Going to have to redo it though... I've expanded it and changed the terrain layout and stuff. 14.gif

That's amazing - do you do this with photoshop or something else? It would be amazing if there was a tutorial for this stuff. I've taken to attempt to use Google sketchup as my map creator, since it allows for easy shape creation and you can move them around easily, but I haven't got very far yet. Does anyone know if there's a site out there dedicated to this kind of stuff?

It's a good map if not a little baffling. Actually quite baffling.

Anyway the link you wanted was;

Not the one you posted as it's broken.

to make a metroline (or whatever yours is), just use the photoshop pen tool, then stroke the line.

now just search google for a good pen tutorial

Thanks for the comments.

To clarify, The green are train lines. They start off at the end of the line, head towards the City Loop, circle it, then come back again. It's like the Melbourne metro lines.

The orange are tram routes, and the blue are bus routes.

The purple is the Ring Road line, named so because it roughly follows the Cobalt Ring Road. It goes continuously around.

The arrows indicate regional rail line, not metro.

Hey everyone!

Here is my first try at a SC4 Metro Map! I just made it today for my newest City Journal, Central Syldav. I only have MS Paint to make my map, so I was kinda happy with how it came out:

Incomplete map of the central-western part of my region [link].

There are a few small errors which will be ironed out anyway... such as a small body of water in an inappropriate place (near Hidden Valley).

Also all of these transportation look really great, top notch work, ive seen many real life city maps that weren't even as good as this.

That's because Simtropolis is epic win.

I really don't know the answer to your question, but if you made a topic for this problem it would probably get more views & answers. Try sending a PM to a moderator to see if they can help.

Final version.

Since I forgot to add the keys to read the map: black is regional/national rail, gray is cityrail, coloured is rapid transit (full line is elevated, dotted is underground).

I don't think I'll work on this city any more. It's time to move on a new region.

Great map, Jacob! I love the colors and fun angles at the end of the purple, green, brown and south yellow lines. It was a real inspiration to me, and davidalow's comment (about the orange line diving over the other lines a few times) got me thinking... how would I do the map?

So here's my attempt - I have to say it was very challenging - I grew to hate the red line! And then Paseo Ave, Fairfax St and Wheaton Rd drove me nuts!

I still have a couple of questions - is Parkville West really east of Parkville East? And are the symbols at 8th, Oak St and Pursching helicopters? I decided that they were...

I'd really like to see an updated version with your extensions and additions!

Trying again with my second region.

The grey lines are railways, the dotted lines are tram lines, the rest is underground 4.gif

I feel bad for saying it (in a werid way) but Benedict, I much prefere yours to the original and it is how I would probably have like to see it done. I love how you have handled the interchanges and I like how the lines all align. It is a nice crisp clean design 4.gif Awesome! I wish I had your talent!

@ Benedict: I have to say, you one-up'd me. I do love how you designed it, and I like how you brought it all together. I'm glad to see that I inspired you to play around with my map, and yes.... that red line is hell on earth, isn't it? I'd love to see what you'll come up with in the future!

@ dragonsign: Wow. That thing is huge. Excellent work!

@ davidaiow: Well, although I will agree that my map does have it's quirks, I think you need to realize that I spent about 1 hour on that, with no prior planning before doing it. Also, I was working in a 800x600 size canvas (Benedict's is bigger, thus crisper and prettier). Also, I said it was something I was playing with at the time and wasn''t actually finished. So to completely dismiss my work kinda seems a little unfair, don't you think?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anywho, still working on the new region (that actually the real transit map I made for my city I'm making) but with school, my Photoshop slave driver Zel, and life in general, I've been slow to make a new transit map....

This is all I have so far... 3.gif

newmapf.jpg

Pretty and simple so far, huh? Expect more after I get done with my first major round of exams this week and have time to work on more.

Jacob

PS: Benedict, don't be surprise if I steal some ideas from your awesome stuff there....

Oh no!! Dude, I didn't mean to completely discredit your work! I actually loved it and I loved the cleaness of it and the wonderful choice of colours...

but Benedict took your awesome ideas and improved on them and made a better map. You are much better than me, and I can't wait to see what you do next 9.gif

I'm sorry if I caused offense! That was not my intention!

LOL, love your latest work 2.gif

And huge kudos to you if you made that map in 1hr - excellent work for a short time. And none of my ideas are really origial - feel free to 'steal' away - I, too, am looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Island-Transit-newest-larger.jpg

What I would like to see on the Isle of Wight. I know this sort of thing would never happen but it would be a lot better than the 1 excuse for a train line we have now 4.gif

I know I'm kicking myself in the foot a bit, but I posted it incomplete so I could get feedback and comments and other interpretations.
