@ scotty: That's basically true, BUT: The props will get "clipped" by the building if they are so tall that they would cover parts of the building. Let's say you wanted to place a lamp post inside the LOD box of the building - you could only do so without ptoblems if the lamp was placed at such a distance that it wouldn't cover anything of the building that's supposed to be behind the lamp.

This is a major shortcoming since one of the most important techniques to tie BAT and LOT together is by "blurring" the ground lines of the BAT with the help of some props that are in front of the building or behind it and cover parts of it or get partly covered by it - this adds so much depth and realism that a custom LOD can be an enormous asset, depending on the shape of the building. With L-shaped buildings, it's definitely the case.

Well, I have a few new in-game pics, I'm actually quite happy with it.

So I think I'll test it some more, and I think it will appear on the STEX sometime this week.

Thanks to all you people who gave me feedback and help! (If you have some more comments, please post them!)

This is shaping up to be an excellent building. I am eager to see the final product.

the building looks splendid 4.gif My only suggestion at this point is move the building up on the lot to better match with other w2w buildings

Hi, I'm back with a new project, also in Amsterdam, in the city center. I was thinking about making a diagonal building and this is what I have so far:

    diagonal.jpg

It's the corner between the Prinsengracht and the Elandsgracht in the Jordaan area.

It needs more work on the texturing.

Maybe someone can help me with making it a diagonal (overhanging) building, once I tried it but the SHADOW of my building was gone (because it was a prop?)

Oh sweet that is a fantastic diagonal so far 4.gif the handrails on the straight/front side looks a bit kinky, but the angled ones look fine. Not exactly sure whats going on there

When you make something a prop in the plugin manager, make sure you read all of the different effects on all of the different tabs.  One of them is about shadows.

For your window, use the method in my signature, and then add the maxis window texture on top of it, as an overlay.  This will give the windows more "depth" and variation, and they will look better.  I don't remember if you have Photoshop or not.  If you don't search google for "GIMP" and download that, it's a free program that is similar.

The new building is looking good.  1.gif

Does anyone know, if I make the building a prop (so it can hang over) how I can resolve the fact that a building is needed in the lot editor? (i'm thinking of making it a landmark, maybe a commercial one)

anyhow, this is how it looks like now (in the lot editor). I think I will add some sun screens and shop signs at the little shops below, maybe some other details.

[Dutch] Wauw Neerlandsche bats heh? Altijd mooi om te zien! 2.gif [/Dutch]

Very detailed and quite lifelike. I am missing a bit of grunge though, some stains in the roof textures for instance - places where people have added new layers on top.

Wow, the building looks great! 19.gif

To make the bulding fit the lot, using ilive's reader, open up the sc4desc file and click on the exempler file.  Change the "occupant size" to be something like 15.0 15.0 15.0... that should do the trick!

also, you can open up the sc4tool, and change the occupation size (somthing like that) so that the building overhangs.

    some improved textures:

As said, there will be some sun screens and signs. About the overhanging, I think I will figure that out. If you have tips, however, please post them.

Simple, diagonal, superbly modelled… a great cheer, it is beautiful work!  29.gif

Only the nightlighting need a little bit more work IMO!

Right now I've made a landmark version, and I'm trying to make a functional commercial ploppable version using simgoober's tutorial, but it won't work just yet (the lists in my ilive reader are not the same as in the tutorial, because my lot file has not the same stats as my sc4desc file?)

Allright, I've -I think- figured out how to make it a functional commercial plop. I can't really test it because my game has some problems, so if someone would like to test it, just let me know. It looks like this right now:

looks great! I saw on your diagonal that stupid green grass from diagon roads cropping up. I belive you could download Preppos basic diagonal models which also have tiling accurately modeled to run along the road that covers up any grass and use that part of it.

@Sim shady: I think I know what you mean, the green edge where there should be a sidewalk. I am actually quite happy with the distance- it lines up wit the straight w2w buildings, but it should be tiled. I'm not sure if you are providing me a solution?

@Jasoncw: yeah, I've noticed that. Maybe later today or tomorrow I will send in some better pictures.

yes, i should have been more clear about that. Prepo has been working on diagonal buildings for sometime now. He has modeled the diagonal sidewalks for his buildings, and released a basic set for other BATers to use.

Here just check out his thread if you havent already since i cant explain this well 3.gif
