suplado! Thanks! Glad you like the shopping. You will get a free gift card when you come.

Leech10 Short movies indeed! All part of the Supreme Wirdle's push for technology! And, as for Hester's Punctuation Emporium, I heard she was having a clearance on quotation marks... buy the first set and get the second set free!

Hester Do I owe you royalties for using question marks?

dralin321 Please do come by! We can all go down the Dark Alley for dinner then hit the town for fun nightlife and shopping.

Dsrwhat316 Thanks. I do use streets or I would get no people. But I try for plazas where I can get away with it!

Benedict Thanks! That's exactly the look I was going for.

cleaner475 Thanks. I am glad you enjoyed our latest venture into Schulmericho.

Jacqulina J!! Always glad to see you!

    gabry85 Two ales it is!

Za So, ya like meatloaf eh? We can hook ya up with some!

Hester Hester & Za... table for 2... inside or outside on Dark Alley?

Bakercity A present for the Supreme Wirdle? She is intrigued!

Zelgadis Do they have "I (heart) Nekominkoku" t-shirts in housecat sizes?

penguin007 Come on over! Let's shop till we drop!

Sobol Thanks for visiting Schulmania. I listen to all sorts of things, as long as they are pleasant to the ear.

DioAngel Awesome! My favorite Bach is Passacaglia & Fugue in C Minor. It's a classic. Well, I guess they all are. But, it's a classical classic. On a big big pipe organ, that thing will rock you like a hurricane!

KingTitan Wanna swing by for dinner tonight?

Mike the Mayor No malls here! At least for now.

Csgcseri Feel free to invest here. Or perhaps in the Devonshire hinterland. New development along the frontier is coming. Oops, that's a hint, methinks.

suplado! The Governor's Challenge will be in the next update.

Hester They have arrived. Check Nekominkoku for details!

For shame! Not *ONE* Trekkie noticed my deliciously witty reference (TOS) in the third picture in the most recent update? C'mon... someone better get it or you have to resign your Starfleet commission!

Star Trek reference, uhhh... I'm getting nothing. Might be because I watch Stargate and Star Wars, not Star Trek.

    Atkinos: Governor’s Challenge- Gran Maru

Governor Cawale has made a challenge to each town in her district: showcase the best your town has to offer and the people will vote on the most beautiful city. The winning town will get a reward of 10,000 special gold schulmonetas. Such a lucrative prize attracted the attention of several towns. Gran Maru, Atkinos and Atkiniros all got their entries submitted before the deadline. Schulmanidad was a bit late – the town council was tied up dealing with a major new project and unable to finish the required paperwork. In this update, we will see the great civic spaces of Gran Maru, still the largest city in Atkinos District and all of Schulmania – and the governor’s hometown!

The town centers on the Via Balenarossa, Avenue of the Red Whale. Balenarossa connects the port to the Civic Palace, which, despite its great age, is still the largest governmental structure in Schulmania. The main square is still anchored by the distinctive arch, but the walkway is littered with a few more monuments than the last time we visited Gran Maru. Now, let’s examine the Gran Maru entry for the Governor’s Challenge.

    businessvv4.jpg
Business has never been better. The town is still growing, but not as rapidly since the island is nearly built out.

    ferrybeach1pf0.jpg
The beach around the port has been improved, borrowing from Risa the idea of an all sand beach. The Customs House has been moved right by the port and new shops line the shore.

    ferrybeach2yz8.jpg
The improved shoreline continues south, past the mint, close to Southpark.
Let’s now see the grand avenue of the first planned city in the world. It still captivates the visitor.

    balenarossa4ks6.jpg
The financial district runs near the shore, south of Balenarossa. Maritime Hall (front left) is a bustling commerce and trading center. The Governor Cawale Statue is at lower right.

    balenarossa6ks6.jpg
Closer to the heart of town, theatergoers enjoy the Cawale statue along with the equestrian Supreme Wirdle monument and the Column of Champions. The golden dome of the Roane-Anderson Technology Coop is a new addition, serving to innovate and bring the Supreme Wirdle’s vision of future glory to life.

    balenarossa1xv5.jpg
The Civic Palace still anchors the western end of Balenarossa. At lower right can be seen the new FIFA Consulate, hosted by the Bureau of Feline Affairs.

    balenarossa2mj7.jpg
The town’s aqueducts are still running perfectly, after centuries of use.

    balenarossa3sd7.jpg
Some of the green median of Via Balenarossa was paved over for monuments. The statue of Schulmanicus Rex, mythological founder of Schulmania, sits astride the avenue and is surrounded by lovely plantings.

    balenarossa5jr2.jpg
The district government outgrew the original colonial offices and now also occupies the former First National Bank of Schulmania building (left of the Spirit of Betasix Monument).

    balenarossa7pi6.jpg
This view, looking south, gives a wider perspective of Via Balenarossa. It is the pride of the district for its fine vistas.

Let’s take the closer look at the area right around the Civic Palace. The small shops once there have been displaced by larger structures. Some small buildings remain, but demand has been high to build bigger.

Here’s a few random views around town.

    viaarcossc6.jpg
Via Arcos has fewer trees in the median these days, but plenty of style!

    vieemelinaandmintlv8.jpg
At the eastern end of Via Emelina sits the new Gran Maru Mint. It produces coins for most of Atkinos District and now ships to Wirdleonia.

    waterfrontmj3.jpg
One last view of the new and improved waterfront.

The heart of town is at the arch. It serves as a town focal point and signature landmark. The largest cluster of civic structures and monuments is here. Let’s see how it has changed.

Spectacular town, man! It looks like a real ancient Greek or Roman city with a twist of old Baroque buildings.

Too bad Schulmanidad isn't a candidate. But Gran Maru is also a nice, and monumental place! Let's see the other two.

Hey, looks like your sig! 2.gif

Anyway, very nice pix! Everything is very different from the "modern" SimCity style, excellent use of the pedestrian lots.

Looks like that the Schulminions (is that the name of your Kitty-citizens, right?) are evolving and just invented the... stoplight and the street lamp! 3.gif
