Port Royal

NOTE: Some of you have probably noticed several references to problems I've been having getting the game to run on my new machine. After trying everything I could, and talking with Dell, the local dealer and the video card manufacturer I still was getting game crashes. I've finally just emptied my region and plug-in folders and am starting from scratch, with a new region rendered on the new machine, and slowly adding plug-ins a few at a time. So far no crashes.

So here is my new region "Port Royal". A quick look at the city center to give you a feel for the region. Port Royal sit at the end of a broad valley which fronts a long narrow bay. The city currently has about 23,000 residents.

Up-date 1:

Downtown Port Royal  is a collection of various building types, and tend to be dense near the river area. Here is one neighborhood NW of downtown.

Because of it's location and importance as a shipping point,  downtown sports some large buildings for a city it's size.

South of the center several large retailers have located, helping to keep commercial activity close to town. A Super Target, Food Lion and Costco anchor the strip.

Nice start rewright. I can see a history developing before my very eyes. A very nice downtown, though it is small btw. It actually suits the city very well.

Update 2:

A quick update to show how the city proper looks like. Farms are being added on the outskirts, inter-mingled with new subdivisions. 32,000 folks now live in Port Royal.

Update 3:

In an effort to keep and enhance the downtown core, the city has created waterfront park which includes a observation tower, museum, soccer stadium and walking trails.

The convention center hosts a variety of events, from trade shows to rock concerts.

Old Fort tower is a popular spot for residents and visitors alike. The museum features a large collection of native artifacts.

Downtown continues to add office space as new  businesses and residents move into the area.

Government Center overlooks the port and harbor.

Update 3:

The city radiates outward through the farm land that blankets the valley floor. A master plan is being drawn up to encourage developers to build on the cleared land and leave the hedge rows in tact, providing buffers between the different subdivisions.
