Sim City: in a new direction

ok first of all I am disapointed about SCS, but it's no reason to critisize the game and Tm.

Now SC is going in a new direction just face it

Rembember Will Wright did want sim city to be less complex and here it is.

hard core fans do like(I am one of them) building, magaging, and doing complex things in SC4

SCS or SC5 is changing that. it will be less complex and easier

To make a long story short:

SCS or SC5 may someday change the gaming world with it's new ideas

i don't think a petion is going to do anything

when it comes out it could  be a lot different

It sim city 6 does come out let's hope Maxis will lead it!

(Maxis is busy with Spore so that's why Sim City got to TM)

So you are telling us we have no reason to be disappointed or to moan? Yeah right, I mean, we just got our hopes for a good game blown to pieces after 5 years of waiting.

Stabbing in the back anyone?

Its not new Idea's, its just re-hashed City Life ones... we all knew that as soon as the name 'Societies' popped into our heads...

After the 1up preview, and the screenshots, I have no desire to buy the game.  It just isn't Simcity to me.

There's no reason why EA/Maxis couldn't of handled Simcity 5 with Will Wright poking into the conference room every now and then to see its status.

To just hand off one of the BIGGEST series in PC gaming to a subpar developer is just very sad IMO.

I'm sticking with SC4.  There's nothing that interests me in Societies.

in short, they could and should have done away with the power and water systems. Lets face it, who likes planning where to put the water pipes in SC4? Most of the budgeting? hogwash! Good riddance to those headaches. But I think they will probably take the simplification too far (judging from the screen shots they may have).

In order to make it easier to use it will be given a lobotimy. I may buy it anyway and I may like it for a while, but I will still return to SC4 until a real replacement comes along.

Sim City always set the pace for building games... so why step back? Maxis would have known NOT to copy a game that already exists... Look at the Sims! Look at Spore! Both are unique and both are by Maxis! This game is merely stepping in the poorly modeled footsteps of CityLife... a very Ironic turn... Sim City influenced City Life... now City Life is influencing Sim City...

I can't help but curse behindgritted teeth everytime I read some more news about the game... I review should give you hope, not a rage induced  Tumor.

maybe they will make this game appeal to the masses, then the masses buy it, join ST, find out they dislike SCS, see how much fun SC4 is, go out and buy SC4. then we will all live happily ever after (till Sim City:Societies 2)

Well, they'll come to ST looking for custom content and only find a slither or poorly modeled crappola... I don't know any talented batter that is going to make the transition to SimSoc (Or SimSuck as I call it now), and that will make for poor playability.

"Sims (yes, they're using that term) will skip work if they're in a bad mood or start engaging in criminal activity (such as vandalization). "

Are you kidding me? If I wanted that in a Simcity game, I would play "The Sims 2." I don't want to deal with the idiot sims.

With the knowledge that a lot of the community has with modding etc. we still will have plenty of content to keep sc4 going for many years. Since the time that I joined , many advances have been made to somewhat fix what the developers left out.Right now Tarkus and the NAM team (I apologize to those members I didn't mention )are working on more transportation improvements that probably never would have occured to the developers to implement! I truly am dissapointed with the direction that this franchise has headed and probably wont purchase this title. That being said , although I don't post much, comment much etc. , I truly love this community and appreciate all of your hard work!

Maybe someday those of you that understand programming will get the chance to actually create the true SimCity 5

I am disappointed again. Not angry, just... well it seems clear SC4 will remain the dominant simulation. They've missed the point entirely. Micromanagement = many many many many options that affect your cities, to the point that it's impossible to build the same city twice, even if you do the exact same things... or so you thought.

Why go backwards to make it simpler for the simple crowds? I can understand the need to make it easier for players who don't enjoy so many options. But why not satisfy them with "do it for me options" ... like advisors that recommend new transit networks (not just say you need one, actually propose a fully-built network, complete with stations), automatically determine budget needs and adjust them, propose new zones so all I have to decide is "yes or no". ADD ... not subtract. Don't take away the things the core fan base enjoys. Leave that complexity there, or the veterans won't bat an eye at it, and your "new players" will get bored quickly.

Add some "societies" feel to the game? Ok, but again... keyword: add. Not sacrifice the fundamental purpose of the game since its inception and turn it into something...else.

Make it more like The Sims? No thank you. I've had no interest in that game. Nothing against it, just not my bag, never was. Integration with The Sims? So, my Sims character can be used in either game, and experiences gathered in one affect his/her character in the other? Hmm... maybe I would try The Sims and SCS. Oh wait, they're taking away options and adding "Sims with Attitudes." Uhhh... no thanks. If I want The Sims, I'll buy The Sims. I want Sim City. Well nuts to me, I guess.

Will I buy it? I dunno. The graphics look tempting, yes... it might be a lot of fun .... IF I didn't already have SimCity 4 and SimTroplis to enjoy. Offer me something more than what I have - not less - if  you want my $.

Posted this in another thread that the reds at be chose to close. Guess the SC4D virus is spreading here...

I know as I looked at those screenshots and read the notes... that I was close to tears. I feel like I've been shot in the heart. Four and a half years of waiting, hoping, begging, wondering, for this. Simcity is dead. This game is not Simcity, and will duely shelve the franchise. I don't care if it does good in the stores, but it won't be what we have made out of the name.

Its horible really... what these people think we want, what they make us think we want and need. Why after all these years of watching the forums, of knowing what we want and expect... to turn around, sling mud on our faces, and discrace the name with, with... THAT.

I just wanted to say my mind, thats all. I'd like to know how you guys really feel about this. Please, no one liner "they suck!" and the normal BS thats been going around this place. Take a few minutes and speak your mind. Not that it matters anymore, its hopeless and gone... maybe this will be more of a wake for our dear friend.

Rest in peace Simcity, I'm proud to say I played you.

PS: You optomistic people don't need to reiterate yourself, we know who you are, just not why you think that this is an okay thing.

I don't feel up to editing or reiterating myself to make it just fit in as a comment, sorry.

Ya, I know how you feel LP. SC2k was the first PC game I ever got, back when I was 7 years old. My mom drove all over town trying to find it for me. Hell, I still have the original box with the receipt from Egghead Software. Being the nostalgic geek that I am, I proudly keep the box in my bookshelf with the install disks tucked inside. The news was crushing to me as well. While I don't play SimCity every day like I used to, I still value the series and read SimTrop a few times a week.

There is a very simple method of protest that no one ever seems to consider:

    Don't buy it.

If you're unhappy with what they're doing to the game, don't buy it. They'll notice the dip in sales.  This may come as a shock, but EA is a corporation, in business to make MONEY. If a decision they make causes them to make less money than previously, they will generally change their strategy. If SCS's sales charts aren't up to par with Sim City 4's, they'll most likely give the project for Sim City 6 back to the guys they know can make money, Maxis.

    Capitalism is a beautiful thing.

Yeah, I also know your pain I've played every Simcity gam they made, including the First one, and now it is being laid to rest. Simcity 4 will remain the greatest one untill Simcity 6 hopefully.

But you see... people will still buy it. Somehow all the protestors are now going "i'll give it a try". And really, thats all they want. If they get thier money, they're happy. Once they get what they want, they shove this failure onto the discout shelves, and SC is useless to them. They won't even admit they did something wrong, they'll just blame us for not appreciating what they made for us.

I for one will not buy it, I don't have time to waste on such garbage. I've let EA slide with thier half-assed job they've done on every Sims 2 EP, but this takes the cake. I really hope Will feels ashamed for allowing something like this to carry the name. He's lost his followers, and thats gotta hurt anyone.

I know the feeling LP, Will really needs to focus on his fans in the future and not let EA run wild with any future titles... SimCity or otherwise.

I for one was dreading the SC5 announcement ever since I heard it was going to be 'dumbed down', but I thought "They can't dumb it down too much can they...?!"... but, I guess they can.

That chat with Dave...whatever his last name was... wasn't very enlightening, he couldn't answer most of the questions asked (EA prolly had a gun to his head) but it did make me feel a little better, they REALLY seem to want to hang on to the fanbase, obviously so they can sell more and please EA (like it was some sort of tribal god)...but this game is going nowhere it seems, i'll be trying the game but not buying thats for sure...

I can't fathom why Will hasn't said anything, some of us have been dedicated fans since simcity classic. Now it just feels as though he's abandoned us for the money making sims. Where are you Will?! 15.gif

    I feel insulted!

I came into the game in late 2005 and was blown away with the sheer level of intelligence and sense that a game could posses! SC4 is definetley a tool, not a game!

But what the hell is this plastic crap?

Just like what they do to good ol' playgrounds... they replace all the awesome wooden stuff with this cheap plastic junk!

    What has the world become??

Guys, can we please stop saying that simcity is dead, its not dead... not even close to being dead. Yes this game is nowhere near being worthy of the simcity name but as long as we have SIMCITY 4 AND SIMTROPOLIS, Simcity will never die. Simcity will only die if this site along with the others who are like it stop doing what they are doing, and thats bringing us custom content. If not for everyone here who puts so much work into bringing us what we have here, simcity to me would have died awhile ago.

All we can hope for is that one day we can see maxis return to what they do best for us and thats bring us a simcity we can all enjoy and play, but untill then we have what we have now and i am perfectly happy with what i have here.
