The buzz around this game wheather it be positive or negative...is very un-nerving.....what will happen to simcity4? just like The Sims....it is very very hard to find custom content for the original sims now days.......is this a pattern for simtropolis?

As for SCS... bah, if you feel the need to buy it, go ahead... nobody can promise it will be a good game.

I think it will be shipping with Spore as part of a boxed set.

I think that would be the first time in history that competing gaming companies package their games together into one box set.

Darn, so it's not a Christmas present... don't know why I thought that...

One thing's for sure, I'm getting CU and Spore, and the City Life 08 demo is pretty cool.

One thing I'd love to see is an expandable and custumiseable interface menu. Sort of like the way Windows uses folders. And the ability to add new folders of items. This would avoid the current problem that many of us now have with so much custom content: Endless Parks Menus, etc...

Okay, this is an EXCELLENT idea... I had never thought of this. I'd post this to the forums if there's not a similar idea there already...

oh... 41.gif

Well, I'm waiting for some suburban pics, but until then, maybe they could give us a hint of what the UI design and structure will be...

SCS's looks like a shiny version of SC3000's (god awful)... and SC4's is a little fisher-price looking. I hope that MC can pump out a deacent looking UI.

But, yeah, we'll see a demo by christmas '08, and the game shortly after that.

Hey guys,

Just a quick note to let you know that we just posted a new blog entry about the Zoning and Plopping question... Moreover, you'll have the opportunity to test a prototype of our solution to this highly discussed question 2.gif

CU there! 9.gif

Good Humour lol 3.gif

I checked the new zoning prototype yesterday, I like it but it can be a bit annoying getting everything where you want if you know what I mean, neat prototype though,

Richard

Can we plop things in and amongst these buildings Phillipe? And will all the lots be square? If there will be curved roads (YAY!) can't we have lots that a curved in shape or that are more polygon and not just square/rectangle?

I am quite intrigued by that concept for the zones! Not to mention spiffy little java thingy 3.gif. Can't wait to see the next blog post, currently the CU blog is the only RSS feed I have on my vista side bar, so post more!

Standby.

Download Java. I opened it up in Internet Explorer, where Java can be used.

Hi guys,

It's funny how you raise even more questions once we give you more information about the game directions. 3.gif

ilkehotdogsalot (that's a nickname 9.gif), there's no video this time: it's a small Java applet prototype made by Mathieu, one of our developers working on the sim side, demonstrating our first view on teh Mass Placement Tool.

As mpol says, download the latest java runtime at http://www.java.com, install it, restart your browser if it was opened and have fun with it! 2.gif

Cheers,

So phill, with his awesome feature, with there be polygon and circular shaped lots to help fill in the shapes that will not be square or rectangular? I think you guys have found the perfect medium to keep the ploppers and zoners happy.

CU seems like what I was expecting in Sim City 5! What I've seen so far makes me Very excited for what's to come. The only question I would have is What companies from City Life will also be working on this?

I guess Alphathewolf is asking if the same people who worked on City Life, will be working on Cities Unlimited?

Oh and will be get regions alla SC4? I SO SO hate the small cities I am restricted to build in the newer 3D city simulation games. They are so annoying. Please Phil, let us all know and put us out of our misery.

Hi mpol,

Some people from the City Life team are working on Cities Unlimited and they value their experience working on a city builder game which is far from being an easy task especially if you are getting into the realistic way.

I cannot tell you much more than it has been said for now... The only thing I can tell is that everything we published so far in http://www.cuplanet.com is meant to be part of the released game... including the planet screenshot you saw earlier... 2.gif

Cheers,

Whatever!  It still has ferris wheels, how can it be anything other than a kids game?  Or a game for the simple minded?

There is no sarcasm in my family...

edit:  meowza:  Oh, I'm sure it will get as much positive attention as SC:S.quote>

Yes, that is a ferris wheel, but it is an actual real life landmark in London... Not the same thing as say, the candy canes in SCS.... I told the developers of this game, after watching the video here on ST, to go sit and spin on your candycanes EA...  In the other screenshot, you have W2W, elevated over road and 3d peds... Im really excited about this game... So much so that I have already gone out and bought a Vostro 400 with all the bells and whistles... Not bragging though... I have paid my dues playing SC4 on 03 pavillion with a Celeron, 256 MB 64 Mb Pci   talk about slow...

My only request of this game is that you can damn rivers to make lakes. I know it's very difficult to do technology wise, but it would add so much to my game enjoyment. Water is such a huge part of the world, I'd hate to see it remain so simple in games.

Dasilva, im really exited about cities unlimited as ive been playing simcity since the first one. Also its great to see the developer taking the time and answering fans questions like this, cudos to you man, not enough companies do this imo.

Anyways my question is what kind of power plants will be available in CU? Or if theres no solid plans for the plant types or you cant reveal that can you tell us how many different types there will be? I always liked having the option of differing types of power plant.
