NAM sinkhole

The other day I was reconstructing an interchange made of avenue and one way road puzzle pieces. I was placing a One-Way road ramp that would act as an off-ramp from a new freeway, when this incredible thing happened. A SINKHOLE FORMED RIGHT BEFORE MY EYES!!! 42.gifI even have a picture of it, but i don't know how to upload pictures. If someone tells how me I gladly post it. Anaway the sinhole was clearly a glitch: it formed instantly and part of the off ramp was part of it. Worse it wouldn't go away; I tried everything short of a disaster but it stayed put. I just want to alert everyone of a possible glitch in the NAM.

Heh.  I believe it.  Happened to me too, a long time ago.  3.gif  I think you can't get rid of it easily.  As far as I know, it punches a hole all the way through the bottom of your terrain.

It never happend to me but to post pictures. Open the picture in paint or whatever program you use. Then save it as a .JPEG file, Host the image OFFSITE (tinypic.com works well, so does photobucket.) Then in the 'reply to message window', click the 'insert/edit image' button by the "smilies(Face)" Insert the URL in the selected box(Top). Lastly, click the 'OK' Button. And there you go..

Sorry I can't help you with your random sinkhole. Hope it gets sorted.

Hello Citimaster, and welcome to Simtropolis. I would perfer you show the pics. Here's what you do:

1. Go to a image hosting website. This one (Photobucket) is my favorite.

2. Create a free acount.

3. Next time you get on and sign in, go to my album. From there you can upload your pictures.

4. Now, when you're in my album, there will be a box on the right that has a button that says        "Browse" and one that says "Upload". Don't do anything yet.

5. When you're ready to upload, make sure that you're on your computer. (the computer with the pics that you are going to show) Now, click on the "Browse" button. This should bring up a new window. Go to: My Docs, SimCity4, Albums, (The name of the city), then the picture. Then open it.

6. Now, once you open the picture, click on the "Upload" button.

7. You're done with the first part. Now, the page should re-load, and a new page should come up with your Picture.

8. Under your picture, there should be three different listings. One will say URL. The next will say Tag. The last one will say Img. Look at the one that says Img.

9. Whenever you post, there will be a little button with a mountain and a sun on it. This is the image button. Now, you hav two options, Option 1) Highlight the stuff next to URL in Photobucket. Click on the image button when you are about to paste. in the empty bar under URL in the new window, paste (Ctrl+V) the URL from Photobucket. Click OK. Option 2) On Photobucket, highlight and copy the stuff next to the Img. Go back to what you were typing in the forums (this counts for almost any forum). Do not click the image button! just simply paste that onto the post.

Don't do this:

Blah blah blah Simlympics-1.jpg

Do this always:

Blah blah blah

Simlympics-1.jpg

I tend to press Enter in between pics.

This is what it looks like when you press enter:

Simlympics-1.jpg

Simlympics-1.jpg

This is what happens when you don't:

And this is just as bad:

Well, that should be it. I hope you solve your problem, and if you have any problems, send me a private message. Click on my picture (the donkey) and choose to send me a PM.

Hope you fix your problem. Cheers. 4.gif

BTW, sorry if I mispelled anything. I'm too tired to proofread.

Ah yes, the bottomless pit.

Unfortunately there's no fix for it. Thankfully it's not common...

weird it wouldnt go away I got rid of one by cheating and going to god mode terrain tools and ironing it out with that.

Maybe it depends on the situation?

This has happened to me on multiple occasions. All I do is cheat into God Mode to smooth it out. They can be kind of pesky sometimes and not flatten, though.

You should see what happens when a car goes on it. Wheee!!

Okay, Here's what you've all been waiting for...

    ChinatoeCity-Dec.jpg

I tried God mode tools to get rid of it, but it didn't budge in the slightest.

And it was, in fact, as deep as is could possibly be.

Same happens to me once awhile. I bulldoze the road and let the sinkhole be a part of my city. It makes a nice little lake. Sometimes for me, it happens twice, but I let it be as always. But it does suck badly to have it done to you. Good luck.

pretend it was a real sinkhole and those bureaucrats haven't filed the correct forms yet or the forms haven't been approved oo the forms have been approved but have been either lost, found, lost again, found...again...then buried underground for 100 years.

    First post...

Actually, this sinkhole is not permanent. It can be solved by the God Mode tools, however, in some cases it is extremely difficult to fix it because the radiused leveler seems to only affect a certain point of the tile. You may have to rotate the views or put the cursor over different tiles to find the position where it will affect the hole.

For me, it has happened two times, and both times were when I was on very low ground, near sea level. I wonder if that could be a factor in creating the hole...

Thankfully I saved before I started the road work ( I do any time i modify my road systems, in case my little "Highway Projects" don't work out the way I thought they would) so I restored the old file and the sinkhole is gone. And, I replaced my complicated interchange with something a little more "simple."

Luckily, the NAM didn't mess up this time. If any of the NAM's programmers are reading this post, I suggest that you get rid of that sinkhole glitch and release a new version of the NAM. Oh, and see that little dead end sidestreet near the top of the picture? The end of it is just about where the sinkhole was.

God mode tools. Use the quick level brush on a one or two. Three if you don't have anything important nearby. It might take a minute.

I can always get rid of it without God Mode, its just a little tricky, and you gotta find the "sweet" spot that'll affect it..

Yes, it's not actually that hard to get rid of it with your Mayor Mode terrain tools. Play with the elevation and the levelling one.

I might be wrong, but I think the problem occurs when you are attaching a ground-to-raised piece or an "off-ramp" to the raised NAM pieces. If you just place the g-to-r piece alone, the sinkhole won't happen, but sometimes if you place it so it connects to the raised puzzle piece, BAM, sinkhole. The solution is to place the g-to-r piece and then build the raised puzzle pieces towards it to connect, not the other way around.
