    Treasury Report 2

You may remember this information in the Busscastle Business Journal not too long ago.

    slide1ry0.jpg

And this report recently published in Devonshire

    slide1gw6.jpg

The common theme here is money – and the lack of it. Schulmania uses gold, silver and copper coin for all transactions. The problem is, coin production has not kept pace with demand. The coin supplies are being drawn down and small change is becoming scarce as copper is used extensively in manufacturing. Large amounts of gold have been diverted from making schulmonetas to making scepters for the Supreme Wirdle. Additionally, the recent drawdown of gold reserves for commemorative schulmonetas for the Coronation Accord has threatened to topple the Schulminion economy.

    fifatokendj4.jpg

As noted in the Busscastle Business Journal, several courses of action have been proposed. The Supreme Wirdle has contemplated these suggestions and has at last chosen a course of action for Schulmania. Devonshire Papio Hamadryas’ proposal has been accepted. For the first time in Schulminion history, money will be issued on paper – paper which has no intrinsic value. To maintain confidence in the monetary system, the notes are promissory notes, redeemable at full value in coin at the issuing bank. Limits will be placed on issuing banks. They cannot issue more in note value than they have in assets. Assets can be cash on hand or loan collateral. This novel solution will fill the gap in small change essential for commerce in Devonshire until a more permanent solution can be developed. Banks across Devonshire began printing notes immediately after the Supreme Wirdle’s proclamation. Below is a sample of the first issues.

    devonshire10pbo1.jpg

    lakegeorge5purrsdx2.jpg

    lakegeorge75purrsok7.jpg

But, this is not the end of the story. Copper and silver, especially copper, are becoming increasingly scarce as raw materials are diverted to storm clean up and recovery. The Supreme Wirdle has decided to extend the currency issuing to Atkinos and Schulmanicus Districts. The same terms and conditions apply for the homeland as they do for the colonies. Approved banks as well as government agencies have begun issuing money in both districts. Below, a sample of the currency now circulating in those areas can be seen.

    atkinos1zd2.jpg

    atkinos2mn5.jpg

    schulmanicus1hz6.jpg

    schulmanicus2ib8.jpg

    schulmanicus3kt2.jpg

This steady stream of currency – with no rhyme or reason to it – different sizes, shapes and denominations from a variety of official and semi-official issuers, served to confuse the population about as much as the coinage situation did in the days before the Schulminion Monetary Union. Something needed to be done to unify the currency in size and denomination, if nothing else. The increasing menagerie of issuers offered the potential for a logistics nightmare should a bearer seek redemption, as each note was redeemable only at the issuer for coin.

The Supreme Wirdle did not call for a convention to address this issue. Her plan, for the moment, is to expand exploration to find new sources of metals. She wants exploration in all directions. There are two objectives: find new metal sources and to find a suitable site for a much expanded capital for the nation. Initial plans call for exploring the unknown west as well as Eastern Devonshire and the Plains of Wirdelonia.

Cool update! Nice money there. Where did you make them?

Anyway, it might be really confusing, that there are several kind of notes.

Oh and one question: if a 75 purr banknote is published in Devonshire is it worth 75 purr in Shulmanicus?

(....and someone should think about, that one day, all mine's will run out

of minerals. But let it be the music of the future)

    Hello, Schulmanator.

    Hmmm.  Where to start?

    Busscastle Chocolates
I must say it's quite interesting to read that Busscastle Chocolates were sold to a Feline Consortium -- let along expanding into pastries and hard candies.  Just what we need -- cats wired on sugar!

I believe I'd be a bit concerned it I lived in the corridor where buildings need to be moved or torn down.  Ah... Such is the price of progress.

    Inflation Fears
It surely must be "tough" living in an economy in which "real property" that is, actual gold, is the medium of the day.  I can certainly see where the government will need to consider issuing paper (as you 've indicated later).

I guess folks could start using chocolate as currency...

    Real Estate Prices
This is a horrible piece of news!  NO ONE wants to believe that their personal castle -- their home -- may actually be worth LESS than what they originally paid!    Anybody know anyone who is good with a gas can and pack of matches?

    Missing Money?
My, my!  The thought of issuing what, in reality, are nothing more than an I.O.U without having the hard metal currency to back it up sounds very risky to me.  I mean, just think about someone who deliberately tries to get as many of the promissory notes as possible only to take them to an issuing bank and demanding they be traded for the backing silver or gold currency.  Hmmm... Actually, that's not a bad idea...

    Paper Money
Well, Schulmanator, I must say I'm quite impressed with the artisans who designed and created the paper money you've shown.  They've done very nice work and are to be congratulated for their efforts.  I would caution that unless they act to add counterfitting safeguards to the paper currency, it will only be a matter of time before someone starts to "market" their own currency.

(I would like you to know that you really did a wonderful job in designing this paper money.  It really looks great!)

I know I would cerainly be confused as to what currency I needed for what area at what time of the year when what festival was being held when the moon was blue on the second Tuesday of the week...

I suspect that the Supreme Wirdle is going to have to rethink her position on not calling for a consolidation of currency and commanding that a common currency be used across the land.  We can only hope and pray that this planned exploration for new lands will yeild a new source of silver and gold.  Even so, she will eventually have to address the issue of currency consolidation.

Perhaps when she gets to the heart of the new land explorations and, assuming a new source of these precious metals are found, she will have a reprieve for a time.  Nonetheless, she will need to deal with this issue at some future point in time.

Thanks again, Schulmanator, for a great update!

    Regards,

    Vandy

Xperian Thanks! And the Newcomer's Guide (link in sig) may be helpful to you in doing that. I am glad you like it.

Jrhnemo Come to think of it, that is a problem with a feline society. And, once it's shredded, not only can it not be spent, but it could be put to.... Shall we say... "other uses"!

Csgcseri Actually, that is a bit confusing. Thanks to the Schulminion Monetary Union, 100 purrs is one schulmoneta, regardless of which entity issued it. In coin, all are the same fineness, weight and size. But, the bank notes are issued by different entities, some of which are private institutions. So, this could pose a problem with redemption at a later time. But, the need for more resources will undoubtedly send them out once more to explore, as it seems to do for all societies.

Jacqulina Thanks! I have a wallet full of them - wanna go somewhere nice for dinner tonight?? Lol

AceofSpades Thanks! More is coming! Update frenzy is still underway!

Shingure Thanks! Glad you like it. I have had fun making it. But, it was a bit more of a pain that I had expected to make the templates!

Vandy Thanks for dropping in again! I am glad you got to the heart of the land issue! Explorers will be out on the high seas again before you know it! I will have an amendment to the recent region maps soon - it will show what lies beyond the explored areas... or at least label those areas! In other matters...

Busscastle Chocolates - The cats are not big on chocolate consumption. They don't want to eat away profits. That's why I won't get a ice cream franchise... I'd eat all the profits! Now, if they develop chocolate dipped mouse on a stick treats... all bets are off!! Luckily, the feline consortium was exceptionally diligent with relocating the historic homes and placed them in a setting which preserved their integrity. And, they are now closer to the Busscastle HQ, sort of like a mill village for choco-cats!

Inflation & Money - Yes, it would be a problem if everyone started printing off their own money at will! Should such a thing happen, the Claws of Wrath would no doubt be activated! Counterfeiting should not be a problem - crime has not been invented yet! Everyone just obeys the Supreme Wirdle... always mindful of her will.

    motivationwirdlezb2.jpg

Real Estate - Well, the folks in George's Crossroads were a bit greedy. After the gBay auction in Georgetown, where homes got upwards of 1000x starting bid prices, the neighbors were too ready to cash in and set their sights too high. Of course, it's the real estate speculator who is left holding the bag in such incidents... But, as a bright side for him, gBay may get the regal nod to auction off franchises for Chicken King. This could put him back in business!

Leech10 100 purrs makes 1 schulmoneta. I schulmoneta is defined as 8.5 grams of .900 fine gold and is 26.5 mm in diameter. One purr is pure copper, 19 mm in diameter and 3.11 grams.

GingerBlokey Thanks! I am glad that you like it and welcome you to Schulmania!

Tee hee! I have an update under development right now. It is *SO COOL*!! It is something never before seen in the CJs. Well, at least that I know of anyway! It's your lucky break! Don't put all of your eggs in this one basket - check every update between now and then. Great stuff is hatched in my mind every day. Well, to be honest, many of my ideas are scambled up. But, this particular project is not going to be over easy, but when it is, you will be glad we didn't (waver).

[The above is not related to the upcoming region map update. See? I told you my thoughts are a bit scrambled!]

    Region Map Update

To see previous iterations of the region map, click the thumbnail below.

    regionalmapsiq5.jpg

Region Map 008: What Lies Beyond

There are three directions in which the Schulminions are planning to explore in search of natural resources and expansion room. To help orient you to these areas, Region Map 006 has been modified slightly to add captions.

    region008schatkdevgg2.jpg

Note: These areas have not been explored yet, so they don't appear on the map. But, they have been referenced before. So, when they head in those areas, you will know where they are going. Terra Incognita is shown as well, but of course, no one is heading there... yet. We'll see what's going on there soon enough.

    Hello, Bruce.

Well, I must say you certainly do know how to whet a person's appetite with your preview of comming explorations!

I really am enjoying the way you "toy" with your readers -- sort of like a cat toying with its catnip mouse.

    Hmmmm....

Oh, by the way...  I never noticed it before today but Schulmanicus really looks quite a bit like a cat head.  Coincidence, do you suppose?
