears in The Sims II (and maybe the original) when a Sim or Sim pet dies.  The idea of a Sim Reaper showing up whenever someone announces they are leaving either Simtropolis, one of the other fansites, or quitting Sim City as a whole rather cracks me up!17.gif

    Responses, responses...it's like I'm running a CJ! 17.gif

SpecialEddie: First of all, I can't make a CJ...I run a Mac. If I make a BATted CJ, my game will run slower than a 1200 baud modem. And if I used my Compaq, it will take forever to transfer pics. And yes, I am going to make a BAT...I'm expecting pictures.

SimRabbit: That's true. I still need good pictures and a lot of skill.

beebs: Yes, it is a lot. And to think, that was before the whole SCS calamity.

Tracker: NDEX (or, the new NDEX) is a good spot in Simtropolis. Also, what was that day? Could you describe?

It might be mentioning that I might leave Simtropolis, the community, but not the STEX. It's still got kevdan's stuff. What would suburbia be without fast food restaurants? I pretty much left the Off-Topic forum, based on some immature members* and political nutjobs* hanging out there. That's why I hang with the real SC4 peoples.

    Just a question:

If you're threatening now to leave Simtropolis, the community, then how are you adding to the purpose of this thread? According to you, this thread is a "let's get Simtropolis back on top thread". If you want Simtropolis on the top, and you're leaving, how is that goal going to be accomplished?

Also, those "nutjobs" you speak of are real "SC4 peoples." Hence they're on Simtropolis, so they're interested in the game somehow. Some people are more dominant in the Off-Topic section of the site rather than the SC4 section, but we all share the same interest here, and that is Sim City 4. And as long as all of us share the same interest, and people still show interest in the game, Simtropolis & Sim City 4 will live forever!

Just as a matter of interest, I have not interest in the STEX to speak of.  If the STEX is the only reason you come here, you are missing a lot of very good conversations.

Anyone who doesn't look around has truly got a set of blinders on.  I find the site very dynamic, interesting, and at times hilarious.  Living in the Past really is living after the present.  This kind of thread has become b-o-r-i-n-g

Let me get this straight: you're tired of ST, you only visit for the STEX, and you're making a Shakespeare drama out of leaving. Well, in that case, why not start your own forum specifically dedicated to SC4, nothing else, and make it as colorful and exciting as a Dr. Seuss book. If you want to leave, leave. No one is forcing you here other than your own curiousity of what has happened here in your brief absence. I mean, when I joined, I just wanted to use the STEX. Slowly, I became more active in the forums and now I spend a lot of time conversing with people. Honestly, it's more fun than the STEX because the forums don't take up hard drive space. I guess I'll say later dude.

This seems a very strange assertion to me.  I just took a peek at your profile and saw your computer.  My Mac is quite a bit older than yours and I've got a 50+ page CJ and a 2+ gigabyte plugin folder.  Is it a speed demon?  Nope, but SC4 runs reasonably well.

OK, I could argue that "my" G5 is actually shared with my father, and thus runs a bit slower than a stock G5. I've looked around the forums, and it just seems to have gotten a whole lot duller than what I remember it. All the threads seem the same. (note: these are exaggerations)

SimCity 4 Discussion: "I'm a newbie here, and I need help with my transit system. Please help."

    SCS Discussion: "New screenshots"

CU: I have no interest in CU whatsoever.

    City-Building: "Rate One Image"

Rush Hour Expansion: "I'm a newbie here, and I need help with my transit system. Please help."

Bugs & Technical Issues: "WHERE BE MY NIGHTLIGHTZ?"

Architecture & Planning: "DUBAI IS AMAZING"

City Journals: A mess of spam and buried stuff. Hard to find anything there.

The Transit Networks board is abandoned, The Sims 2 is...Sims 2, and the Off-Topic board is where unfunny/immature/

You know, I've been here since 3.0, too. I never understood WHY there was a split between the sites, but I do remember the BSC wars. I sided with the "everyone else" because BSC seemed to dismiss everyone who wasn't them as inferior. I give all BATers a lot of credit, especially the amazing things coming out now. I put something on the STEX, a dinky lighthouse that took me a month to make. BATting is hard!

    Living,

Being that you are at the ripe old age of 13, has it been mentioned yet that you lack experience and exposure too many things in life, such as the natural progression of sites such as this? This is not a knock, but a pretty obvious fact.

People do get older too and real life takes over. They go off to College, get married, get jobs, lose interest in petty things(like video games).......etc. At 13 I can see how you view the things you do, but you have to understand at some point video games take a back seat. It has happened me, and unless you become a 40 year old virgin living in your parents basement, it will happen to you.

I also agree with Blokey a little. This site has sorta shifted into a ultra PC kinder-care over the past few years IMO. Too much is censored even in adult topics. Don't have the adult topics then if your going to have threads moderated with Ned Flanders(some mods) at the helm. Waaay to much insulting and unnecessary censoring on this site. I think this has been a enormous turnoff for the little older crowd. The cutesy verbiage does me want to vomit to be honest. After a while you open a thread full of exchanged pleasantries rather than meat and potatoes of what the thread/topic is about. Or someone has a god awful CJ(you know it, I know it, they should know it) and you see comments like "Great job!!!!!!4.gif4.gif4.gif", it just seems like such an empty almost condescending pleasantry IMO. It just sesm like the truth or any thing resembling negative is automaitcally censored and swatted down. I understand you hav ekids on here, but for pete's sake IMo this is one of the major problems in our society...overprotecting youth. OMG if they are exposed to a little truth/reality. This site sorta reminds me of the overprotective soccer mom now. It wasn't as much at one time.

As far as content goes, I think the site is fine, and will get stronger with SCS and CU. I think living you just lack experience and are overreacting. Maybe too much time of your hands too, which you should embrace at your age with things not Simcity.

This may be your exaggeration, but frankly, I find it insulting--people put a lot of work and effort into those CJs and just dismissing them as "spam" and "buried stuff" is quite arrogant of you.

There's been a lot of great new journals lately and if you think there's nothing to find there, you're not trying hard enough or just making silly assumptions (I'm going for the latter).
