Currently: Viewing Topic: Das Model

And from I heard it might be a bit simpler and user-friendly. We'll just have to see. THey haven't really started modeling yet.

RIGHT - HERE IS THE LOWDOWN ON WHAT WE KNOW OF SIMCITY 5

This is taken from something a Maxis Guy said

"SimCity kind of worked itself into a corner, (because) we were still appealing to this core SimCity group. It had gotten a little complicated for people who had never played SimCity. We want to take it back to its roots where somebody who had never heard of SimCity can pick it up and enjoy playing it without thinking it was really, really hard."

That means they want to make the game much easier for new players.

Some websites have also released a date saying 9th November 2007 for UK and 6th November for US.

Maxis have only said it is in the pipelines and this release date is not official although it is believed to be right as Maxis hinted they wanted to release it his year at around October or November.

But it is under construction as Maxis said that in a late 2006 statement but they won't reveal any info or news or even a name for the game.

And that's why we crash. We want a super, ultra-deep 3D replacement to SC4, they want a simpler version that harkens back to the original. The clash of the century!

~ COMING SOON! Exciting new projects! ~

I don't think they go too far with this "making it easier", and definitely not in visual and technical subjects cuz they got a tough competition with city life when it comes to the final look of the city. in this special case, I feel like the only thing that kept sim city floating on top of it all was the brand "sim city" and everthing it stands for, plus the feelings the core sc players have.

But it's good that they want to change something to get new ppl playing it, cuz this mentioned core players will buy the new title anyway, no matter if it's crap or not (pretty much like the "real" fans of bands who go n buy every album, no matter if it's good or bad), but new players will also listen to what expirienced players, fan players if you want, tell about the new title so I say maxis has to (and certainly will) find a good balance between lighten the gameplay for new ones but still keep with the demands of the core players.

my suggestion here, to make the difficulty levels hardlined, so there's not just a change in the amount of money but also a change in things you gotta take care of...

btw, there's already a sc5 topic, maybe you (lbland666) should have used the forum search feature first

Who have played anno 1701, it's so easy that I got bored in 10 min and go back to the earlier en deeper anno 1503. There was so much hidden and trown away, that it's no more fun to play. I hope they don't do that with simcity, because i've like it, you will know verry soon al the deep stuff in the game. Meaby a bit hard to learn, but better than a rip off of Simcity 3.

Simcity is al about traffic, planning and developing, that's the reson why simcity existed.

Make a simcity 5 with more traffic, better and real, like project RHW and the big dig. I have so much fun making cities with GLR. Glory to the NAM

Well Will Wright's speeches on Spore reflect his idea of making a simpler user friendly game - Spore is supposed to be extremely easy to use (i.e. make creatures, buildings, etc...) - I think he said you could make an extremely customizable and advanced building in Spore with just a click and drag of the mouse (I think he even said his 7yr old niece or daughter was able to do it).

With Wright's genius and philosophy on the future of gaming, I think "simpler" doesn't automatically mean less advanced. I think we can still have a great 3D city simulation game with extremely customizable tools & features along with his "easier for new users" approach.

As long as Wright is a part of the project then I'm not worried. But I am worried if it really does come out as soon as some people think it will then Wright may not be working on it (he's so busy with Spore, then there's Sims 3). If someone besides Wright designs the game I'm afraid it may fail.

Whenever SC5 arrives and whatever it looks like, I'll I ask is that they let it run well on realistic comp specs. SC4 is relatively "old" in computer and gaming terms but SC4 can still make the most pimped out systems chug, if you use enough plug-ins, mods, high game settings, etc. I just don't want to have to take a second mortgage out on my house so I can buy a Cray supercomputer to run SC5 on the lowest settings.

I hate to sound like a broken record and refer back to Wright and Spore, but I do feel Wright's Spore is a great indicator of what we can expect with SC5. Wright has indicated that Spore will run decently on computers thanks to a new technology (watch his first demo... he spends the first 20 minutes just lecturing about it and how it's the future of gaming).

I'm not a techno person so I can't recite what he said in great detail. But, the new technology he uses for Spore is the model I think he'll use for all of his future games, like Sims 3 & SimCity 5. Supposedly this technology is very small (physically) & uses complex algorithms and somehow this, according to him, allow games to runs better on computers. I think I should probably re-watch his demo so I can get a better footing on it.

I guess if a game like Spore that spans over galaxies can run well on computers then a region in SC5 probably can. I think Wright's onto something with the new technology he mentions.

A lot of game sites and fan sites are speculating when SimCity 5 will be released but a release date of this year seems a little soon (I'm not even done making NYC lol). I'm taking that release date with a grain of salt because they are always subject to change and I also think EA would have implemented marketing and promotion or given official word by now for a 2007 release date.

Usually, game developers promote the new title for about a year before it hits shelves to get the word out to their target user base. Upcoming game trailers have been posted on YouTube (either by marketers or by fans or both). It seems odd a big corporation like EA would release a new title without marketing it for a while first which is why I think a 2007 release is unlikely.

Who knows, maybe they'll just will surprise this year with SC5. Until SC 5 comes out (whenever that may be) I'll keep enjoying SimCity 4.

I'd prefer it if they released it either this year or in a few years time but not in between and I have a good reason to hope this.

Re: a release date for SC5, I think that's a good point: we haven't seen any marketing or promos for it yet.  So, you'd think that a 2007 release is unlikely.  Also, you'd have to think that SC5 would get similar marketing treatment as, say, Starcraft 2 although maybe that's debateable b/c Starcraft is probably a more popular game on a global scale -- if you don't believe me, read up on how Starcraft is basically a national sport in Korea and the top players make huge money in tournaments and get Hollywood-calbire celebrity treatment.

Anyways, I'm sure that EA will launch a massive marketing campaign well in advance of a release date to create a buzz.

No i think not cause each and everyone of us really knows this LoL... But we must keep the hope alive that maxis hasnt forgoten us and would probley devolp something that would allow all that we have made or will it end being done in vain????

This thread is definitely beating the dead horse. Enjoy all that ST has to offer until an official release date is given and some screen shots posted.

I would just watch what EA says. They have a habit of promising things and then forgetting about them. If and when they release the game it will be dumbed down to the level of other EA titles (seriously have you played any in awhile run and shoot or run and pass is your best bet to win). Hopefully Will Wright has some creative control still.

Nonetheless it will be interesting to see fan material at the beginning of this new game. As a lot of people have the hang of batting things not just using lot editor the new game will hopefully have more options for expanding it once it is released.
