Sorry to make another thread about the burj but it apparently today (21/7/07) it passed the height of the Tapei 101 and has become the world's tallest building.

And it's not even done yet 9.gif

Hehe... Not Yet! Not until it surpasses the CN Tower @ 553.33 meters! The 101's only 509 meters tall!

And the Burj wont count until its finished! Thats when it "officially" receives its title! Til' then, the CN Tower will continue to be the tallest on the planet! 3.gif

Exactly! God even though the CN tower won't be the tallest anymore, I still love it!!!!!!!!!!

The CN doesn't really count. It's not a 'building' it's a 'tower'. Loose terms, but you get my point.

Like Wacko said CN tower isn't a building but a tower but it still stands as the tallest structure though3.gif In the end the Burj Dubai will surpass it anyway which is quite crazy43.gif

Since the 'Sears Tower' counts and other buildings called towers count, let's put it this way...CN Tower is only a Comm Tower with a touristy restaurant inside. That's why it doesn't count. 3.gif lol

Maybe still the tallest building, impressive, I know, but the CN (<3) and many various radio/TV towers still are taller.  But still this is pretty cool!  9.gif

I realy dislike the Burj Dubai. That's why I'm glad that buildings such as the Las Vegas Crown Chicago Spire and Freedom Tower along with Rincon Hill are being built. Hopefully we'll have a new face while Dubai cheats its way along. Besides, the Burj still hasn't passed the height of that 2,000 foot radio tower in North Dakota! 3.gif

The building will be completed in June 2009. But sometime in the fall of 2008, it will pass the once proud Warsaw Radio Mast, which stood at 2,150 ft, before it collapsed.

The CN Tower is not the tallest structure.

The KVLY-TV Mast is...in Fargo North Dakota

The CN Tower is the tallest free-standing structure in the world... TV/Radio masts don't count because they're supported by wires, and regular buildings don't count because they use other supports to keep from collapsing.

Okay... Since Everyone is having disputes over which is taller than the other..

    Here are the facts:

Tallest structure: KVLY-TV mast, USA, @ 628.8 meters. (supported by many. MANY wires.)

Tallest freestanding structure: Petronius Oil Platform, Gulf of Mexico, @ 610 meters. (97% of the structure is underwater)

Tallest freestanding structure ON LAND: CN Tower, Canada, @ 553.3 meters.

Tallest building: Taipei 101, Taiwan, @ 509.2 meters. (unofficially surpassed by the Burj Dubai as of July 21st, 2007. The Burj Dubai, when completed, is "expected" to have a hight of over 800 meters, which then would become the world's tallest structure as well.)

That should settle this debate for now (I hope) 3.gif

haljacky: remember that even for tallest building there are 4 categories. Taipei 101 holds the highest position in 3 categories and Sears Tower holds the highest position in one. Of course, Burj Dubai, when completed will surpass everything in height.

Newsflash:  As of August 2nd, 2007, the Burj Dubai has reached about 521.7 meters in height, climbing at an outstanding rate for such a structure

Here is a little diagram I made showing where it is in size to the CN Tower:

    img523/42/tskylineeemediumdv3.jpg

This is history in the making!

EDIT:  Ironically, the CN Tower will still have the highest observation deck on earth even when the Burj Dubai is completed (as of now, a higher observation deck may be kept a secret like the building's height).  I guess the top floors are reserved for special businesses and rich people.

Some people dislike the Burj Dubai because it is undeserving to be built in the Middle East in the middle of nowhere, and there isn't enough demand and all that, but I don't mind - as long as I like it. Just let Dubai do what they want, they're in their own world.

Besides I have family in Dubai and I hope to visit again when the Burj is completed.9.gif

Center of India Tower is going to be second tallest. Burj Dubai is around 800m and India Tower is 677. Its an awesomely good looking tower though, and think about how many jobs it will provide to the booming nation.

I researched online about the Center of India Tower, and it is only a vision. According to Wikipedia.org, it would have been completed this year.

this is how I see it..... Burj Dubai is not the tallest on the planet, yet! Sure CN Tower is a tower an blah blah blah all that good stuff, but when it is completed it will surpass anything has been built on the entire planet, so, considering its not complete yet, i say, NAYY!
