Name one highway in North America that does something like that. Go on.

If you're having trouble, it's because there isn't one. Not too many highway get into the arctic, and none of those that do don't make it into the lower 48 states. Hell, none of them even reach the border, s the "well, it's got different numbers, but this highway is continuous with that highway so they're really the same highway" argument won't help, either.

I'll also point out that the Pan-American highway branches out in Mexico and reaches the US border in a few places, but it arguably never enters the US or Canada. Why? Well, neither of those countries have put up any signs for it or even defined a route for it. There are several paths it could take through the lower 48 and Canada, the only thing that's really clear cut is that it would have to use the Alaska Highway for lack of an alternate route. Still not signed, though.

Now then, still nothing! 19 states left. Okay, now it's easier to list what remains than what's out:

    Alabama

    Arkansas

    Arizona

    Florida

    Georgia

    Louisiana

    Maryland

    Massachusetts

    Mississippi

    Nevada

    New Mexico

    New Jersey

    New York

    North Carolina

    Pennsylvania

    South Carolina

    Tennessee

    Wisconsin

    Wyoming

    It's one of those!

LOL, I was just being hypothetical, in theory, one can exist.  All I was saying is that intercontinental  doesn't  have to mean just east/west.

-Oh and the Pan-American highway does have routes that are "unoffical" throughout the USA and Canada, eventually heading back into the USA in Alaska.

Getting back to the game, I have now lost it.  I have no idea where this is so its now just a guessing game for me.

    -How about Louisiana?

Wow, considering it was identified as US from the very beginning, that took an awfully long time...

    Anyway, next:

Anyway, time for the giveaway hint: This country's capital city has a 2004 census population of 772,873; and a recent estimate of 1,070,200.
