TekindusT: I don't think that an airport would work well with those terrain problems. But still. You have to admit that that IS one amazing airport.

You're right, it's built in a very hilly landscape. I thought terraforming it but it was when I had placed all the terminals.

The old airport for my latest city, Rajapura International Airport (RJI).

It features one 3260m runway oriented 27-09.  Because of limited runway slots and parking stands, the airport operates widebodied jets exclusively to ease congestion from aircraft movements.  There are two terminals, the old Terminal 1 (on the left in the main picture) which deals primarily with flights to other Asian destinations or by major Asian carriers, and a relatively new Terminal 2 (on the right, in the form of a pier), which is the base of European and North American airlines.

In recent years the airport has become increasingly congested, and alternative locations are being pursued for a new airport for the economically important Rajapura region.

Looking Northwards, the main airport buildings and apron are visible.  The runway continues onto the adjoining map:

The main entrance and parking spots.  Access to the airport is provided by two freeways, one is a direct connection to the downtown (south), the other is a general connection to the island's freeway system (east):

That one is simply amazing, raja_indy14. It looks like that took a lot of time and effort. It came out a lot better than my attempts at building an airport.

Beautiful airports! I never liked spending much energy into creating custom airports, but these ones are very inspiring!

TekindusT, I love the massiveness of that airport!

terring, the "naturalness" of your airport looks very nice! It reminds me of a small airport in Germany I flew into once, somewhere in central Germany. The trees are a nice feature

raja_indy14, your airport looks very nice as well! You have a great highway system, which seems to flow very natural to support that airport

raja_indy14: In SC4, building realistic entrances for airports is very difficult, but you did a great job on yours!

Most of these are simply epic. Ill be sure to put up my own terrible attempt at an airport once my new copy of the game shows up.

Yes, the PFB has been here for a long time. Maybe, when I've got the time, I will post pictures of (one of) my airport(s).

Welcome to Terragen International Airport!

Overview1-1.jpg

Terragen International Airport is a major aerial gateway located in the fictional Crescent County, California. It is a new focus city for two airlines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines, and is served by 14 airlines and 2 subsidiaries to 48 destinations in Canada, Great Britain, Japan, and the US. Twenty million passengers passed through the airport in 2008.

The airport has 50 gates and two parallel runways. Runway 18L/36R is 11,020 feet x 150 feet, while Runway 18R/36L 8920 feet x 150 feet. Both are capable of handling full-size jets.

Terminals2-1.jpg

The airport features a large midfield terminal complex and has three concourses. A brand new international terminal is currently under construction, and is slated to open in the summer of 2012. An additional 25-gate satellite concourse to expand domestic capacity is planned but has not been officially approved due to the stagnating economy.

ConcourseA3-1.jpg

Concourse A is located immediate beyond both security checkpoints, and the layout hugs the terminal building. It has nine gates and is serviced by the following airlines:

  • Delta Air Lines: Gates A1-A3 (Atlanta, Cincinnati, New York-JFK, Salt Lake City)
  • JetBlue Airways: Gates A4-A5 (Boston, Long Beach)
  • Continental Airlines: Gates A6-A9 (Cleveland, Honolulu, Houston-Intercontinental, Newark)

ConcourseB4-1.jpg

Concourse B has 13 gates. It is being used temporarily for international flights until the new Concourse D is completed; however, domestic airlines are still serviced through here as well. Concourse B is served by the following airlines:

  • British Airways: Gate B1 (London-Heathrow)
  • Alaska Airlines: Gate B2-B3 (Portland OR, Seattle-Tacoma)
  • Northwest Airlink: Gate B3 (Detroit) Note: Delta Air Lines will be consolidating this flight under their existing merger with Northwest within a matter of months. At that point Alaska Airlines will claim sole control of the gate.
  • Virgin America: Gate B4 (San Francisco) Note: plane shown is Virgin Blue livery temporarily leased to Virgin America
  • Frontier Airlines: Gate B5 (Denver)
  • US Airways: Gates B6-B8 (Charlotte, New York-LaGuardia, Philadelphia, Phoenix)
  • WestJet: Gates B9-B10 (Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver)
  • Air Canada Jazz Gate B11 (Vancouver)b]Horizon Air: Gates B12-B13 (Portland OR, Seattle-Tacoma, Spokane)

ConcourseCN5-1.jpg

Concourse C is a remote concourse connected to the main terminal via a ground-level walkway. It contains 28 gates. The west wing is served by the following airlines:

  • United Express: Gates C1-C4 (Boise, Denver, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Portland OR, Reno-Tahoe, San Francisco, Seattle-Tacoma
  • United Airlines: Gates C5-C13 (Baltimore-Washington, Boston, Chicago-O'Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Los Angeles, Orlando, San Francisco, Tokyo-Narita, Washington-Dulles)

ConcourseCS6-1.jpg

The east wing of Concourse C is served by the following airlines:

  • American Airlines: Gates C14, C16, C18 (Boston, Chicago-O'Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, St. Louis)
  • Southwest Airlines: Gates C15, C17, C19-C28 (Albuquerque, Austin, Burbank, Chicago-Midway, Denver, Houston-Hobby, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Ontario CA, Orange County, Phoenix, Portland OR, Reno/Tahoe, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle/Tacoma, Spokane)

ConcourseD7-1.jpg

Concourse D is currently under construction. When completed, the concourse will contain 12 gates, and the new terminal extension will expand the airport's capacity to handle international transpacific and transatlantic flights. New routes to Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, and Mexico are all under consideration.

Intersection8-1.jpg

Terragen International Airport can be accessed in several ways. Shown above is the intersection of the airport access road with CA Route 21. From the north, CA 21 is an eight-lane freeway that heads into the downtown core. South of the intersection, the freeway narrows to just four lanes and heads into the unincorporated suburbs and rural areas of the south county. This portion passes the airport via a trench that stradles the western taxiways.

Public transportation is available. A number of bus routes serve the airport, and there is also a light-rail connection - CityTrak's Green Line terminates at the airport.

The airport contains several long-term parking lots that are connected to the terminals via shuttle buses. One of these is located in the median of CA 21.

Rentalcar9-1.jpg

Rental car facilities are available offsite via shuttle bus. These are also in the median of CA 21.

Hotels10-1.jpg

Several hotels are available to passengers passing through. Here is a small selection of them; some are located farther away.

18R11-1.jpg

A small general aviation area is located at the north end of the airport.

GenAv12-1.jpg

The main general aviation area is located between the runways on the south side of the airport. Cargo facilities are also based here.

Shown below are some miscellaneous shots:

That's all!

I need to ask, do your airports make money, or run your city bankrupt? I placed my first custom airport on an empty city lot and ran that lot dry of money. Thanks!

@Wiecher: Speechless. I had never seen a Frank Gehry-like airport in SC4!!!

@The_Hutt: You've got very realistic interchanges and runways, very good job!

@WARGOD: when replying a topic, you simply have to look for a yellow frog icon on the second row of editing icons, the one it is near the YouTube icon and is called "Upload to Imageshack". Then, a dialog will open and you will be able to search in your computer for the desired picture. Then, depending on your resolution, tick the "Resize image?" option and look on the list for your choice. In this thread, you want to show your pics with the most detail, so pick the last one, 800x600 (for Forum and CJ). Remember that posting bigger resolution pictures (when it's not a mosaic) is against the rules and they could be deleted by a moderator.

I made this for the current airport contest (in community goings-on, so check it out) and its the best I ever pulled off.

Here's my airport, Anderson International Airport and Air National Guard Base. It features three paralell runways: two for the actual airport, and one reserved for the Air Guard. Being the largest airport in the large nation of Acadia, almost every major airline in the world has a gate here, with the largest presences belonging to Southwest, American, and JAL.

Airportoverview.jpg

Here's the ANG Base. Nothing special, just my cookie-cutter lots combined with a mix of tabi and PEG military plane props.

ANGBase.jpg

Most of the flights into Anderson are regional flights. 737s, CRJs, and A320s make up most of the mix.

RegionalTerminal.jpg

The two International Terminals have flights to over a dozen countries. A340s and 747s handle most of them.

InternationalTerminal1.jpg

There's a small General Aviation holding by on the Western edge of the airport, full of Cessnas and Learjets.

GeneralAviation.jpg

These are the airports large long-term parking facilities. The Acadia Convention Center and a group of hotels are also nearby.

HotelandConventionCenter.jpg

Thats all I've got, I think it looks pretty good. Hopefully you all do, too.
