No... no it's not. As any environmentalist will haughtily point out when you mention the winter we had, weather is not climate.

On another note, any word on where exactly that ridiculously busy hurricane season is that all these climate wizards were breathlessly insisting we would have this year? ...or, for that matter, last year?

Wow. Maybe the models are...wrong? 2.gifquote>

In regard to the 2007 Hurricane season... it technically is ALREADY above average... for this time of the year.  On average there is ONE storm every TWO years in the month of June, and this year we've had two. On top of that fact, June and July are notoriously inactive with the "action" not coming until late August and peaking in mid September.

Finally, a third note, the "above" average isn't really predicted to be that far above average.  The UK Metoffice started issuing hurricane forecasts this year and actually predicts a slightly below average year.

Not that any of this matters cause it only takes one hurricane to screw everything up.

2007 is an El Nino year so that affects the Pacific region, so I guess that could be to blame for some strange weather

haha two storms so far. First one was SUB-tropical storm that didnt even hit the land and the second would just barely classify as a severe storm in most of the U.S. considering how the severe thunderstorm classification level is 58 mph sustained winds.

Saying that the hurricane season is already above average isn't really all that accurate. Those storms can barely be considered tropical depressions.

Back to the topic. Today up here in idaho it got 102 in the direct sunlight. Its terrible.

look, after reading some posts I think I should point something out.

Just because you have got a heat wave now, doesn't mean it is going to get hotter and hotter. We had a heat wave here in Norway for two weeks in June, and some areas of Norway had 39C/102F (Oslo had almost a stable 95F for a week).

Now it is so cold (It has been raining for weeks and mostly temp is around 65F-73F), we all wish we could have that weather back.

All I am saying is, don't go crying over a little heat, cause constant rain and sucky weather is worse... 2.gif

take care,

Eh, the northeastern U.S. hasn't been that bad, really. It's been about 90-95 here in my neck of the woods.

Now Canadians might remember the heat in 2001... now that was a heat wave.

Central Texas has been a rain forest for the past month. Daily rainstorms were getting pretty dangerous. Maybe now I can get my tan workin'.

The first tropical storm was sub-tropical. It only met 1 criteria to be named and there was actually a large debate on whether to name the storm or not. The decision to name the storm was made for political reasons as part of the infighting in NOAA that eventually led to the replacement of the NHC director. It hasn't been that bad so far in Massachusetts, only in the low 90's, but very humid. Dew points are been tropical like in the low 70's. Looks like the weekend will dry out before more hot humid weather next week. I've been out west in 115 degree temps, it's hot, but there is no humidity. I'll take 115 and 20 degree dew point over 95 degrees and 72 degree dew point anyday.

Still, there were a few days in August last year where it broke 100.... but that was August. It's only July 10 now.... so normally that'd mean the worst of the baking is yet to come. 6.gif

I know up by my house (In Stamford, CT, not that far from NYC) in the woods there are these crazy 2-3 feet tall weeds that pop up all over the place in April-May every year. Very green, and with small white flowers on top. Then, come August, they all die, lose their leaves, and go brown.

See, the reason August tends to be the hottest month around here is not only because then it's had all summer to warm up, but because it's generally drier, so not as much rain to cool things off.[/q

July is the hottest month on average in the nrotheast. In NYC the warmest month is July, the average high is 85 from July 17th to July 28th before it begins to fall. The alltime high for NYC was 106 in July. 19 of 31 record highs for July dates are over 100, compared to only 10 in August.

I just hope no one starts jumping onto their Global Warming milk crate because it's hot in the summer.

No, I'll jump on the Global Warming "milk crate" because we are getting record-high temperatures. The past decade has seen the hottest weather since temperatures were officially recorded. Don't worry, though. It's all a hoax.

By the way, the milk has spoiled.

i find it extremely interesting the way the weather has been in Texas. Global warming models predicted most ofthe southwest would suffer from increased temperatures, while Texas would enjoy a few years of cooler, wetter climate before joining the rest of the U.S in the frying pan.

Hmm... Those predictions seem to be very true right now.

We're having an unusual stretch of 30 C here in Edmonton. It's usually ten months of winter and two months of crappy ice around these parts, so pardon me if that doesn't sound too harsh, but I'm cookin'!

My philosophy on weather: Cold is better because you can always put more layers on. But when it's hot, you can't take off your skin.

I live in Southern California, and as ironic as it sounds, I love rain, I love cold.

Minnesota here. We had a few 90°+ days last week but it has been cool and sunny since then. We generally get the opposite weather of the coasts, it will probably get wicked hot here when it cools down elsewhere. Maybe it will rain a little when it stops in Texas, we need it badly.

I was working on a mere technicality, but the point still sticks... even if it was sub tropical and the second was weak, its more than the average which is.... 1 storm every two years.   Just because these storms were not intense, it doesn't mean we aren't above average saying June and July storms are notoriously weak to begin with.

Heat Wave? I feel nothing, its more usual on and off warm periods and then the fog air conditions the area. Although California in general is in somekind of drought, as opposed to last year where we had nearly a month of continuous rain!

Here in Atlanta, GA, it ain't so bad. We are in a serious drought, though, but right now some showers are moving in the area bringing the temps down abit (mostly in the 80's) Not sure if I should bring this up, but, the West Coast (let's say California to washington's coast) doesn't ever see hurricanes, right? As far as my 13 years living on Planet Earth, I never saw one strike there.

Actually, heat is not better for your health. Of all weather related disasters, the single largest killer on Earth is heat. Most people do not realize the highest death tolls occur in heat waves with very relatively few dying in winter.  The heat wave of 2003 in Europe is just one example. Deaths in general are not good for the economy due to the strain that can be put on emergency services, tourism, energy services, and agriculture.

Yeah, I’m with confused04 on extreme heat is not a good thing for health. Heatwaves can kill many people, most are the elderly. In the ‘95 Chicago heatwave 793 people died. More than 3,000 people died from a heatwave in Paris in 2003. Last year in California 163 people and tens of thousands of cattle died because of extreme temperatures.

Anyway, the weather here in Chicago is nice; partly sunny and in the mid 70’s today. We’re going to get some much needed rain over the next couple of days. Lawns are scorched after the dry and hot conditions we had last week.
