Welcome to the official thread of the new Simtropolis Map and Logo Service.  We are happy to fill any requests you may have if you need a transit map for your CITY JOURNAL .  Each member will decide which type of networks they want to map (ie subway, ferry, rail, monorail, airports etc.)  Logos can be made for transit maps, city journals etc.

How To Request A Map Or Logo

To request a map for your city journal, please send a PM to the individual member who you would like to create the map or logo.  Below I have assembled a collection of samples from some of our members.  As I get more examples, they will be posted.

As said, earlier, I will add examples as they come in.  In the meantime, just look at the examples and select the one you like, then PM that member.  Note that individual members may not be available for extended periods of time.  In that case, either wait or select a different member.

so are you guys not only doing maps but logos? and if we do want a logo, does it have to be a CJ? or could it be a BAT team?

We are also doing logos and it can be a BAT team.  Sorry for the very late reply.  To all new CJers we are still awaiting requests for CJ transit map requests.  Logos can be made for things other than CJ's.

Just a reminder that the ST Map and Logo Service is still up and running. We recently did a logo for a Simlympic bid and another subway map and are waiting for more requests so don't be hesitant.

The following is how I would prefer something be sent to me. I don't how others want it sent to them, but you can always PM them and find out.

For MAPS:

What I would suggest you do is draw a basic design of your map in a simple program (Paint is one that quickly comes to mind) or even picture of a transportation map from in game, with some minor labeling (obviously we don't know what you have your stations named) and the city's name or transportation networks name. The also say if you already have a logo for it in mind (if you want one) or if you want one made. Next, if there is a certain city's transit map (like how I based mind kinda off of the London Underground and Toronto) give us a link or picture of said transit map. And last, PM all that over.

For example, my city is named Timbervale, however, the elevated/subway system is named MetroRail. Since I've based the map loosely on the actual ingame system, i took a in game picture of the rail system map and, with a little artistic creativity, went from there.

For LOGOS:

Obviously, if you have a basic design you want followed, make a quick drawing of what you want. It would also help to know if its for a company, a city, a sports team, etc. Also, a name for the logo would REEEEEALY be appreciated.

For example, Tricomm is a telecommunications company, so i wanted something that would be easily recognizable with a tech theme to it. However, I wanted to still keep the logo simple. The basic design was a globe with stars inside to a T-shape and three colors, blue purple and teal green. Last, I'm planning on using the logo in a TV promo for my CJ set in the semi-present, so I wanted something like what you can find in a current day TV commercial.

Obviously, I wouldn't want to just start from scratch on something just to be told it wasn't really what you were wanting in the first place. Just like in real life graphics design, communication is the key to getting exactly what you want out of the artist for the best effect.

In return for designing something, and just like I've required everyone else I've done any sort of Photoshopping for, give me some credit for the design (Don't believe me, just ask about how cranky I get when its not there). I put a lot of creativity and thought into everything I do, and try to make it into a piece of art, and by doing so, take extreme pride in it.

And lastly, don't complain when I haven't gotten it done immediately after you asked for it. I have a life ( a rather busy one I might add, what with school, working in a hosital, having a life outside the computer, etc) and other projects on my plate (see: Capathia Short Stories/Carpathia II (artwork) and Timbervale (author/artist)) and those projects are going to come first no matter what. But you would be surprised how asking nicely if I can rush something through will speed things along.

I have to say, if anyone needs photoshopping services, these are the guys to turn to. I know from personal experience, they made that Redding 2010 logo, as well as a subway map and a transit logo for me.

 Well like I said before (Wait.... after double checking I didn't.... my bad) I plan on eventually taking videos of some of the projects I get when they come in (only two so far as of writing this) and posting them into Youtube and maybe attaching them along with the finished product.

My reasons for posting videos instead of a written tutorial are many, but let me boil it down to the simple version. Typing out a tutorial is, well, bloody tedious, and then has to be re-read and tested out on guinea pigs before the finished product can ever see the light of day. Whereas the video is nice, simple, one go, and you can literally see everything I do, so no need to ask, "Wha... who.... wait, how did that happen???"

Right now, there is only one reason I can think of that I'm a little hesitant to post videos, or even just plain old tutorials, on here. And that reason is software. Not everyone has the same Photoshop. I personally have Photoshop CS4. Which does a lot more than CS3, CS2, 7, etc. Also, I have a feeling a lot of people are going to try and do the same thing with GIMP, or request specialized tutorials just for GIMP, which, sad to say, I'm not able to do for time and sanity reasons (who  really wants to learn two programs when one would more than suffice?)

So, hopefully I answered your question. I think. Looking back on the long essay I've just written, I think I may have rambled a bit...
