It's been a while since I palyed SC4. This is the map of the rapid transit of my new city:

ashtoncityrapidtransitg.jpg

Full lines are elevated tracks, the dotted line is the only (for now) subway.

EDIT: Sorry for the size, why I always find so hard to post thumbnails on SImtropolis? Every time I try i get the "broken link" pic

My offering of a simple, basic UK road map for one of my large tiles. Only Motorways (Highways) and Main Avenues have been numbered at this stage (just to make it understandable). I have yet to outline what is urban and what is rural.

Red: A-Road

Yellow: B-Road

White: Unclassified through routes

Streets haven't been included here, I am leaving that for a zoomed in map view.

Some great maps recently. Good work, guys (and gals?). Unfortunately I haven't done anything lately as I haven't played SC4 much. Mostly waiting for CitiesXL to come out at this point...

Yeah, I have done some searches and haven't found much on that front. There have to be other geeks like us out there, right?

I haven't been playing much so don't have much to do mapwise. I enjoy the maps more than the game at this point. I guess once CitiesXL is out and I'm playing that, I'll have some more inspiration and get back to maps. Later I can post my big map that the above one is an insert for, but it doesn't reflect some changes I made on the inset. Or if I get a chance I'll try to update it.

Small update: a new elevated line added, rerouted the blue one and corrected some errors (some stations missing and, in the previous map, the violet line estern terminal was in the wrong place).

Here's a work-in-progress map (my first) from a city I'm building called Valston. The red lines with dashes on the sides are underground highways. Click the picture for a high-quality .png version.

These are all great maps!  I follow the tutorial in the tutorial topic, but my subway lines look like something out of a 1996 website.  How do you make lines that look as god as the on in the post I am quoting?

^That is one of my favourties.

I think if is down to the brush type, the thickness and the choice of colours. If you go for the more vibrant versions of a colour, I tend to think they look nicer. The station sizes should also be realtive to the line thickness.

The only advice I can offer I think.

I should be more specific, and this is probably me not being an expert at Photoshop.

The lines' edges are blurry, while those cool looking subway maps' lines don't blend into the map blurrily, but are just solid lines and solid curves.

Edit:  I guess the size of the image makes the most difference.  Plus, using the pen and stroking the path made with the pen.  My lines are much smoother, and are not jagged.

Well you need to choose the correct brush from the brush styles menu. I use illustrator. And they have a great many deal more advantages for this sort of thing. I guess you could look for tutorials elsewhere on the web for this and photoshop?

I actually just went through every page of this thread again, the general quality of maps is simply astounding. Each person has their own unique styles, really it is just awesome looking through here.

Really keep the maps coming, they are one of the best and most creative external aspects of Sim City.

Standby.
