    It should be possible to make them functional. I think it is possible to set the path for the automata where it will run along.

    With this SimMars have not placed the stops for metro,train and monorail.,buses and machines all terrestrial.

    basically the wind on mars is very fast however it packs no punch since the air is so thin so 255 mph winds would feel like a fresh breeze

    WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ONEWAYS AND AVENUES!!? 15.gif I can't even access those from the menu anymore. Oh that sign in justintimes picture, some one had made something like that before, with traffic lights. It would have been perfect for this, I know its on this site, I just can't find it.

    Hi there, i'm new to SimMars and i'm not very good at BATting but I've designed a street lamp and an aircraft and working on some other stuff too.  I have projections here, would someone be able to BAT them if they're any good?

    This is my idea for street lighting, it could either be mounted on top of a post or on one of justintime's poles if that's possible.  I'm not sure about solar panels on top, i guess they would be fairly ineffective at such a distance from the sun... tell me what you think.  the whole thing is basically cylindrical so i guess it shouldn't be too hard

    And this is an idea for an aircraft, i've modified a design I found on a NASA website, thought it might make a good aircraft, assuming it could be made?

    Thanks 4 sharing this. At the moment we are lacking a modder who can do automata mods. If anyone knows how to do it, get onboard 2.gif

    Have you any idea what's currently being designed and what needs designing?  I'd prefer transfer based stuff but I'm sure I can have a go at anything really.  I have tried to sign up for design and transport team but haven't got a yay or nay message yet. :-( any idea about that?

    EDIT:

    I now have my first designs towards a monorail replacement. It's a maglev train that SHOULD be able to follow the line of a road and travel above it if scaled correctly

    Looking good, can you show a side and perspective view? Would you be able to BAT too and do you have automat/transit modding experience?

    Current aim is to replace avenues, ground highway, train, and elevated rail.

    ha ha i've just noticed it's out of scale! it's a bit taller than that, so imagine it stretched by about 10 or 20%

    I unfortunately have no BAT experience but I am trying to teach myself.  If you can direct me to a good transit BAT / Mod forum I should be ok to have a go.  As you can guess I have no automata mod experience either.

    I'll have a go at some side views but perspective may be difficult.  Will the front, top and side view be enough toBAT from?

    If all the models were provided, I'd be happy to make them functional as a replacement for monorail, it may be an idea to use the HSRP(on STEX) modd as a base as that has gentler curves.

    Somewhere i thought I saw a blueish Highway texture, is that still around?

    I also noticed you didn't mention el-highway has that been replaced?

    Yes I think you're right, the Ice Train or THZ train already look similar to the monorail so that may be good, and i may look into changing textures of HSRP to martian if that's ok? would i need permission from anyone to use it in SimMars?

    oh yeh darn it! i had a lil go at BATting my maglev and the shapes are too difficult.  We could use HSRP as an alternative though? could it be reworked to look like a maglev?

    I didn't mention elevated highway because transforming the other transports is so much work already so a priority is to have the different kinds transformed first. Choosing between elevt. and gound highway the ground one makes more sense for Mars. We can add elev. highway later of course.

    Regarding the HSRP: I already have permission to use it for SimMars. I think it will fit perfectly the way the carriers and bridges are designed. I always wanted the old tunnel entrance because it looked like sooo SimMars, but 3ddz never got back to me regarding it. The tunnel file in the BETA release is ok, the other one would be perfect. This is the old one:

    Actually I think the texture looks great and absolutely compatible with SimMars. What I would like to see though is to have new electric masts if possible, but the old ones would work too.

    I don't know about creating transportation BATs but with some advise I would go ahead and BAT a station for this.

    And just to clarify: HSRP replaces elevated rail or monorail?? Elev. Rail is like a train and monorail is the fastest transport in SC, right?

    bortoboogie: I don't think perspective view would be necessary 2.gif As a start visit the How-To-Contribute thread in this forum, there are some links to start with in the introduction. Generally the forums here are not really structured when it comes to tutorials, you kinda have to learn bits and pieces here and there..

    Right Ok then i'll have a look. I'm real good with autocad and could produce a 3d building on that if it's any use? do you know if the 3d models fro mthat can be used for the BAT?

    Well, not sure, I can image the model itself can be used if you can export in the right format (.3ds), don't think texture work will export though.

    well it seems it can be done but not very easily, i'm still working on it now.  I'll let you know if I have any developments.  By the way, any idea if my SimMars application's been processes yet?

    Andisart: I don't know how to make automata, It might be good to contact Olasz or Swamper77 at SC4D as they do. I may be able to replace automata though.

    Network models are UV mapped in the reader not exported in the BAT fashion. so it may not be a problem.

    HSRP replaces monorail. It would be good for Maglev to replace HSRP ( not monorail) because HSRP has the RULs already done for the curves. Changing the masts would be quite simply though as the T21 exemplars are already done, and it would only be a matter of replacing models.

    When you change the texture of ground highway it changes the texture of el-highway, and changing one texture changes a lot of the Maxis pieces, mostly not the on/offramps, if you still have that blue highway texture I can see what the result will be.

    And btw the NAM is Incompatibe with Simmars.

    And as a side note: the road and street textures are better as alphas without the red background.

    @borntoboogie: Well the story with SimMars team is that there isn't really an enclosed team so there is no need to apply per se. Maybe you don't know but when SimMars started off it was a big thing with a huge hierachy with chairman, coordinators etc etc. It was hosted on a private forum only for the members and updates where given here on ST. Then there came a big crash and suddenly the project fell apart and was more or less dead for almost 2 years. I joined SimMars BAT and design team not long before that crash happened, was building team leader at the time it happened. In summer 2006 I aproached Dirk with a concept I had in mind to rescue at least all the work that had been done and put it in a playable form and part of that was to have the project being open to  the community and not seperate again as well as to get rid of hierachy as that was part of the problem before. I created the sticky threads with introductions and info on how to contribute to the project the best way so everyone can help. I hope I made the project more accessible this way. So much for a little SimMars history 4.gif

    So basically when it comes to transportion there is no one active at the moment. So you can be the new guys 4.gif

    @warrior: Can you contact Olasz and maybe get either him involved or ask him if he would show us how to create automata mods. The more people know the better! Swamper77 isn't working on SimMars stuff anymore, he's got real life stuff he told me.

    Regarding the HSRP, replacing it with monorail, not sure. The tracks look much more like rail not magnetic tracks. It would make sense to make monorail/HSRP to maglev because it's so fast. But maybe we can change the appearance of the tracks then. What's the function of elevated rail then by the way?

    Can you show the pic of the highway texture you mean?

    I know about the road and street texture. It WOULD look better if they are alphas. I tried to do it for the road tiles but couldn't get rid of the MAXIS pathways then. I have the aplha-roadtiles mod started here on my PC already.

    Andisart: At the moment HSRP replaces monorail, it should be possible to make it replace Maxis El-Rail, and have Maglev replace monorail. if you want that.

    It would be best to use the HSRP RULs, as they allow for smoothe curves, for Maglev.

    If you can't get rid of the MAXIS path ways it probably means you need to make some wealth textures, which I can explain in more detail/do if you wish.

    I don't have a picture of the highway texture, it was never in game, I think it was on the first post of this thread.

    And for automata, I this forum has some tutorials on it, I will try something when I get home from school.

    ha ha no probs, i copied andis!  I'm gonna try and have a look at the avenue or highway stuff as it seems easier, anyone got any ideas? I was thinking the Highways might be covered to protect from wind and dust and to filter out pollutants?

    I am now almost certain I can replace the automata, if I had models provided.

    EDIT: I found the highway texture I was talking about it was in the Overall Progress thread, I will try and implement it now and post a pic today.

    Ok, good, let's replace the El-Rail with the HSRP and make a new maglev to replace monorail. That would be the best solution.

    Regarding the roads: I thought I had replaced the wealth levels since I made 4 sets of textures each (for example: 0x00aa0d04, 0x00aa0d14, 0x00aa0d24, 0x00aa0d34 where the 2nd last digit is the walth indicator) but still for some tiles the sidewalks showed up. So I think we have to disable or replace the sidewalk textures. Tell me more what you know about the whole thing.

    Can you check the link to the tut on SC4D? Doesn't work for me.

    borntoboogie, the application form on the website is outdated.. lol

    I was just in touch with the webmaster and hopefully we will have the website updated and taken care of again soon.
