In addition to FavreKev, I've started experimenting with removing some of the game files, and I've found that you can remove into.dat. While it's only 17 megs, it might help you load your game faster if you have little memory to play with.

Citizen Sim,

Good idea. I also think disabling the introduction movie would free a little bit more.

You can just add the command line parameter to your shortcut -intro: off

note there is no space between the colon and the o, it just won't let me type it here without putting a smiley in.

I'm going to expose my computer illiteracy, but how exactly do I change the shortcut command line?  I'd love to stop the startup movie from playing.

Does anyone know of a way to get game start without CD in the drive?

I don't want to keep it there all the time and generally move it much about.

    Plus all the noise...

I used to do it with disk image and Alkohol (software not a drink ;-) ), but I don't use Alkohol anymore and the same image wouldn't work with say PowerISO.

Also image itself is (even in DAA standard) about 600Mb.

I know of it but I don't want have too many this type of software, since in may in some cases cause all sort of trouble.

I actually experienced such problems once and had to reinstall the whole system.

Actually it is better to put a suffix into the command line of your SC4 shortcut. And that shortens the load, by the intro, as there is no intro. I guess it won't load it up too.

Good ol' Liberty Islands! Someday, I'll repost my old CJ.

    SimFox: oh, sorry. I understand.

j2dap: on my computer it is under F:\games\SC4 , I just renamed it to intro.datBAK , to be sure. If something goes wrong, I could just rename the file 2.gif

    take care,

j2dap, on most pc's it would be in c:\program files\maxis\sc4 , so NOT the plugins folders. And it looks like, well, like a file, called intro.dat. good luck!

I would like to add something that might be usefull for somebody sometimes about the intro file:

Some time ago I had to format my disc and with that I was left with only basic drivers and driver for grafic card. I tryed to play SC4 but the game crashed to desktop every time I started to. Then I noticed that I am missing driver for sound card and for top of that I was temporarily without internet connection so I was doomed. But then I began thinking about it and well, I tryed deleting Intro. Now I got to the region view without any problem. But when I was there after about 30 second game again crashed. Since I realy dont know about programs and all kinds of command lines I just went in again and quickly disabled all sounds. The game run normaly after that.

I wanted to tell this just for the case that if this happend to somebody that doesnt know much about this stuff can at least play the game without sounds.

Easy, just right click on your Sim City Shortcut (the one on the desktop or in the start menu) and go to Properties.

In the Target field it should list the path to SimCity4.exe.  At the very end add any flags you want.  Make sure there is a space before the flags.

Very easy to play without the disc.

    1. Go to gamecopyworld.com

    2. enter the n.american site

    3. search under "N-S" or something like that.

    4. Go to sc4deluxe

    5. click the blue drive that says "SimCity 4: Deluxe Edition v1.1.638 [ENGLISH] No-CD/Fixed EXE"

    5. Click on one of the mirror dls.

    6. enjoy the creepy pictures of girls while your download completes.

    7. Open the winrar file

    8. go to my computer/programfiles/maxis/simcity4deluxe

    9. open up the APPS folder

    10. drag the downloaded simcity 4.exe file into the apps folder replacing the original simcity4.exe file

    11. use whatever shortcut command you were using and game will load

The game should work without any complications. Works great for me. I never use the disk to run games in fear of scratching them up.

Y'all also know that if you just hit escape when the music starts right after "EA Games" it skips the intro.
