I'm trying to make a city that is huge, covers the entire region of London, and is complete and total urban sprawl

for two medium cities, 6 small cities, and one under-developed medium city, i have almost 1.1 million sims.

i'm gonna tackle another medium city today, possibly the large one as well. I'll have another update around 8-9 EST

Ha, i've finished about 70% of the large city, and in that city alone i have Half A Million Sims!!!!

when i finish possibly tomorrow or maybe today, i hope to have a million sims in one city

i've got a problem though, it seems that at some point res. just stops developing.

i can't get much more residential, and i'm losing small zones to low desirability.

I've got an hour to work on this right now, i'll post maybe today or tomorrow

I would say maybe make a few temporary towns that are just full of Low Density commercial, residential areas and maybe a handful of farm towns. It can absorb some of the low density needs of the region and probably kick start your economy all over again...

Also, don't forget airports. =)

Your city needs to transition into a rural area, it looks so unnatural just having it go from skyscrapers to nothing. It looks like a great city otherwise.

Started the city in the middle of 2004 and its at 13700 years (3700) it reverts after 9999.

small cities are no problem but that nearly fully developed large city is taking something nasty to load.

might do two or three small cities today.

@outriderdriver: Q1, those pics are attached as attachments which you can do at the bottom of the window that opens up if you want to post, i didn't feel like running them through an image hosting service like photobucket. Q2, yes, I'm using money cheats and demand cheats. (scold me if you wish, but if i don't want to work on this for 2 years, both of those are necessary.

@Gridlock: i'm not sure if you're asking me a question, but a small city takes forty five minutes tops, mediums are 2 hours and the big one took me 6 and a half hours, and it's still going to take another hour and a half (20 is due to load times) to oil it's rather squeaky hinges

@outriderdriver post 2: WOW, that region is awesome! props! I guess it would be reasonable for me to shoot for about 20,000,000 but keep in mind that region looks a LOT bigger than London, which is included in SC4

I wouldnt scold you on using cheats for fast building. but after 4 million residents the city jumps up and down 20-40k residents at a time. I had two big regions and put them together. I think i counted last of about 150 city tiles not all built on. -nope, 174 developed in total-

You can shoot for any region size you want, theres always someones whose is bigger

pop is in mid 3 million, i plan to work on two medium cities today and hopefully plunk down my newly acquired Al burj to beef up my skyline

the Al Burj sucks. the shadows at the bottom and the shadows that appear from 2 veiws make it look really bad. Shhhh don't tell...but I used the dilapidation mod which doesnt simply stop the building from looking dirty but keeps the residents in it. It also helps boost the population somehow. so if big is what youre going for the dil mod is the secret key(removing and reinserting the mod into the game is what worked). plus the population graph wont match your written city population cuz it doesnt work out right. I took the mod off months ago. good luck sirrus.

i finished one medium city, but about 1/4th of the way through, i was doing conducting some expiriments with the disease research center and desirability and i decided to clean nuke it afterwards, but when the houses left over burnt down, there was this one that i could not demolish (it went through the animation, however it was still there. I querried it and my game crashed

okay, my population is at 4.1 mil.

interesting stats:

my region is only about 1/4 developed

my region is larger than the population of the entire country in 1790

my region is currently about the same population of Kentucky

my region is larger than half of the states

my if my region was real, it would attribute for roughly 13% of the US's population
