Simple:

1) Increase the sea level, or

2) Mod ice sleds. These are already in use with tour buses in the antarctic.

whats to make of this "SimMars NAM"? i was hoping to get a better understanding of how the NAM is implemented in this project, if at all. i could probably turn out a bridge or 2 for y'all if ya want.....

i saw this pic and could make a bridge similar.....

There's also a model a page back put up by Andisart that would make an interesting bridge, maybe for road. I'll get some mars concrete textures and the road texture and pass them on to you so you can start looking at them.

As for the NAM, we work very hard to be sure the SimMars transit mods are fully compatible with the latest NAM release. At present time there are still a few missing pieces, such as all the bridges, ground and elevated highway, el- and mono-rail. Welcome to SimMars!

@timcravey: all i really need at this point is the mars texture set. the network textures i'll add in later via T21 or thru the reader.

@swat: if you are moving forward with the tube (which is sweet btw), i may be able to make a bridge exemplar to use your models, but i'd need some info regarding the TGI's used. otherwise, unless i had the same exact textures and UVW map settings, it would not match.

@andisart: i could also use that model as well if you would allow. i know nothing about overrides or transit textures outside of what applies to bridge building though......

i should admit i never tried the SimMars modd, so i will give it a look to see what i can come up with on my own.

Some Simtropolis members who submit to the STEX mod planes that have a different design from default Maxis planes. So modding planes wouldn't be so hard. Also, someone modded police cars. This could be the keys to modding transport graphics!

I can't get an airport to lot up - the Lot Editor crashes whenever I try to open the Airport lot. How is the Airport blocked from the beta?

Andisart, could upload the model in 3ds or .max? Or did you create it in gmax?

Cars and airplanes can definately be replaced, but if they are different in shape they require different models which require being skinned, which isn't exactly easy as I understand, other than a simple texture replacement.

    Tim, look in the mods folder, I'm not sure how it is done but I thought it's only the Icons in the menu that are disabled.

    Did you try it with the normal SC4 plugin folder and it worked?

    Jonathan, I made the model in gmax so don't have it for MAX right now. Could export and retexture when I get my laptop in 2 weeks.

    Probably I can do it...I have no problem.  But I need some sort of design.

    Oh right...good point. But what if we can make a texture that makes an illusion that the wingspan is bigger? Somepeople do things like that (I'm not saying this will be easy 2.gif).

    Automata are truly 3D, so we can't do any illusions. It is possible with Buildings which most of the time are just a cube. This is because buildings can only be looked at in 4 direction (Each Camera angle). Where as automata, can go in any direction (round corners, diagonal, etc)

    No problem Andisart, btw your an admin on the exchange now, can you look at the registered users? (two people in near the top left corner)

    nice one with the airport layout-

    I started going through your files and looked at the rail stations.

    The small passenger rail station is about ready to go, there's only a little glitch with the model: it sits over the tracks a little bit.

    The freight station cannot be connected to the rail, can u have a look on this?

    Yeah, that rail connection is cosmetic - when I lotted it the maxis station had no connection and I haven't taken the time to learn how to change that. I reshot the model with a forklift-suitable floor (should be in the same folder). It does function however, and it connects to the road. I think it is done on PEG's Rural Freight Station lot.

    I was hoping there would be other stations offered as well. We need a large passenger station.

    The airports present a problem - they contain Maxis buildings.  There are some tutorials on LEX about airport modding, but again, I haven't had the time yet. Same for automata. If anyone wants to take up the task of investigating it, please do.  The remaining 6 airport lots could be relotted to fill in until such time as we can create some of our own.

    BTW I intended the balloons to be used as ferry substitutes, not airplanes. I just put that on the airport lot so I could study the model in game. I can't say I'm entirely convinced yet. I haven't needed a ferry so I haven't bothered but I see several regions on Mars where the ferry and seaport might be useful - Cydonia, Mariner Valley, North Olympus Mons.  Seaport will have larger balloon which I am working on.

    I didn't know about the resource collector - cool. Replace any missing textures with whatever; I'm not sensitive. Or let me know what's missing and I'll find it for you.

    Please feel free to use any model however you please. I often create new lots to suit the needs of my game region so models may get reused several times before finding their right purpose. I'm glad you're enjoying them.

    Are there any other  .gmax you want? How do you do that 'package' thing?

    Tim:  I looked through all gmax files you sent and it´s not included so if you could send it again would be great.

    Could you make a big passenger rail station by using ur small passenger station model as a base for larger model?

    Regarding the freight station can you fix the BAT so it does not overlap the track, re-render and create new lot? If you can´t get it connecting to tracks send it to warrior.

    I filled the missing textures, put in more nightlights and an entrance. Will be an I-m warehouse. What u think?:

    Yee Haw!!

    Name is Soft-Loc - manufactures low-tech zippered plastic airlock with nano-seal technology. I'll do a loading bay featuring the product and we can do some CS$$ outlets and a CO$$$ corporate center.

    But first will have look at train stations - I think a whole new set.  Are there standard track measurements I should be aware of?

    Regards train station: Why new ones? the ones you have are lovely. Well, if not we use the models for something else. I´m sure there are standard track measurements u need to be aware of, but I don´t know them.

    I also posted a package of 'Mars' concrete textures for Choco to try on the bridges (anyone seen Choco lately?)

    I Te'd your stations Tim, there is one small problem that I have to sort out before I upload but I doubt it will be hard to fix, also one thing the passenger stations seems to have 95 cars and pedestrians (in total) going to the station when it isn't connected to rail inplying there are 95 jobs there which seems a bit high to me, may be 50 at the most, more like 25-30?

    The passenger capacity on the large station should be about 5000 - 7000. I don't know what the other numbers should be; I may try to do a larger freight station for heavy use.

    I want to reshoot this one with yellowish concrete instead of blue. I reworked the freight station lot because it still didn't look good. If you want I can put my version up or you can rework the lot you have.

    It now has two tracks to help in positioning the building correctly. I did a 2x3 and a 3x3 (shown) and like both pretty well.

    So I said, I would do an airport... Well I finally got to it. 3.gif


    SimMars Landing Strip

    To Do:

    -Make Runway longer.

    -More props.

    -Make it functional.

    -Basic modding/custom icon.

    -Terminal.

    -Parking lot.

    I was hoping someone could BAT me a 3x3 terminal for this airport, since I can't BAT.. Even if I could, think about how hard it would to BAT SimMars style...

    To Do:

    -Custom icon

    -Change the title (Instead of SM_Underground Parking, I'll make it SM_Trans_Underground Parking)
