It's Pyongyang...when they first envisioned the city...it was supposed to be a great utopia...but of course, Kim Jong is not a communist...more of a dictator...(I would know)...so he made the working class (yes, there is a class system, since it is not communist) poor...poor enough so many can't afford cars...because of few private business...there are possibly no taxis...except government ones....

therefore...the streets are almost abandoned...

and you're right...that is the victory arch...the monument signifying the "liberation" of Korea from the American "imperialists"

    Lhasa

There is Patala palace in the shot - that is too easy!

    PS

I was surprised to see shot of Moscow in this thread. Technically Moscow is in Europe, but of course as a capitol of biggest country in Asia as well I guess it can be put here. Also I wasn’t too surprised to hear people say Beijing. In many ways two cities are quite similar. Imperial past and perspective are very clear in each, Plus tons of other details so much that sometimes if you remove texts and people you could really get confused where you are! Many decades of “communism” did it. But funnily enough even current construction is also going along similar lines with huge expanses of new age commiblocks piercing the sky! New series of “typical” houses that were approved by city gov. will be 45 storey high. I never really saw anywhere such an en mass construction like in Russia and China. Not individual houses but rather areas that would constitute a normal size town in other countries are built at once. Well there is Dubai, of course, but Dubai is tinny by the standards of Beijing or Moscow. But of course that picture shown is of a relative downtown Moscow – it is so densely built up that only “dot” construction is still possible.

I agree with you yoshikoroyimara, although I'm leaning more towards Russia. Where in Russia I have absolutely no idea.

Funny how people just drop statements like "it seems like communist country" and so on. But rarely go into explaining why! I think it should a rule that you support any claims you make with some reasoning!

I'm pretty sure that this is Taipei Taiwan, China. And if camera would have been paned just about 20o to the left you would see none else but Taipei 101. So, how about communism, eh?

Hey...I'm just saying that because it does look like a communist country...many apartment buildings pop out of nowhere...many similarly designed buildings next to each other...I could only think of South Korea (besides Taiwan) that isn't a communist country that would have this style...

...yes I would have to admit...though...that it is Taipei...

Hmm just a thought, to make it more exciting; whoever posts first can have a picture and have people guess and only once it is answered the next person can post one; first come first serve basis. Im too busy and seems like my tireless efforts are overpower by city knowing genius! So i hang it up and let the public be the host! I will guesss every now and then

EDIT: oh yea that was Ulaan Bataar, Monglolia!
