MayorTim      Thanks! I like to keep it fun!

edipo_rey        Thanks for coming by. I appreciate your comment. Glad you like it.

SimsPlanet2       Thanks for coming by. I enjoy reading as much as writing CJs. So, I will be back to yours and the rest soon!

sc4portugal        I appreciate your coming by. The Schulminions are honored to have a street in their honor. They'll have something Portuguese in one of their cities soon to reciprocate. Soon, when they find the edge of the map, they will meet new Sims. Then they can come and visit yours.

st louis dude      Thanks for your nice comments. It is not over yet. Au contraire, it's only started!

    Schulmanicus: To Infinity & Beyond!

This newfound prosperity and increased education led this tribe of Sims to explore both the physical world around them as well as the spiritual world. Religion had been somewhat low key until the construction of the Thankfulness Shrine at the end of the Tomato Scare. The hill chosen for the shrine became a popular place to reflect and ponder the universe. Soon, the added Schulmanian wealth was channeled into construction of new houses of worship. A temple complex was developed on what became the sacred hill. The sacred hill and temple complex are shown below.

    templecomplex1dd2.jpg

The original gray stone Thankfulness Shrine is shown in the center on the sacred precinct. At the foot of the hill is St. Simuel Church. Behind the Thankfulness Shrine is St. Simon Church. The large temple at the pinnacle of the sacred hill is St. Simeon Church. Further down, toward the sea, is St. Simbastian Church.

The lots include fine Roman temples by psycholu.

    templecomplex2ws6.jpg

The opposite view. St Simbastian is in the foreground and St Simeon is on the left. Only the roof of St. Simuel can be seen from this angle.

    templecomplex3hm6.jpg

From this angle, St. Simeon is in the foreground. With no electricity, night is still dark - very dark.

    templecomplex3hm6.jpg

Worshippers trek up the sacred hill to the temple precinct. Schulminions rapidly develop a rich spiritual life. The architectural style of these temples inspired many a Sim. As time progressed, civic structures began to mimic these structures all across Schulmanicus Island.

    templecomplex5ws6.jpg

Schulminions flocked to this worship center and brought many cyber offerings. Some of the funds were used to start construction on a magnificent temple on the cape near Busscastle. The fine edifice was to be named the Basilica of Felis Catus. Unfortunately, the contractor selected, a Mr. S. P. Arrow, was a bit flighty and came up with a grand design... on paper.

    templecomplex6bn7.jpg

St. Simuel was a popular first stop on the pilgrimage trail. It had several attractive elements. Its low elevation made it easy to access, which was handy for Schulminons in a hurry. Also, the priests validated parking for horses free.

    religioushorsestsimbastwg5.jpg

St. Simbastian was popular for Schulminions and animals too. Here, a horse can be seen climbing the temple's steps. St. Simbastian was a church where worshippers could pray and neigh.

This prosperity and added sense of exploration led to a massive new project. On the advice of the priests, the various town councils gathered together to discuss how to facilitate sea trade and exploration. A wise cat, as usual, had the solution. If a tower was built at the far end of the world (island) then ships could sail around without fear and even at night. This would open up new shipping lanes. Also, sailors, who were fearful of venturing far from land, would be able to see where they were and be ale to sail out further to explore. So, the great light tower was constructed.

    lighthouse1hd7.jpg

    lighthouse3ja5.jpg

The light tower was built at the far end of the world.

It was difficult to get all of that wood up to the top for the light. The first night it was finished, the light was not on. It took 3 weeks to haul enough wood up the 456 steps to get a good fire going.

    lighthousenightnj9.jpg

    lighthouse2xd3.jpg

Sims noticed non-native birds flying around the tower's pinnacle. That was when the idea first hit them: there must be more land out there somewhere!

    lighthouseboatforwhatiwey5.jpg

So, the boats were loaded up for a new mission: to explore strange new worlds and to go where no man has gone before...

For those of you who have done mosaic pix in your journals, I have a question. I understand how to reduce the border around ImageShack pix to 0 pixels, but what I am not sure about yet is how to get several pix to line up seamlessly. I would appreciate some guidance on how to get several pix to stitch together without seams or repetition. Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer.

Schulmanicus: Exploring a Brave New World

The intrepid explorers, the four famous captains who gained fame circumnavigating the world (Schulmanicus Island) started their quest for exploration at the lighthouse and at Stellport. Provisions had been stockpiled on all of the sailing ships covering the major food groups: chocolate, sugar, salt, and caffeine. A supply of mice was also loaded onboard each ship for the feline supervisors who would be joining the crew.

Work continued on the Basiilica of Felis Catus, located across a small bay from Busscastle. It was to be dedicated in honor of the great voyage.

    wewishyaluck1um2.jpg

    wewishyaluck2gv1.jpg

The Basilica was to have had a commanding view of the sea and served as an inspiration to passing ships. Unfortunately, design flaws and cost overruns led to an interminable construction phase. The Supreme Wirdle grew impatient and stopped construction, leaving the Basilica forever unfinished. As for the general contractor, Mr. S. P. Arrow, he was chased and eaten by the Supreme Wirdle herself.

Meanwhile, the ships were laden and the crews were ready. A big bon voyage party was thrown at each launch site. Almost everyone on the island crowded around the dock to watch the ships prepare to depart.

    andawaaaaaaaaaywegoyw2.jpg

The last of the ships of discovery pulls away from land, headed to parts unknown.

The voyage was underway. As the ships fanned out across the sea, they found a few small islets not far offshore. These were mere specks, hardly big enough to stand on. Then, they ventured far enough out to lose sight of land completely. The era of exploration had dawned.

Oooo, nice newspaper :-) Digital photography on papyrus? haha. I'm just kidding. I really like the whole historic feel. Very unique. Great CJ. I don't suspect you'll have too many pics of glass office towers and freeways in the coming posts, hahaha. Keep up the great work!

Zone_Seek         Thanks! As new discoveries are made, the map will expand up to eventually 48 large tiles, which I thought was big until I saw the new 3RR with 256!

ledge69         Thanks for your comment. They are set to make some big discoveries!!

Purpledaddy         Thanks for your comment. Glad you like what I have thus far. To remind you of Nexis puts me in good company! LOL for "Stell-aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!" Loved it!

blade2k5          I am glad you like what I have thus far. The Jr. Schulmanator and I have been hard at work on preparing the updates for the big discoveries to come.

sc4portugal       Thanks for your comment. I am glad you have liked Schulmania thus far. The Schulminions have decided to build a Portuguese style church in your honor. It will show up in a few updates. Hope you like it!

connor_v        Thanks for stopping by! Always glad to hear from you.

edipo_rey          Actually, that's sort of the plan. They will venture out and when they hit the edge of the map, that's when they will start finding other CJs to visit and explore and trade with (we currently have a surplus of chocolate, if there is such a thing!).

hamsterTK   Thanks! Glad you like the update. They are set to discover all sorts of new stuff! 1 tile down and 47 large ones to go!

Charles Rodulfo       Thanks for coming by again. Always glad to hear from you. Ya know, I was wondering what franchise would show up first in Schulmania. To be honest, I was not surprised when I started putting in growables. One of the first things that popped up was a Starbucks!

Purpledaddy       Ha! Can you get scurvy if you have all major food groups? What if you have chocolate-dipped fruit pieces? Wonder if that counts! Glad you like what Schulmania has so far! Come back for more! ?

UnkleS27    Thanks. Glad you stopped by Schulmania. Come back and track our exploration.

Giligone        Interesting, isn't it how a letter press with papyrus can make color digital copies? Hm, that sounds like another monkey-initiated anachronism!

Charles Rodulfo      Thanks for coming by. It is interesting how they have digital cameras in a medieval society, isn't it? At this rate of technological expansion, by the Renaissance they will have yePods to listen to and shun the coin of the realm for Master Card and Mistress Visa. Or, in the spirit of exploration, Schulmania may use the New World Express card or the Card of Discovery. Thou shalt keep secure thy PIN number!

Gurrgkud        Thank you! I am glad you like it. Only 1 out of 48 tiles has been explored yet, so there's a lot more to come!

Waerth       Thanks for coming by. The discoveries are coming up next. This will make headlines across Schulmania!

connor_v       Thanks! New updates coming soon!!

It'll be interesting to see what comes out of the exploration...

I just read through your story and I must say you are a great writer. Your civilization seems to be realistic, sort of a combination of the feudalism of Mediaeval times and the thirst for knowledge of the greeks, and there's just enough humor.

It's great to see that cats rule Schulmanicus - I'm a cat person.

Atkinos: The World Is Bigger Than We Thought

The sailing ships of the First Fleet passed so far out to sea that they were no longer able to see the light from the great light tower. The sailors were brave and they pressed on. They did not fear anything, but they did encounter some odd new creatures...

    charlietuna300cz3.gif

    sharktale05tx5.jpg

And they began to see this large creature surfacing on a frequent basis as they sailed further out:

    whale1bo1.jpg

    whale2pl5.jpg

    whale3kl7.jpg

The crew noticed that some areas were getting shallow. This led them to believe they were approaching land. As they looked out, they saw some unusual underwater rock formations.

    underwaterrox1jd5.jpg

The captain pressed on, though he was concerned that such strange rock formations may presage even more unusual terrain to come.

    underwaterrox2pi1.jpg

This didn't seem quite so strange. Maybe good land was close at hand after all.

    Then...

EUREKA! I think. Um, yeah, that's it. Land has been found at last! The world has grown! Unfortunately, these are the smallest islands ever created in the Sim universe, so these micro islands will serve only as tiny landmarks in the annals of exploration, not as a base for future growth and exploration.

    worldstiniestislands1xq1.jpg

    worlstiniestislands2as6.jpg

After basking a while in the excitement of finding new land, the explorers moved on. After all, these islands were really too small to even plant a flag upon. Of course, they didn't have a flag yet, either. They sailed the rest of the day and as the sun was setting, one crewmember in the crow's nest called out and said "Land ho!" He got a few skeptical glances, so he reiterated, "This time, it's big enough to walk on!" Then, the excitement began to mount. As the sun set, the lead ships, the Praline and the Godiva Truffle, approached the first substantial land ever discovered.

    rockysunsetiz2.jpg

The ships pulled up to the rocky shore as it was bathed in the red-orange glow of sunset. Campsites were established to spend the night. Animals around the island were surprised to see new occupants, but not alarmed.

    animalsatnightvr1.jpg

As the dawn broke, teams were sent out to explore the island and its surroundings. They were surprised to see how much rockier this land was than their own.

    rockyshoreatdaycw0.jpg

The small island was quickly explored. It was teeming with animals, many of whom were conveniently made of meat. A celebratory barbecue ensued before exploration continued.

    rockybeachde2.jpg

Beach party - succulent animals invited. BYOBB (the extra B is for Bring Your Own Bar B-Q sauce!).

    rockyshoreformationsie9.jpg

The strange rocks found along the shore were interesting. They were found to have traces of valuable metals in them, but not enough to make it profitable to extract.

The island was now explored. The other ships, which had been exploring on parallel tracks, reported back that they, too, had discovered small islands.

    schulmaniac1yc3.jpg

    The first island

    schulmaniac2ol8.jpg

    The second island

    schulmaniac3mq2.jpg

    The third island

It was a trifecta of discoveries! The big task now was to name these new lands. The ships all met at sea between the first and second island to debate the naming. All sorts of names were proposed:

    Larry: How about Stooge Islands?

Moe: A wise guy, eh? [insert eyepoke here]

    Wiley: How about Acme Isles?

    [insert anvil drop here]

Curious George: Ooo ooo Aah Aah Island?

Man With Yellow Hat: No, George. Time to come in and clean your cabin!

Bart: How about El Barto, Krusty Island and Cowabunga?

    Homer: D'oh! [insert choking here]

Jack Sparrow: How about Treasure Islands?

    Long John Silver: Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!

John: How about Ringo, Paul, and George Islands?

Elvis: No way! I want Hunkahunka, Thankyewvurramuch and Uh-hawhaw Isles!

[Elvis then got into a heated debate with John. This ended rather tragically: John was fried in a vat of butter and topped with bananas and peanut butter and eaten by Elvis in a single gulp]

The captain spoke up and demanded that his argument stop! He insisted that the naming process was driving people crazy. That's when he came up with the perfect name for the islands. From this point forward, the three small isles were known as the Schulmaniac Archipelago.

Wow! The second and third islands look like absolute duplicates of each other! Astounding!

I like the humor involved in this cj. And it's coming along well. Exploration CJs are always fun because they tell a story and you never know what's coming next. Keep up the great work! 4.gif
