    Well, if it's not England or Scotland, and Manchester is "very close" (why the hell did you guess that? We're looking for the province, not the city), that would imply that it's Wales.

    Yes, it is!

    Heres the next one. If you want to guess the city, you may but you must also say the name of the country and state/provence(if applicable) its in.

    Guessing the city is all well and good, but it's not a requirement. Meaning, if it's anywhere in England, once someone says "city x, England" they get it right and the round is over regardless of whether or not it's actually in city x.  If you like, you may say what city it was in when you post the next picture. But once the proper province/state is guessed (or, if it's not US, UK, Canada, or Australia, just the proper country) you may not hold off on moving on and wait for someone to guess the city.

    Host the game according to the rules or I'll find someone else to host it. If you're not sure of something, check the first post. If you're still not sure, PMing me about it is always an option.

    Since you're new to this, I'll let it slide this time. Next time I won't be so lenient.

    Manchester is not in a state...but I see why you got confused.

    For clarification for our confused or uninformed members. The United Kingdom is made up of 4 countries. Scotland, Wales England and Northern Ireland.

    UK - Scotland, Wales England and Northern Ireland

    Great Britain - Scotland, Wales and England

    British Isles - Scotland, Wales England, Northern Ireland and Ireland

    Hope that clears things up...

    Okay, you're just adding more confusion now. The UK is a country. Subdivisions of it cannot also be countries. The de facto term is generally "province", hence why I used it.

    Also, your lack of commas is disappointing. What exactly is "Wales England"?

    Try this instead:

    Country: The United Kingdom (UK)

    Four Provinces:

    1) England

    2) Scotland

    3) Wales

    4) Northern Ireland

    There. That's better.

    I'm afraid your incorrect Duke.

    Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England are not provinces. They are Constituent Countries. Each has their own capital city, government and are sometimes referred to as the 'home nations.

    You are confusing the generalisation of Northern Ireland which many term as a province and applying it to all the nations of the UK. That generalisation of Northern Ireland is also incorrect as it is a constituent country of the United Kingdom. The term province was given to Northern Ireland after its formation in 1921 and to recognise its special status and unique autonomy within the United Kingdom as it had its own Parliament, Senate and indeed a Prime Minster.

    Now that's better 4.gif

    Random guess: Illinois...somewhere around Saint Looy. (I am reasonably sure that it's in america because the line on the left is yellow and the one on the right is white with a dashed white line in between)

    Okay, look, I'm not the one doing the confusing here. I'm intentionally putting it in simple terms people can understand and you're getting caught up on the technicalities and giving an overly complicated explanation.

    Besides, when speaking of the world in general, it's important to be consistent with terminology. The UK has a single parliament and a single prime minister. Thus, by standard definition, it is a "country" in that it is a sovereign nation. If different words are used over there, so be it. The common person would not think of Scotaland or Wales as "countries", they'd think of them as part of the UK.

    ....and don't people from the UK always get pissed whenever someone refers to it as "England" instead of "Britain" or "the UK"? If you call England a country you only give people reason to keep doing that. 21.gif

    For the sake of this game:

    -Country means a sovereign nation (or a dependency of one) {example: France}

    -State means one of the 50 US states {example: Florida}

    -Province means a similar division of any other Country {example: Alberta}

    -County means a further subdivision of a State or Province {example: Clear Creek county, CO}

    -City means a single locality with no further subdivisions that have their own separate governments {example: Berlin, Germany}

    Okay?

    Its not difficult to understand and I'm certainly not having the United Kingdom status 'dumbed down' for those less informed.

    Yes we do get annoyed with they state England and refer to the entire UK but that is due to their utter ignorance. I'm not going to complicate things with describing the nature of the make-up of the UK its a long and complicated history. Suffice to say all four regions are countries in their own right whether you agree it conforms to your 'definition' or not. It is clearly defined that all four regions are countries, nothing more nothing less.

    So Northern Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland can be called countries, becuase they are. If you don't like that fact then that's not my problem. The term country for those four areas is legal.

    To prevent your further misunderstanding Duke. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constituent_Countries

    Didn't say it was. But it is more complicated than it needs to be. I'm applying the "keep it simple, stupid" principle here. And I'm not saying that what you're saying is wrong, what I'm saying is that for the sake of this game (those are the important qualifying words), we are going to use the given definitions for the given terms and no others.

    It makes more sense to a universal definition to everywhere in the world as opposed to using whatever definition is used locally in the place in question. This is for the sake of organization and keeping things neat and consistent, not for the sake of watering down the history of the UK (or any other place). Because it's simpler and easier to just say "X means Y" than to have to say "X means Y in locations A and B, but it means Z in location C, it means F in location R, it means asdjf in location @¶ph», it means $gvkh%!~ in location wubbawubbawoowoowoo, and it means threesir in location fiveisrightout."

    And really, referring to Scotland and Italy by the same term is just sloppy since they are not on the same political level. For one thing, Italy is a member of the UN, while Scotland in an of itself is not- though the UK as a whole is.

    I'm certainly not having the United Kingdom status 'dumbed down' for those less informed.quote>

    Hey, this is my game, not your game. I will listen to suggestions and constructive criticism, but ultimately what I say goes.

    Now then, we've diverted from the game long enough. No more discussion of this topic. As of the following horizontal line, the subject is closed.

    Back to the game: India?
