Oh, Canada

Our home and native land

True patriot love in all thy sons com....

Hehe, very strange to hear from a Spanish that has never been to Canada singing the Canadian himn, no?

    Honeymoon

    update91oz5.jpg

    *Snooooore*

    *Snoooooooore*

    *Snooooooooooore*

Andrew: Jessica!  Jessica!  Wake up!  We're in New Kingston.

New Kingston is a small City, smaller than Borden.  Its on the central part of Shetland Island, which is about 231 kilometers big.  Criston wasnt on Shetland Island, but right on the strait where it meets the mainland of Canada.  Anyways, New Kingston was just a little farming city, about twenty thousand less people than Borden.  Its about 70 000 people.  Bordens is about 90 000.  We were just going through a little coastal area with some farms and a residential area nest to us.  Mountains were off in the distance.

    Jessica: Muuh...

Andrew: Okay then...Ill keep driving then...

    Hours Later

Jessica's awake now.  Were at the end of Shetland Island.  We juust got out of the toll booth for the bridge and customs.  The bridge goes to Criston in Canada.  The strait was pretty long.  If you really looked hard, you could see a skyline through the haze!  Bigger than Borden, I can tell you that!  The customs and toll booth had three really shiny metallic spires.  Man they were bright in the sun!  I guess they were there to warn you that the booth was coming up...or they got solar power from it!

    update92pz3.jpg

When you look back on it, you realise theres a light on it along with the sun reflecting.

    Andrew:

Man...that is one loooong bridge.  Look!  You can see Criston!

Jessica: Where---Ohh!  I didn't think it was that big!  Last time I was there it wasnt!  Man, its really grown up!

A lot of the buildings in Criston were built later than 2000 because of the big office boom.

    update93vz4.jpg

The highway turned a 90 degree angle when you got off the bridge.   We were actually going through a wooded area!  You could really see the skyline now!  It towered over anything in the view!  A large sign passed by and said

    Luna Park

We make sure to keep our wildlife safe.  We keep 16 meters of clearance from the forest.

Keep Criston Clean - Do not litter

Andrew: Wildlife my butt...how bigs this park anyway!  Weve been going for ages...

    Jessica: Its been 3 minutes...

Andrew: Oh...Hehe...Heres an exit into the city!  Wanna go walk around?  I have the address to our hotel in my pocket.

Jessica: Oh I cant wait till I see the hotel room!  It better be nice!  Hehehe!

    Andrew: Oh, its nice...Its nice...*wink*

Jessica: Whoa...is that a drop ride?

We passed by Mark Anthony Pearson

Park (MAPP for short).  It was a huge theme park right outisde Criston.  Kind of in the part where its still urban, but theres suburbs all around you.

    update94um0.jpg

Jess had seen the Drop Zone.  A HUGE tower where the seats go up to the top on the outside and then after what seems hours they drop you!  Then it slows down right at the bottom.

Their logo looked exactly like a Texas flag...odd...

    ...

We finally got into the city.  We drove up a street right by a big old building.

Andrew: Whats that sign say...City Hall left.  Oh that must be the City Hall!  Nice...

    update95cc3.jpg

Jessica: Ritz Carlton...would you be planning on turning in there...?

    Andrew:

    Nope!

    Jessica: Oh...

Andrew: Dont worry, where were going is way better!

    Jessica:

    Yes!!!

I could see the hotel from here.  Why not walk around first!  Hehe...

    update96er0.jpg

So we parked on the street RIGHT in front of our hotel!  Then we walked down to the waterfront, and bought some cinnamon buns.  Mmmm...

We window shopped, and did all the stuff we would back home then we walked up the street behind our hotel.  I learnt on the internet that the tallest building in Borden was on this street.  It was one of two buildings called Standard Insurance Center.  The wereon a big plaza.

    update97es3.gif

So we walked on to the plaza.  Man it was crowded and there was nothing interesting there, so we left.

It was gonna get dark out soon.  So we walked up onto the street where we parked.

Then I stopped right in front of the hotel.  She kept walking and noticed I had stopped.

    update98if5.gif

Jessica: What did you stop for?

    Andrew:

    Won't you come in?

Jessica looked up.  She looked waaay up.  The building...or skyscraper we were standing next to was our hotel.  The Delta Criston.  They had the most ritzeyest, most romantic honeymoon suites EVER!  And Jessica saw the big Delta sign at the top.

Jessica: Youre not serious.  Oh my god youre not serious!  Oh my god!  Lets check in!

    Andrew: Okay!

    ...

It was dark out now.  We had checked in to our room, which was on the fourth highest floor.  It was odd to think that on the third tallest building in Criston there was only 3 floors above us!

    update99ja7.gif

Our suite was humongous.  Thats the way to describe it.  Just amazingly giant.  Almost bigger than our apartment!  Im beginning to love it here in Criston...

Loving Criston! I admire how quickly you put this together as well, I believe you mentionned two days ago it would be awhile before you update because you had to build another city!? The plaza in front of the Insurance building reminds me of Assumption Place in Moncton. In case I didn't mention it this update, great work as always!

Mayor of Tempest Lake - Thanks!

sEAhAwk fAn121 - Thanks, but the bridge is a movie set hypothetically.  All I did was open anew city, add a gorge with a river, and add the bridge and toll booth with some flora!  nothing else is there.  At all.  most of the region is flat plains of never-been-opened cities!

porter66083 - Thank you, and they are!  2.gif

    Hawkeye9 - Thanks alot!

asturianu - Its no problem for such a hardcore fan like you 3.gif  ca.gif WOOT!

fledder200 - Thank you very much, your comments are always so nice 9.gif

jacqulina - Thank you!  Im so suprised that everyone likes how I build things!  9.gif

    GMT - Thanks, Im a GIF-aholic!

rw0381c - Funny, thast the exact look I was aiming for!   That, and the World Trade Center plaza (Pre 911 34.gif).  Thanks for commenting as always!

Schulmanator - They sure did!  Thanks.

    mjig_dudy - Thanks.

tbone04044 - Are you serious?  I never thought I'd be THAT good!

Benedict - Thanks!  The feedback here is really something awesome!

Im going to try to add more photoshop to this CJ.  As this is the tenth update, I think it is well deserved!  9.gif

    Rollercoaster!

    update101pg4.jpg

    Jessica: Wow...look, Andrew...the sunrise...

    Andrew: It's really beautiful...

    Jessica: Yeah...really pretty...

    ...

    update102dz7.jpg

"Good morning Criston, this is Jane Dupree on 106.9 Capital FM.  It is currently 9 degrees celsius, forecasts show todays will reach a high of 19 degrees, and a low of 8 later this evening.  Smog will be an issue today, levels have risen since yesterday and the air quality in downtown is very poor.  The air will turn a shade of greyish-green and we advise people with severe breathing difficulties to stay in fresh air as much as they can."

    ...

Andrew: Here in the hotel brochure it says that theres an amusement park museum in the short part on that huge building over there.

Jessica: Which huge building...theres like...fifty in this little block!

    Andrew:

That one over there past the Standard Insurance thingy.

    Jessica:

Okay, it sounds cool.  First we should go down to the resteraunt, I hear they have cinnamon buns!

    Andrew: Im so there!

    ...

    update103us9.jpg

Jessica: So is this the building?

Andrew: Yeah I think...Oh, there's a sign!  It says to go in the door on the other side of the building.

Jessica: Dude...there's like...no one out here at all...

Andrew: Yeah I know...kind of creepy.  But the radio said to keep in fresh air as much a possible...so people might be inside.

Jessica: Great!  That much more crowded...

Andrew: Okay, heres the entrance.  Man...the tall part past that dome is massive!  And it really is green out!

    update104de3.jpg

    ...

Jessica: The MAPP exhibit...isn't MAPP the park that we passed driving here?

    Andrew:

Yeah, it looks cool, lets check it out.  Oh they've got aerial photos from the opening day!  Looks like it was cloudy...

    update1094qf4.jpg

Andrew: It says it used to be called Astroland...that would explain why that woodie says 'Astroland' on it...

    BONUS PIC!

    update1096ok6.jpg

This was taken where downtown and old downtown meet.  Criston is very historical in some parts, just because of barricaders in the 70's building boom.  You can see the Standard Insurance Center's twin towers on the bottom, and the new construction site to renew the waterfront.

Excellent use of the MAPP downloads released just recently, and also the Modular Water Park from way back! Simply love the storyline!

I'm using your CJ as well as those of nedal2001( The Land of Shamsia , Longines , Levante ), and louisville327(Adventures In New Urbanism, Eureka! --- Planning For The Future) as inspiration for my most recent stab at a city. I want that small/mid-sized city feel, and you’ve all nailed some aspect or another of what I like about that type of city!

    Great update as usual!

    Announcement!

I was thinking yesterday abouthow this CJ barely focuses on Borden anymore.  These last few updates have been in Criston, and the other few were in various places.  So what I was thinking is...

    A NAME CHANGE!!!!

So whadda ya think?  If I ever do, Im still not sure what to name it, but it should be something cheesy like 'The Adventures of Andrew and Jessica' or somethning dumb...I thought this because the CJ is still named Borden, but when newcomers to this CJ come on and see a huge city (Criston) theyre gonna think thast borden and theyre gonna get all confused and then not come here so I want this to have an appropriate name for the content.

So Im setting up a poll on the first page

and I wish for everyone to vote.  Theres a yes and a no.  Pick either one!

IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS, PLEASE POST THEM HERE!!!

THE WINNER OF THE NAME WILL GET 3 SEASON PASSES TO MARK ANTHONY PEARSON PARK (MAPP) IN CRISTON TO SHARE WITH THEIR BEST SIMTROPOLIANS!!

Eh, (coming from Florida) I've seen several people get a realistic tropical look, but yeah, if your going for an upper North American look, you nailed it! 4.gif

Very nice amusement park btw, I'm going to make my own soon and you gave me a few ideas on how to go about it. 4.gif

This is totally dumb ... but how about: "Cinnamon Bun Chronicles: The travels of Andrew and Jessica". It just seems to be a recurring theme in your storyline!

I really wish Borden could keep its name, but yeah...

Anyways, I just wanted to mention this:  Classes are starting tomorrow (Monday, January 8) and sadly, I wont be updating near as much.  At all!  I probably will update twice a week?  Maybe a lot less.  I dont know, just hang in there, updates are about to come slow.  Thanks for commenting, everyone!
