Thanks for that. At least it explains the tacky fair ground and space age shots. I think I'll stick with the art-deco building style thank you very much!

So i guess this means i better start learning the bat . SCS doesnt take anything away from SC4 execpt  main spot on ea website , but like i ever went there anyway i will play both ,two totaly differant concepts for city building from EA . The playabilty of SCS means its something that could be completed in several weeks , i suppose once you made all 5 -6 differant cities ,and tryed all the maps ,i be ready for sim city 6 sometime late Dec 07 .

I guess this bit is for the new players to SC 'Or if players are feeling happy, they can build a Fun City filled with Ferris Wheels, Gingerbread Houses and Chocolate Factories!'

But even i doubt that new players will do that.

Well at least this address's one of my major concerns. You can make any combination of the energies. For awhile I was thinking if you started on one, you have to stick to it. That would have severely limited the open end aspect of the game.

Looks like though we'll have to look forward to some sort of Bat to add more realistic buildings to the fold.

Thankfully though, most of the commentary around here and on the Tilted Mill forum is strictly objective, right?  41.gif

Whee, gingerbread house! Ya know, if someone wanted that, there would have been a mod for it already. Doesn't that tell you something?

The press release, and the game in general, seem to be created for The Sims demographic (no offense -- I play the game too). LIKE OMG GUYS CAN I HAVE FAIRIES AND PONIES TOO!!11

/jaded SimCity fan.

That exclamation point at the end of the gingerbread houses sentence just makes it all the more discouraging. Thats the thing we're supposed to be excited about?

. .well try to keep positivequote>

Yay for optimism! I will admit that the game has come a long way from that first screen shot.

Wait a minute... Gingerbread houses? Chocolate factories? 41.gif I don't think SCS is going to be like the other SimCity titles we know and love so much.

It should be noted that the article, after mentioning the chocolate factories, said this:

"Inspiration can come from a wide range of architectural periods ranging from the realistic to the fanciful"

Obviously, the gingerbread houses & chocolate factories are a part of the "fanciful" set of architectural styles. You don't have to use them if you don't want. Obviously, this game will be different than past SC games because it won't just be realistic, but will combine realistic with fantasy. If you pick realistic then power to you - otherwise you can pick fantasy.

I'm not going to say whether this is bad or good... it depends on the individual. Luckily, Monte Cristo allows us to have other options - the beauty of competition 4.gif

This is a good way for them to sell expansions (which I think is probably EA's ambition) - Harry Potter style set anyone? New York style set? Anything in between... I think it's pretty obvious where this is going. Different themes could = $$$, just likes the Sims expansions.

Ooh, I'm going to make an Orwellian chocolate factory where all the laborers are drugged, mindless drones, and dissenters are boiled alive in huge vats of milk chocolate, then stuffed with nougat and put on display as an example to others.

I like the expansion idea... I thought they were going to end up having more expansions/tilesets for Sc4, but we all know how that turned out. Anyway, it would be cool to have some continued support for the game.

It is sounding like SCS is going to look and feel more like a variant of the Civilization franchise. I remain doubtful and cynical in light of what I've seen so far yet I'm intrigued to see how it all unfolds. Some have made the comment that it may come down to keeping SC4 as the hardcore game and SCS as more of a mainstream diversion (with gingerbread houses and candy cane lamp posts and puppies made of milk chocolate, hee-hee-ha-ha!). We may just have to learn to enjoy SC4 on one level and SCS on another (dare I say dumber) level.

Okay, gingerbread houses??? I think I'll do the same thing to those gingerbread houses as I did with my real gingerbread house: put it next to an ant hill and slowly watch it disappear. I guess for that to happen, though, we'd need virtual ants . . . Anyone here still have SimAnt? TopCliff

I don't. Look at how exploitive The Sims has become; EA milks those fans for every nickel and dime they can get. And it's not just EA: remember the horse armor for Oblivion on Xbox Live? How about the episodic content garbage?

I never buy exploitation "item packs" and stuff because it only encourages more nickel and diming from the gaming companies.

This is definitely an interesting concept that they're doing for this game. And despite (seemingly) popular opinion, it could work very well in a SimCity game. Having your city's soul and overall feel shaped by the way build it (the way I understand it... and if I'm wrong, it's the way I think it should be 3.gif ) is a great next step for the game to explore. They just need to approach it correctly.
