simmars-forum-threads BETA 2 - Final steps

BETA 2 is coming to it's last round before the release. As of what l can say now that's to be done left:

- removing all people animations

- replacing trees with rocks

- getting farms to grow. That means farms with field tiles and farms with lot only. BATs are available, the growable lots need to be created

- crucial is to have at least one school ready, right now there is none, so we need a school!

- not so crucial are more commercial lots, low & medium growth stages. BETA 2 of course will only give the basics for the mod to be added with BATs and will not be a finished product, but for commercial lots we have very few right now.

- the installer needs to be programmed

- also if possible all transportation systems that have not been transformed to SimMars yet should not be able to built (either icon remove or disabled completely)

If anyone can help out with these points, great!

Well, I'm sure some of the people on here should be able to help. I do not know BAT, but I am trying to mod different things.

Well, I am trying to become a better modder at the moment, but I will need to study ID's and know where to find all the right data. Also, the shade of red can be changed, just contact me if you want that to happen, it would also be best if you could suggest a color if you don't like it.

    There is a mod that removes all maxis buildings which will be used in simmars. Growable buildings all are removed, but some reward type buildings aren't. We will try to discover a solution before BETA 2 comes out.

    Ok, I almost got the zones done. The commercial zones for awhile weren't showing up while you were dragging it. It happens that the opacity was full transparency. Anyway, I got it fixed now. The only problem I have now is the industrial being white. If you see in the picture the white zone on the top right. The zones are different. Agriculture, medium industry, and high industry are all there but you can't tell the difference. I will have to adjust the white a little for them to appear different. I hope you like it so far! Oh, low density commercial almost looks similar to dense industry on maxis's original zone colors. ---crazykid4simcity---

    Ok, I want to see if you like this one. I just thought of it and gave it a go. The zones on the left are medium industrial, the bottom is dense, and the top is agriculture. ---crazykid4simcity---

    Looking good 4.gif Can you download the red terrain texture in the BAT workshop thread to see how it looks with the red surface and then post a pic? Thanks. I like the greens! Would use it for commercial though. The yellow looks too much like the original residential (at least from the screenshot). The white is cool too. Can you make a set of white and greys for Industry?

    I took a picture of the zones on mars and I think it looks good. If you want the colors changed just say so. Oh, by the way, the zone colors are blue even though it does look green4.gif. The high density of the commercial is almost like a green, but it does resemble it and can be changed. The densities are left, low density, right high density, and top medium density. And, as I said before if you want the colors changed just say so. I know you said it in your last post, but it wasn't on mars terrain, so I will wait a little bit.     I have a hard time distinguishing the low and medium industry. Can you get more contrast there? Maybe adding a white if possible? If not We could assigne a completely different color for Ind-Agrar. But the grey looks good for industry. For the yellow commercial zones I still think they resemble the original color too much, there might be confusion over the colors (yellow is assigned to industry in original). Another option would be to assign white/grey to commercial and yellow to industry (similiar to original color). I kinda liked the green-blue, could you make a set of them and post a screen shot with red terrain? Let's go from there then, ok? Thanks 4.gif

    This is the simmars terrain. Also, I am going to put industry as white through gray and the aqua colors for the commercial. I am also trying to configure the colors for the zone map, but it is a little hard to do so. I will eventually get it though. The reason you see water is because I have a water color changing mod and forgot to take it out on the picture. It would also be good for the BETA 2 installer not mess up the games music from not playing when simmars is uninstalled. I had to reinstall my game last night. 15.gif Let's hope the problem can be fixed. I also don't have a clue to configure installers so fukuda will have to do that one. ---crazykid4simcity---

    What was the problem? 

    I have some news: I figured out how to make the growable farms after all. Only the farms with tiles I didn't get yet. Here have a look, models by Outdoorsman (domes) and prepo (pyramids)

    Ok, sorry for my last post. I was zipping all over since I was in a rush and didn't make sense. The problem that some people were having (including me) was when simmars BETA 1 was uninstalled from the system (assuming that BETA 1 is installed already) and the music wouldn't play automatically when you are in the game. You would have to manually play each song. The only way to fix the problem is to reinstall the game which I had to do15.gif. Let's hope the problem is fixed in the next BETA. I don't know anything about configuring installers so either fukuda could do that or someone who has experience in configuring installers. Ok, that was basically a rephrase of what I wanted to say in my last post. Sorry again for the gibberish. Anyway, I configured the colors for the zone mod. Commercial is violet purple. Industrial is white through black even though it doesn't look like it. I included Karakus's red residential zone colors to show the difference. If you don't like the commercial color, which you might not like, I can always change it. ---crazykid4simcity---

    Ok, thanks for further explaining. I will keep that in mind. BETA 2 will get an own installer. Let's make sure this problem won't be there again.

    In the zip folder I have: Marszonecolorsedited and test zone colors. The test zone colors is the updated one. The industrial zones for the Mars file is that the zones all look the same even with different sets of whites. The updated file has agriculture, white, medium industry, gray, and high industry, black. It doesn't look like these colors, but the game doesn't seem to give their full orginal color.     Ok, crazykid, here's the story:

    When I tried the zone colors with SimMars BATs ingame it became obvious that anything colorfull like the violet doesn't really work. It looks just awkward with the rest of the buildings. So that rules out the blue-green option as well.

    The red-orange-white set fits the best to SimMars. We will keep this.

    However a change needs to be made. The white/grey looked great in your pic. When I tried it the variations between the zones were very much less siginficant however. This is because you seem to have tested in high altitude ingame (lighter basetexture), I tested in a regular altitude. Have a look.

    As you can see there is almost no difference visible between high industry and bland terrain. So this doesn't really work unfortuantely. 

    So what I want to do is leave the MAXIS yellow zone color for industry (they work very well with SimMars anyway) and change the commercial to white/grey. The difference will be much more visible with the zone edges.

    To see what I mean have a look here:

    The colors inside the zones are not very different but at the edges you see the real difference according to with which color the zone was set up. You know what I mean?

    So my request is please make the commercial zones white (low), medium-light grey (medium) and, since black doesn't work out, medium grey for "high" and leave the industry as is by MAXIS.
