I don't agree with that jimbojones... Dubai really has beautiful scenic area's!! And there are so many to come 2.gif

The are making an oasis in the desert, and that is really spectacular..

The palm island will be lovely, and the bussines bay will be brilliant! And of course they want to set records, 'cause only then you get noticed!

If you visit Dubai in about 10years, it's going to be the best thing you'll ever see 4.gif

KINGDOM OF SAVOY

COMING BACK, HOPEFULLY SOON?

well i looked at the pictures posted by skyliner22 and do you know what: i'm shocked. if they build all of those buildings, dubai will be the most beautifull city on earth. but in all that plan, there are only two building that make my jaw falls. it's those two buildong that looks like a giant quartz crystalline brush. they are very impresive.

ps. sorry for my bad english

oh and one more thing.

i admire the government of the United Arab Emirates and Dubai. they know that only good they have is oil. but they oil resources will end in the nearly 20 - 40 years, and when it does they will have nothing to offer to the rest of the world except a lot of sand (which is practically useless because of it mechanical features). so they decided to transorm the City of Dubai into the commercial and touristic capital of the world or at least of the Middle East. now that is a vision look to the future. personally i only regret that the governments of the western civilization countries doesn't do the same thing. thats sad

Some of you people are just hating on this city, if it was in Europe or North America many would be giving praise. 50 years ago people would have said that about Vegas but look at that city now. As for being in the desert where do you think 25 million people live in the American South West live LA, SanDiego, Pheniox, and Vegas. now would you go visit?

Exactly what I was thinking even though I live in England. I think all the Dubai projects are brilliant.

well, they have the money from the oil and that stuff is running out; so, tourism is the perfect solution...but what about when the oil literally runs out; imagine what will happen to all the economies..i wonder what source of energy will provide those tourist attractions with power? Anyway, they have done amazing work there and all those new ideas are extreme...

But what happens in 15 years when their economy collapses and we have massive empty structures standing there rotting.

5 years of planning a building and deciding if the cities economy can afford to have these structures is smart.

The National Geographic has an article about Dubai in an older issue and most of the people there are under the poverty level anyway.

Why are they building this tall structures when the economy can't support them now anyway.

So I'm just looking forward to seeing pictures of Dubai in 15 years falling apart and basically abandoned.

The problem with these "Super cities" , especially in the Middle East is that those regions don't have anything to offer the world except Oil. And when that's gone, what are they going to do, try to export sand?

I'm sorry, I just have a strong hatred for the stupidity of Dubai.

They aren't planning and that's what's going to get them in trouble.

Dubai's an awesome city.

Some of discovery channel's documentary on Dubai projects are awesome.

It has some of the most advanced engineering and architecture in the world.

(Not the mention the Burj Dubai is already taller than Taipei 101.)

The city itself, was running out of its main export, so it had to find a way to make money - tourism. It's created a whole new world of some of the most beautiful and extravagant projects Anywhere!

Any city as magnificent as Dubai deserves a good regard.

Whatever the envy and cirtisism that meets the boom in Dubai these days, it's the most exciting place right now when it come to architecture in my opinion.

What a copycat. The Seattle Space Needle and Taipai 101 are being replicated; and no doubt others are too. With architects being so ambitious with other buildings, they need to be more original, all around.

Looks like some people have lots of money to burn. They must be hiring high profile architects and engineers to make these buildings come to fruition. I wish NA can build something that modern and cutting edge, but then traditionalists would hate to see something like Dancing Towers in the suburbs or even downtown.

Now why on earth would towers need to dance? I think Dubai is going a bit over board with the twisty, pointy towers, I like that lighthouse one though! And the Iris Tower.. uhh looks like giant hamburger bun thingy.. EWW

Patriots_1228: So if they built some of these buildings in Norway, they would be cool? Dude, Norway is filthy rich because of oil too, well and gas. Same goes to England, they make big bucks out of oil too... and canada, and not to forget the USA...

anyway back to topic;

I think some of those designs look awsome, and some misplaced. Anyway, they would all look spectacular in RL!

take care,

I didn't check the posts before I posted them. I guess this subject just kinda makes my blood boil.

I'll keep my mouth mum from now on.

This building looks really amazing. (even though it's pretty ordinary, it's still very pretty.)

I like the DAMAC Heights building as well. It's pretty cool.

Lighthouse Tower, and Empire Island Tower are also amazing.

Again, sorry about earlier. 8.gif

I think Dubai is just plain awsome! Sure it has it's imperfections, such as being in the Middle-East, and having an average temp. of over 100 degrees. But I think the city is a shining example of what capitalism and hi-tech engineering can do (they basically no taxes).

To those who say that the amazing projects won't ever be built: Look at what they've already done with the Palm Jumeirah!

I love Dubai and the modern architecture.  I wish there were more cities in the world like it.

so what if Dubai is 'stealing other designs , America stole the middle easts idea of building alot of building close together called cities. I think Dubai's big projects are awsome, sure the immigrant workers get horrible working conditions but as i understand, the US does the same with Mexicans...
