Everybody hates meh...

I've played CS4 for years now, but this is the first time something like this happens to me:

for some reason, my mayor rating is steadily falling, but I have no idea, why

all six other ratings are at max (or almost), so I have no explanation, why everybody hates me. Health and education are fine and my criminality is low... only thing is that the city (~150.000) demandad an airport, but it hasn't changed, since I gave it to them...

Help meh plz 4.gif

I don't want to be hated

Welcome to ST!

Mayor rating is strange sometimes.  Citizens seem to "forget" how good they have it and need to be reminded.  The little ingrates.  Anyway traffic, commute time, and pollution are the hardest to handle.  Building water treatment plants helps water pollution while building and promoting Mass transit can help decrease air pollution and traffic noise.  If your budget can handle it reduce taxes a bit (everyone loves money).  Building parks, landmarks and reward buildings have a profound effect on your approval rating.

Good luck!  I hope I helped you out!

This has happened to me on several occasions, but I usually attribute it to useing radical modds. If you use cheats, your probably getting the same thing.

I often find it uncureable, though dumping god mode trees over your whole city is a temporary (1 sim year or so) fix. The only thing that I have found to actually work is the "Buy your mayor ratings" ordinance in the radical ordinance modd.

Rofl ,im realy sorry if your being serious , but thats funny , you know if the rating gets to low they will start to riot.

Are you sure you havent downloaded something , there are a couple of items out there that intentionaly cause this effect . Post a pic of your city maybe we can see clues in that .

Did you download any militarty lots. Because i had the same problem whhen i used PEG's naval bases and plopped them all on one city. My rating went so far in the red that riots became a daily norm in the city. Can't see what they're complaining about tough >_>

Well, thanks for your replies... 4.gif

Gridlock, what kind of downloads do you mean? I haven't added too many plugins since my last bigger cities and I'm not using military stuff or something like it.

    More info on my city:

    Year 24

    Population 155.504

Rating -60 (from 100 to -60 in ~4years, but seems to stay at -60 now)

Travel time took a hit to 12h (but only 2 years ago), now decreasing (~10h now)

    IQ 170

    Life expectation 80 years

    Pollution (both water+air) ~60

    Waste no problem

    Police works perfectly

(edit) Ow, and I forgot: I'm using some finance-plugin (which is actually way too strong), meaning my taxes are ~15-20% (for poor & dirty industry 3.gif), 0% for middle-class, 5% for rich and 0% for middle and high class commerce, office and high-tech industry

But still: Using the map, the whole town shows red when having a look on the Mayor rating

    What the hell...

    Requested pic:

Downtown to the lower right side, Industry starts at upper right side, Residents in between. As you can see on the right side, there's still open space, which is about 1/3 of the whole land mass

    Shocking update:

I'm just randomly testing and after adding kinda all missing bonus buildings (from Country Club to Zoo to Statues) as well as their requested airport, my rating is rising again... but around -45 (cheers, 15pts better...) it's stagnating agayn...

    <whistles> -60 rating .

That is the lowest ive ever seen ,you should be getting lots of riots  , ive no idea , it shouldnt happen, i can take a guess.

I play rush hour , with just nam mod , and very rarely lower my tax rates to below 8.5 % , 5% in my largest cities .

The finance pluggin your using ? . If they look realy unhappy but no riots , something isnt right .

Well the riot mod, and things like sg sleaze commercial pack can have negative effect on mayor rating , but they are meant to do.

It looks like a nice city , so all things you mentioned being in place and 0% tax , they should love you to pieces , maybe they are just an ungrateful bunch.

Sorry i cant help you ,ive never experienced it to this extreme before.

What does it look like in your mayor rating data view? That's (usually) handy for finding what patches are driving your *average* rating down, but it's often overlooked. All of the rewards with a mayor rating requirement are based on the average mayor rating, but in fact the mayor rating varies all over the city. Check the data view to see where it's good or bad.

If it's just blanketed bad over the whole city, that's likely a bug. Either a bad download or your game, itself, is corrupted. That, or you truly are a horrible, horrible mayor. 3.gif

    Again, thanks for your replies...

What I did by now is copying the city (the file) and just keep on playing the city a bit...

Things haven't changed too well and for making it easier for you to see my problem (and figure out its reasons 2.gif), I made a jpg out of some of the graphs... I hope it helps^^

    Voilá: (warning: German version ahead^^)

(in case you don't see what it is: 1st is the 6 different ratings pollution, health, security, traffic, education, land...price(?); 2nd is mayor rating in the city, 3rd is population by groups and 4th is mayor rating, last 2 graphs over last 10ys)

Adding god mode trees, parks, and other aura buildings will probably do the trick. And be sure not to plant any Buisiness Deals buildings in your city, except for maybe the Federal Prison (that's the only one in my city).

I actually already filled up all open space that's left with God Mode Trees and I have quite a lot of parks (I think, some examples below). And there's no Business Deals at all

Thanks for your try, but I don't think that's the problem 15.gif

Btw, I just keep on playing the city atm (after having made a copy 2.gif), the rating has fallen to about -70 and stays there. But let's have a look what kind of impact that rating had on my city. Hmm, let's see... my Downtown has grown nicely... population up by 30% in last 4ys...

Well, I'm using Ordinance now and my ratings indeed increase... so whatever >_>

pre-sending-edit: lololol... my rating doesn't get better than -40 and I bet it will deacreas again soon...

I'd still know what my problem is/was though

Pic of some of my parks (in between many buildings theres also quite alot, so this isn't all):

    Thats the reason. 4.gif

Your either going to have to do what I do, and cheat for mayor ratings via the radical ordinance mod, or restart the city without the money cheat.

Both just can't be the reason for my problem^^

I am using that money-plugin for quite a while now and it never was a problem... and in that time I built up 4 cities with 150.000++ ppl with nice mayor rating

And as I just wrote, with Radical Ordinance my rating increases to an incredible -40, then it stays there (atm)

Just keep on trying, we will find the reason some time!!! 2.gif

Bonus: A combined pic of the region with the 4 150.000++-cities... plus some industry in between... (the original pic is standard-screenshot-quality-png... equals some 46,8MB^^)

I think its the money/tax cheat/mod you talked about earlier. That's really the only thing that stands out... you could just piss off the citizens so they'll appreciate the life they had...

And where's this riot mod I've heard about? I've scoured STEX and I haven't found it...

Good luck, mate. Any updates on the city?

I stopped playing it right after the rating went down to about -70 and kept falling down slowly...

Still, I really doubt that the tax/moneh/whatevah-mod is the problem... I am playing the region in the picture above atm and its four large size cities with 460k/250k/240k/150k citizens... no problem there and I started all of them with the tax/moneh/whatevah-mod as well

Also, I started another new city (about 110k in like 5-10ys, thanks to Ordinance >_&gt2.gif and don't have rating problems there either...

Must be some bug in the city-file in the very city I have problems with... No other explanation to me

Hmm.. try this for me. Use the god mode cheat (hold crtl+shifr+alt and click on god mode) and cover your entire city with trees. Over all the buildings, ect.

If I'm right, your mayor ratings should shoot up temporarily. If they don't, its back to square 1. 3.gif

I already tried that, but the rating only went up by like 10-20 pts and went down again pretty soon.

Well, as I said, as sad as it is, I "forgot" this city and I'm playing my old region again... I already thought it was lost (problems with mods after reinstalling), but now it's working again... and thanks to Ordinance, the pop has doubled since I've been playing again^^

The money mod shouldn't be the problem. The high taxes only applies to the industries and they don't have a say in mayor approval. Only the residents can disapprove of the mayor. Have you ever use the microphone tool to listen to what the resident's concerns are?

I had a similiar problem with my city, although not as severe. I have parts of the city that are constantly in red regardless of what I put in, and in the other parts they live in Happyville. I put in a lot of landmark buildings, and it slowly brought my rating from 20 back to 80 or so. But I also realized that if the economy is good (meaning the demands for each type is high,) my mayor rating goes up.

what about the commute you sait it was 10 hours or was it 10 minutes?

The taxes arn't the problem, in one of my cities all the industry and low welth res are at 20% and my rating is 100.

oh well.. i've got the same prob here.. all my other cities i hav a rating above 100 (127 in one), and i was proceeding the same way for this city... the thing i see same in our ptoblems is tht they request an airport, and also i believe commercial demand is very high... could that be the reason?? more commercial zoning required?

my rating also went the same way... from 100 to -60 in abt 3 to 4 years... i restarted the city after makin a backup.. and that dint help one tiny bit...

As a side question (sorry Yucan, but I don't think its worth it to start a whole new thread), what is mayor rating good for? What's the point? If it doesn't really matter then I don't think you need to worry too much about it, although your situation is a bit odd. Then again something like adding a new airport might just push the mayor rating the other way
