Today, I thought I might show you quickly how I go about making my residential areas.. From the city's perspective of course. 2.gif

    undeveloped.jpg

Here's an area cleared for residential development, sometime around when the city first rerouted the H3 at Capilano Ave. This is juuust north of where housing and development ends on 45th St.

    indevelopment.jpg

As time progressed, the developer started work on it, putting in roads and other utilities. The power lines may be moved, but at present will pose no threat to the future residents of the area; they're simply an eyesore.

    developed.jpg

And here we stand today, a fully developed area. Note how the developer has keenly left space for more roads should they decide to expand the area further.

    chellingworth.jpg

The wonderful Chellingworth Bridge. Out of nowhere, but hey. 3.gif

    That's it for now, folks!

Nice little tutorial! I must ask you, what trees do you use in those suburbs? I really like them, and might use them in some of my cities. Keep up the great work!!

I used to make suburbs like that, until it got too time consuming. They look better like that anyway.

Very flexible layout beebs! Your burbs have always looked good even if the houses were the Maxis ones, which I like.

Mr Beebs! Now what can I say here?

Ahh yes how to build low density suburbs - as you know or are about to know I am about to finish off the last part of high density development in The Core - Solaria, and need to start low density suburbia before hitting those farming blocks - any tips Beebs

    As for the development

4 thumbs ups BUT (yes there is a but) I am waiting for at least 2 bus stops here - they do wunders indeed (and so do toll boths for annoying commuters) 3.gif4.gif

Oh and where does that arch bridge go to?

These past updates have been good, but if I ever will travel to Capilano Valley, i'll travel by bus or taxi. Interchanges looks deadly!

I like the way you do your residential areas, but in my view, i prefer symmetrical streets! So, is just an opinion!

    Hi, Beebs,

Capilano Valley is coming along nicely.  Those interchanges...

*Was that our exit back there, Ethel?--Oh, dear, yes, that was it.--Well, there's bound to be another one soon.--Do you think so? I really need to find a ladies room, how far, do you suppose?--Well, that depends...*  3.gif

I like the design of the recreational areas of the city, they are bound to be popular.  Thanks for showing the steps for the suburban development.  It makes it easier to grasp to see the streets before building takes place.  Where I live, the RL newer areas are quite similar with the meandering streets.

    Take care.

those euro houses make the best suburbs.

I was just reading the other updates also lol

El Exigente, the demanding one, expects his cocaine to be pure and his master planned communities corrupt to the highest degree. Legend has it he visits each police checkpoint to see that all innocent drivers are being hassled. If he is pleased, they are allowed to wave the next vehicle in. If not, many are killed

It's update time! I promise a newspaper soon! I'm holding up for someone else so... well... you'll see. 2.gif

    changechellclose.jpg

And here's the H3-H22 Interchange... I like to call it the Chellingworth Interchange, myself.

    changechellbottom.jpg

It's a heck of a lot simpler than the Capilano-H3 Interchange.

    changechelltop.jpg

    Just another angle.

    chellingworthinterchangeout.jpg

And a zoomed out shot, showing off the Chellingworth Bridge as well.

    caph3h22.jpg

And here it is on the latest region map!

    That's it for now, folks!

    Glenni: Thånk yøu!

tomdapom: They're the Cycledogg trees, IIRC. Thank you! 9.gif

    Hopelandic: Thanks!

    Mikeaut1: Thank ya, Mikey! 9.gif

ajay_law: I've been doing them this way for so long, it's almost second nature to me. 2.gif In fact, I can barely make good commercial districts or downtowns anymore.

    Deever: Thank you! 4.gif

    sc4portugal: Thanks very much!

Palpatine001: Hehe 3.gif use a demi-grid once you start in low density, and move into more twisty roads after... that's the most realistic way to do it. And thank ya!

Krio: Hehe... you get used to them after a while. 2.gif

    homeandaway: Thank you!

waldner: Hehe.. to each his own! 9.gif

    Frankie_Grove: Thank yo!

    BlondeTwiggy: Thanks, twiggster! 4.gif

Livin in Sim: LOL I'm sure I could make them worse if I tried. 3.gif Thank you!

Apostate: Hehe yup.. I think it's just the similarity of the houses that makes them great.

Yes, very nice region and great presentation. I'd be interested in which program you use for your graphics, etc.

Wacky interchanges really. Well, most real life intersections/interchanges are kinda messy but they get the job done. Love it beebs!
