want me to try and create some projections for the suspended monorail? any luck with automata modders yet?

Warrior i'm a bit dubious about that highway, it looks like the road surface is made up of pipes! could you change the light part of the texture to be a lot thinner so it looked like dividers for lanes?

I agree with borntoboogie. Please make the light lines thinner. Also, I would like to see slightly more variation in the dark areas. I think maglev is the look you're going for right? Just add some small med-to-dark gray areas to make it look a little more metallic. Great progress all.

I only took a texture already made and put it in game. It is very easiy to change the texture, I can transit modd alright but texturing, like other a lot of NAM team members, is not my area.

no that's a highway not a public transit line, i'm just attempting to create some models for that suspended monorail but its taking longer then i thought, hopefully I'll have the support and track in 3D by this afternoon and the train by late tonight or early tomorrow morning

Any idea whether it will actually be possible to make a suspended monorail?

EDIT: I have completed the monorail support and rails, though without textures etc.  how do i upload the model?

It would probably be better to have a covered Highway if possible, it is not something I have tried, or have knowledge about.

When you reply, at the bottom of the reply screen it says:

File/Picture Attachments then after zipping the models click attach files, note the file can't be bigger than 1MB(if it you have to host it on a site like mediafire) and it's quite simple from then on.

All the HSRP track has been set to replace El-Rail, It's just now things like supports speeds train models etc. Andisart did you say you weere going to PM me a link to download automata models.

    Well I think some sort of magnetic tracks would be great for highway actually. The last shot you sent, warrior, if we can replace the black middle part with some technical stuff that look like tracks.

    Can you post a pic of what you have?

    I think it should be possible to do the suspended rail, but I'm not sure if we could change the height of the trains running along it. More info required here.

    Regarding covered highways, we would have to remodel every highway piece and couldn't just change the texture right? Dunno if that is worth the while.

    Yes I did see the issues you had but that was for roads, OWRs the arrows are added seperately to avoid the mirroing problem.

    HSRP track is converted, I need to change things like speed, UI, supports/pylons, etc.

    Covered highways it may be possible with T21s to cover the highways, rather than remodel every tile, which I agree would not be worth while.

    Like I said unless the textures are made for me I can't do much with paint.

    It is defenatly possible to change the hieght of the trains running along suspended monorail, the trains follow paths and path files define the XYZ positions of the points which "dot-toDot" together to make a path. Although it would be better if the track models could be made to use the existing paths as much as possible, not neccessary but easier.

    The car models are far too complex for me to skin, I'll ask Olasz if he can do it.

    I can see that it's easier to keep the height of the trains. But that is worth a try. In the sketch they hang about as high as they are and it looks good.

    here is the link to the tutorials

    I will send you the files I have for the highway and a dat.

    When you make the normal images into .fsh, to be put into .dat, you have to use FiSHman, not SC4Tool as SC4Tool only suppports upto 128x128 images, but the highway teture has to be 256x256.

    Do you happen to have a "higher-definition"/clearer image of the alternate road textures?

    EDIT: The cars will replace the normal automata, but there isn't enough to replace all of them?

    So should the other MAXIS cars be disabled if possible, it will mean there will be less vareity of cars on the road, but it's Mars.

    the other alternative is that we create models for the rest of the vehicles. I guess we can disable the motorcycles?

    on the subject of the monorail i have left the car with approx. 7m of ground clearance, so are we gonna make a suspended monorail or a maglev?

    I don't have better resolution for the onewayroads unfortunately. I made the as a combination of the road textures and extraction of this:

    I'll post the textures here later and we can see if we find someone who can recreate or improve them.

    Fishman is the one I use 4.gif

    Would it be a hassle to disable all other MAXIS cars until we replace them?

    Or would it make adding more Mars cars difficult? There will be more models for Mars later I'm sure.

    Well, the motorcycles, do you remember that game Extreme-G? That had so cool future motorcycles. We should get something like that. I will try to BAT one later.

    I prefer trying to get suspended monorail to work, that would be more unique. We can't have maglev as well can we? Wasn't there a third unlocked transit of that kind?

    It is possible to have maglev and suspended monorail, one or the other can be made in the same fashion as my HSRP modd, GHSR modd, SAM, and the draggable GLR in the NAM.
    That model you showed looks very very nice/good/interesting, but what is it, highway?
    Andisart: You don't happen to be good at UV mapping/skinning?

    I had an idea after watching BBC news about cyber-cars, I was wondering if they could be a replacement for pedestriais?

    The current hieght for monorail trains is 15.5m

    I don't know about the link it works for me, try doing it manually, go to the SC4D forums and go to the tutorials section and there is a automata section there.

    EDIT; The tube network about a page in this thread is something I'd love to make functioanl if I had the models...
    Also a SimMars NAM should be developed, to take care of the RULs, etc.

    That was an attempt for highway replacement early on in the project. This is the old transit thread, but beware it's 3 years old, many pics don't show anymore.

    Great idea with the little carrier-cars for replcing pedestrians! Makes total sense! I'll add this to the list.

    Can you say more in detail what you need regarding UV-Mapping, might be able to help here.

    I'll add SimMars NAM to the list. What are RULs?

    RULs are network related files in dats.

    These define how networks are drawn; what happens when two networks are drawn over each to make an intersection, eg Railcrossing over road; interchanges/puzzle pieces/TABing; when 2 textures are next each other they are replaced with defined textures; bascially everything to do with networks can be customized with RULs, except for adding new networks.

    I don't really know how to explain it in more detail abou UV mapping...

    What are you looking for? These little BATs are tres facile. Problem is with the mod - the t21 exemplar.

    Oh, and I think there are only 5 slots left on the PedMall menu, unless I learn to make more.

    Time - I didn't say you couldn't have them. What do want? I really wanted to lot up the little pink one (with the Sufi riddle "No I, no U, no Y" on it) as a modular cemetary - only 1x1, but the more you plop the more effect you get. It would connect to the pedmall and be transit enabled if possible. Haven't figured that part out yet, though.

    I have an idea for replacing Monorail/El-Rail (The one that doesn't end up getting replaced by HSRP) I am a extreme novice at BAT, and I can only texture in the reader.

    I thought something like this for Maglev (I think we should stick with the 2 tracks?):

    What about dirigibles (airships)? I read a lot of sci-fi novels, and one thing I've noticed is that dirigibles seem to be a very popular idea for use on Mars. Not necessarily airships like Zepplins, but shorter, rounder vehicles. Maybe something like a flattened oval in cross-section, to reduce how much they would catch the wind. I would make a simple model to show you all, but it's a bit beyond me at the moment. Maybe they could replace the ferries, since there is no water on Mars, so no use for traditional ferries. Just an idea.

    hmm perhaps there should be a space port instead of a sea port and a passenger terminal instead of the airport so the space port teleports cargo to a cargo ship in space and the passenger terminal launches a space shuttle or some other remodel

    Another idea would be a high-speed rail instead of just the normal rail in the game, mainly because HSR can work with high-tech electric cables (even though presently the most popular ones are just like regular trains, but with some new type of wheel, which enables it to go up to 250-400 km/h). But we could use something like electro-magnetism, because it is in the future after all. Anyway, just a suggestion.
