OK

the problem with testing Silverazul's setup is that I don't have anymore access to Max8.

And there might be some differences how Gamma Correction works in that version of the program and how it is set up nowadays in Max2k versions.

Trying the setting for Max8 on my Max2K... I also get wrong result but very different wrong result as to that of Silverazul. In fact it is too dark:

That been said still I think he might have made an error in setting his BAT4Max Gamma Correction.

Could you ask him to provide screenshots of his Material editor, and Gamma Settings screen from Preferences.

Hello,

I have installed 3ds Max 2012 but now I am not sure do I have to set up grid and units size. I just can't find where to setup grid size (in Customize > Units setup... I can just choose what units to use and not can't set Grid = 1m and so, which should be done in gmax)

I have installed bat4max but I am not sure if it did set up those values for me or not.

BAT4Max doesn't play with grid settings since it isn't necessary. I honestly never use grid points, since I model by numeric values not by counting blocks on the grid.

Anyway, you can change your grid settings by right clicking on the "Snaps Toggle" button and selecting the "Home Grid" tab.

Tnx, so if I understood you it is not important grid settings but it is perfectly fine just to set numeric values when creating new elemnt (for example: lenght: 10m, widht: 15m...) and everything should be ok when exported to SC4?

It's up to you if you want to use the grid to make your models, I use it make my buildings and to me it's important. :D

Quick problem - I'm doing a nighttime render and for some reason (I didn't adjust anything as far as I know) now when I press preview, nothing happens. Something went wrong in the layers is my guess, but I unfroze/unhid my BAT rig and still nothing happened. Any ideas?

When you did the night light did you use the Arch& Design self Illumination (Glow) to light up you windows glass, if not that's what you may need to do. You do not need to use any prefixes for 3ds max like in gmax like nite lite, just use the Arch& Design self Illumination (Glow) and click on Mais Nite or Dark Nite for your render, I hope that helps. :)

Uh uh...no render at all. Like, I click "preview" and nothing happens, no preview box comes up, etc. I've solved it before by merging it into a new file, but I'm not done with materials and I don't know how to copy them over...

Materials will exist in the scene if they're applied to an object. In the material editor there's a little eyedropper icon for selecting materials off objects. You can also get a list of all the materials in the scene by pressing the Get Material icon, which is a blue ball with an arrow pointing at it (it's also in the material editor).

I have a question: when rendering is it normal for your computer to grind to a screaming halt? It seems that whenever I render, I usually have to wait for it to finish, can't do anything else until it's done.

If so, is there a way to limit the number of cores that are being used for rendering or offload some of the work to the GPU if it doesn't do that already? I'd like to keep one core free at least for other things, which leaves five cores to do the rendering.

Yes the same thing happens to me some times, some times 3ds use all of the processor and some time it does not, you can just go to your task manager and right click the 3ds max exe. in the task manager in processes and go to set affinity and uncheck one of the cores to make the computer run faster but I'm sure you know by doing this will slow the render down, so a 6 minute render can be a 12 minute render. :)

And you have five cores, :O I wish I had your computer processor. :(

It'd be slowed by one-sixth (or thereabouts). Not by half. :P

But thanks for the suggestion, maybe I'll try core affinity when I next render. :)

And by the way, yes, my computer has a six-core processor. It's a Phenom II X6 1090T, a very capable processor.

Actually your opinion is also shared by analysts of hardware like this ...

"... In 3D rendering programs Phenom II X6 1090T simply massacred the Core i5-750, with 74% faster than this processor from Intel. So this new processor can be an excellent choice for professionals working with modeling and 3D rendering, and do not want to buy an expensive computer with a processor Core i7. "

But ... there is always .. Do not forget that the glorious processors still have as many cores have cache sharing, quick path or hipertreading etc ...

Something belonging to the lighting/camera rigs got messed with (unfrozen, moved, whatever), so just move your geometry (and only your geometry) to a new scene with a fresh light rig. Exclude lights, cameras, and the infamous "TB2Camera handle", and you should get good results.

Unfortunately I don't really know how to move my building to a new scene.

    But thanks for your help.
