Hi, it's me again and I've got another question.

I made a window with an arc out of a circle and a rectangle. I deleted to segments of the circle and on side of the rectangle with edit spline. Then I converted the circle and the rectangle with edit spline/ attach.

Now I'm trying to convert the window with the wall but when I click to convert and the to extrude the are no holes. I shtere any mistake I made.

Okey, I could use some help as well. While texturing my building I noticed a lot of textures going haywire. After some time I discovered the texture works fine on the normal pieces, but the pieces I mirrored are completely messed up. See here. Is there an easy way to fix it? Or do I have to redo the mirrored parts? I hope not! Thanks in advance.

LittleWhiteButterlfy: think I already told you about Random ID Material scripts, not sure if there are specific scripts for gmax maybe the some of the scripts for max will work. At least that is the way to go in max, besides there is a build-in random option for sub-material that comes with 3ds max 2011.

Hi again Harishna, in fact I had asked here first but got no notifications of reply, so I tried the thread where you actually replied. Sorry for the double posting! :P

And how about the problem with mirroring? I see I'm not the only one who gets textures all messed up when mirroring objects. Unfortunately that happens both when assigning textures before or after mirroring. To go around the problem, I usually rotate rather then mirroring, but it's much more work. Can you help?

    The mirroring problem is a known bug. If you go to Tools>Mirror the glitch will happen. If you apply the Mirror modifier instead, it will work. So in other words the Mirror tool is broken, but the Mirror modifier works correctly.

    You need to weld the vertices. So you select the overlapping vertices and click WELD on the scroll-down menu. Now you have one spline so you can extrude.

    Hello I have a small problem. My grid in perspective view (gmax) disapppeared. I right clicked on perspective and the "show grid" is ticked on...so how can I get my grid back? :D

    edit: it seems that I can't work in perspective...if I move a object in perspective I don't see the moved object until I release the button...thats strange since it didn't happen before...any idea whats wrong?

    edit: solved it...just switched between 2 views and problem solved

    Where you see Perspective top left hand of the screen right click on it and select Texture Correction. :D You can right click that area don't matter what the name is weather it's perspective, right, left, top or bottom. :D

    I'm having a Problem with Gmax. I downloaded it and Installed it but when i go to Use it I cant find it anywhere. On my Desktop, in the Start Menu not even in my documents... Any Ideas?

    First of all if you plan to use it for BAT you need to instal BAT itself. Then you'll get shortcut on your desktop which you would need to use to start program.

    It will actually start GMAX, but in the process it will also load all necessary scripts that would enable you to make SC4 models.

    How do I download the BAT from there? It leads me to the Terms of Use thing but theres no where where i tick a box and say Next or Download BAT. Any Ideas?

    Probably a really simple question: how can I view textured/filled in shapes in the other three viewports (front/left/top, I think)? I'm continuing to texture my building and I think I found something that never got an extra shape to be textured.

    I want to install BAT, but Maxis won't let me until I create an account. I did that but they won't send me an activation email. It's been a year. Any suggestions?

    Zelgadis File Archive is your best friend.

    Also, another problem of mine:

    I think those gray bars on this backside are conflicting textures (not sure, though), but as for the rectangle in the back (supposed to be a garage door), I thought I followed all the instructions for texturing it as a garage door, but it still shows up as gray! Arrgh.

    I assume those "gray bars" you mean these:

    if that is the case than you have here so called coplanar surfaces - areas occupying exactly same coordinates. As a result viewport can't make up "it's mind" which surface to show.

    General rule of "good modeling" is to always avoid coplanars. If your geometry has depth then use snaps to arrange it properly, or keep it planar - et with no depth at all (like planes, for instance)

    Actually, I was referring to the actual back of the structure, which is facing the front (I know, it's confusing). But I am aware of Z-axis conflicts (I used SketchUp for a while), and that will fix pretty easily.

    Hey guys,

    I was trying to import Scipio's escalator model in BAT, and every time it turns up white with no textures. When I apply a UVW Map, and try to add a texture... it still stays white.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    I assume it also shows up white in preview render?

    This may be a dumb question, but did you try merging it with a fresh scene, remembering to select only geometry?

    Yes, it does show up white, and no I didn't try that... but I should. :P I'll let ya know what happens with that. :)

    Double check that the paths in the bitmaps are correct in all the materials.

    Also, if it was made for max and it doesn't use the Standard material type (the only one gmax has) gmax might get confused or something (I don't know what happens), although if that's the case, when you apply a new material to it that shouldn't matter.

    Thanks for your reply... I might just ditch it though, as it adds about 9,000 polys to my model. :P

    But I'll still play around with it for learning's sake. :D

    Sorry for the double post... but....

    I imported the escalator into a new scene and it looked fine! :) Then I merged my station into it. I merged Geometry and groups and lights, but not cameras. The escalator looked fine, but my station was black. So, I reset the lights and cameras and that's when the escalator turned white instead of the normal textures.

    So, does this change how we evaluate this problem at all?

    Can someone please point out to me how to properly export my KFC? I tried following what it says on the Bat4max v5 thread but got confused. Can I get a list of clearer steps? So I can show what my KFC looks like in sim city :)
