Don't forget the hills. And there was a leech there about 4 years ago.quote>

What about the hills, are there nuke silos there or something?!?!? Leeches?!?!? WHAT?!?!

That's it, tomorrow I'm digging a BIG pit in my back garden, I'll have some food, a shotgun, and maybe a few magazines in there..........

The hills are just hills as far as I know... but I don't live there. And the leech means that I went to San Diego for a vacation 4 years ago.

And another guess for the CJ: Any skunks around?

    East Devonshire: Outpost No More

Outpost Mercaptan, located in central East Devonshire, provides an important transit link between western Devonshire and the outposts spreading out toward the coast. The rapid development of East Devonshire has overwhelmed the eastern town of Monkey Power Mountain, leading to the development of a new western transit hub. The new town, Chattering Hills, serves as the western terminus for a circuitous overmountain route. Weaving through mountain passes and around cliffs, this rout serves as the northern link between the homeland and its newest colonies. Before we see how Mercaptan is coming along, let's see Chattering Hills.

    Chattering1.jpg

Chattering Hills has a feel reminiscent of Schulmanicus Island, but is certainly more rural.

    Chattering2.jpg

A cluster of shops and homes sprouted up quickly along the trade route.

    Chattering3.jpg

Some of the original settlements in the backwoods have grown and persist. The small cabin of pioneer I. M. Sassy has morphed into the large farm see at the top of the image above.

    Chattering4.jpg

The distinctive church, in a style not hitherto seen in Schulmania, is dedicated to St. Simian of the Blessed Inattentiveness.

    Chattering5.jpg

Nearby gold deposits have helped fuel demands for larger coins for commerce. The Treasury has approved production of 2 schulmoneta coins from the ore found behind these buildings.

This town anchors the western end of the Overmountain Trail. Now, to Outpost Mercaptan, which anchors the eastern end. Outpost Mercaptan has grown and now is classified a village and referred to simply as Mercaptan. It is still essentially a farming and trading outpost in the middle of the hilly forest, but it has grown to have civic services and proper commerce and housing. Again, the simpler and timber oriented Stick Style architecture predominates here.

We begin our tour with some of the new farms which have arisen from the small plots cleared by the first wave of pioneers.

    farm1.jpg

    farm2.jpg

The family farm of Livven A. Pigpen, fine farmers who don't mind the occasional horse trampling their field.

    2farm1.jpg

The Flattus Homestead grows not only food but also serves as the village's lone hotel, Better Out Than Inn.

When one sees the bustling business district which has sprung up along the end of the Overmountain Trail, it is hard to remember the town is nestled in the wilderness.

    crossroads.jpg

The stately manse across from the church (at left) is the town hall.

    crossroads2.jpg

Dominating the crossroads are the shops. Commercial needs are met by entrepreneurs such as Ivanna Selphoane and her cousin, Ivanna Ipodd. A small café is run by Jimmy Yermunny.

But, just on the other side of these buildings lays the great forests of Devonshire.

    trees2.jpg
Fall is the best – beautiful colors and the Mercaptan Bean Festival. It features bean eating contests and a variety of non-singing musical productions.

Quality housing is abundant and affordable in Mercaptan.

    houses.jpg

    houses2.jpg
In the picture above, one can see the houses cascading down the hillsides on three parallel streets: Windbreaker Lane (foreground), Rippin Way (middle) and Sulfur Road (barely visible at top right).

We’ll close our tour of Mercaptan with a view of the new church, the Methane Chapel.

    church.jpg
Loud and proud on Windbreaker Lane, Methane Chapel’s belltower calls parishioners to services every week.

Yay, expanding Schulmania! Now this village looks as good as Wirt, loving it, just love that style! Pretty far from RB, but I don't mind to cross the whole Realm for East Devonshire! I heard that they sell excellent MP3 players, hopefully not many vacuum cleaners... 2.gif

Shingure: you can find the timber frame houses on the STEX... keyword JENX timber frame. The others are Kwawkelaar's and can be found on the LEX... author keyword Kwakelaar. Glad you like the lot selection!

Indeed you have come a long way the last couple of years—but you still need just as strong legs as you did 250 pages back in good oul Schulmania. May I ask where you got the churches?

    Hello, Bruce.

What a wonderful update on East Devonshire.  I truly believe you've gone beyond just posting graphics and given us a view into the life of the region by providing us with such in-depth pictures and your storyline.  Excellent update.  Thank you for all of the time and effort you put into these great posts.

    Regards,

    Gary

Nihonkaranws Thanks. Glad you like it.

ky72x Indeed, it is. That's I-40 (miles 379-382 in Tennessee)... everyone's heading to the University of Tennessee football game!

    Explodingsims Borg choppers??!! Watch out!!

fledder200 Now we know what you have been carving in your woodshop!

    Leech10 Methyl mercaptan it is!

John94538 I suppose it could be a bit flammable....

Dfnva You are most welcome. I am glad you like the larger region map I posted. I think it was a bit overdue.

Shingure He probably had Lauren tell him.

Callbat Cool! I wanna see some big ol' carriers.

    wir3d Hope you liked it.

GreekMan That is Knoxville, Tennessee on any given football Saturday (stadium holds ~107,000).

Leech10 So, San Diego is the original Leechville??!!

Hester You are partially correct... it's the Michelin Man after a bowl of beans.

    Joetropian1 Your title is safe!

NMUSpidey Hmmm... harnessing fart power could be a great new power source!

apete34 Thanks for coming back and I am glad you liked the latest installment.

    anarchy0029 1994? That's like ancient history!

Jacqulina I was hoping someone on board would drop me some gold coins off of that blimp.

fern244 Cheat off of Leech's paper.

    gabry85 lol... it's top secret!

Leech10 Probably a few skunks around Mercaptan...

Callbat Thanks! It doesn't really match its name, does it?

Leech10 The town is better after you light a match or ten.

Joetropian1 Yep! Methyl Mercaptan is the active stink ingredient in farts. Learned that off of Mythbusters.

Hester Cool! I rock! (I think.)

Smarty218 Don't cough too much... you'll end up breathing more in! lol

Benedict Thanks! A nice place with a stinky name.

gabry85 It's a long trek to East Devonshire, but it'll be a great adventure!

    jjune4991 A stinky little town!

John94538 lol... it may have to do with Brown Cloud Farms, an agricultural enterprise at the edge of town.

Explodingsims I wonder what blew the final barrier down? lol

NMUSpidey Moved to tears? I didn't know mercaptan was an eye irritant! Lol

Shingure And a good thing it is<
