1_ E.A could rename SimCity Societies something different like :

> The URBZ Societies

2_ Then, they have to launch a real development for SimCity 5 (urban realistic)

> SimCity 5

Realistic Urban Simultation

To obtain good and reaslitic city ...

Umm... actually we also saw several statements from EA and TM, both stating that they're basically taking away the things most of us love about SC4 in favor of features we never cared about and most still don't, not at the cost of sacrificing the parts of the game we've grown to love.

I don't know how Doom 4 would play without all those guns, either... but I'm pretty darn sure I wouldn't like it. Not as a sequel. A separate game track with a "Doom-like theme" to it? Maybe. But Doom 4 itself? Uhh... no. Just... no. (Might be fun to use a BFG on one of those gingerbread houses though.)

Same thing with SC:S. Take out what I enjoy about the entire series? That's all I need to know. SC:S as a separate game that doesn't abandon the hope of a true realistic urban simulation to succeed SC4? Great, I might try it, probably would. This is the new direction for the series as a whole?

No. Just... no.

Actually, talking about Doom just got me thinking about another franchise that took some pretty radical turns - Metal Gear. The game mechanics have changed through a spectrum ranging from stealth based FPS to virtual card game, but still managing to keep the Metal Gear 'feel' (and name) throughout, so it is possible... I wonder if TM will be able to pull that off, radically changing the game mechanics while still keeping it all feeling 'SimCity'...?

I know how it will play, based on press releases. You slide a bunch of bars around that represent six social "energies." That's what determines what kind of buildings and cities develop, no matter what you plop. It's fundamentally changing the gameplay itself, watering it down to the point of removing all of the detail-oriented management and placing those decisions on the AI/game mechanics.

After that, it's really simple. Simply plop down your ginger bread houses, tree houses, or haunted graveyards and there you have it! Building a city has never been so easy!

Yup yup, graphics do not a game make. The pics/screenshots are just an easy way to capture and advertise a game. Graphics are quite low on my list of priorities. I'm waiting to hear about gameplay, core gameplay, and that is mighty difficult to capture in a few bytes and slap on a mag cover.

And yeah, the thread title is a bit misleading. I thought that there'd been a legit change of plans.

The title for the thread is a bit (actually a lot!) misguiding, you should change it.

I thought it was actual news 22.gif

Jesus man. YOU JUST CAN'T GET THAT WITH 3D!!! Well, you can, but there won't be regions.

Yes, SCS can look better, but we need to all decide what we want (2D or 3D) and ask TM/EA to change it and/or make it ourselves. I have been guilty of wanting more, but man, Flight Sim X is the MOST I'd expect it to look at 3D.

Mabye, we can have 2D, with the ability to look at the skyline from one point. Could that be done?

Change your message title because SCS has not been renamed. SimCity is still heading to the Cliff of Doom.

This was totally misleading, but it gave me an idea: sue EA!!! For what, you ask? Defamation, of course! Oh God, what have I done . . . TopCliff

Oh, "Simtropolis vs. Electronic Arts Inc." Who pays the lawyer and who gets the cash?

Don't worry, I know enough lawyers to completely fill every cubicle in the Chrysler Building! Besides, some of them owe me . . . favors. Yes, let's put it that way. Besides, it would be one corporate conglomerate against near 175,000 people internationally (maybe Will Wright would join us). It's like sending a cat against a pen overstocked with rabid pit bulls. No offense, but who cares what the game is called?  Call it "Ultimate SimCity"  if you want, it doesn't change the game.   I do not buy games based soley on name recognition.  I read the box, check the reviews, look at screenshots, etc.  Who are you trying to protect by changing the name?  It is EA's game, they can call it anything they want.

And I agree about the thread title, it is very misleading!

Im also afraid this is more of a "Simsocieties: in the city" than "Simcity: societies"
