I knew Heathrow was the busiest but Stanstead lol. I'd go for Atlanta, it just seems nicer although I base that purely on the pictures shown.

Out of Houston and Atlanta, it's a hard decision, but footballwise, I think Atlanta is doing about 1 game better. Or are they...
If Dallas was included, I'd say Dallas.

I never liked Atlanta, and I don't really know why. Something about it just bothers me. Since I'm from Minnesota, there are two sport related reasons why; in 1998 the Vikings had one of their best years ever. They were 15-1 in the regular season, and were rolling over everyone in the playoffs as well. They played the Falcons in the NFC championship game, and played horribly and lost by a field goal. That one is the team's fault, you say? How about this; in 1991 the Twins and Braves played each other in the World Series. A large group of Minnesotans bought a billboard across from the Twins's hotel with an encouraging message. A mob of Braves fans tore down the billboard and burned it. How's that for southern hospitality?

My opinion of the city improved a bit when I drove through it on my way to southern GA for a Habitat for Humanity project. The downtown areas (yes plural, there is no central downtown area) had very nice architecture. However, on the way back there was a NASCAR event and it took 3 hours to drive through downtown. I hate NASCAR...a lot...and knowing that that is why I was stick in traffic for 3 hours really didn't bode well with my opinion of the city.

And the deal about the busiest airport, that's because there is one airport for a city that size. Just think if Chicago had one instead of two major airports. Some airlines won't even fly to busy airports. Southwest Airlines gets their profits from short gate times, and won't fly to airports like Minneapolis/St. Paul (8th busiest).

Of course, in 1991 the Twins beat the Braves in what was arguably the best World Series ever and heartbreaking for us Braves fans. In '98 the Falcons squandered their only Superbowl appearance in the history of the franchise. Having grown up in Atlanta, I am sorry to say that I'd vote for Houston. Though still a victim of the glass and steel "generic" growth that plagues many sunbelt cities, Houston's population and cultural life are much more interesting than Atlanta's.

Even as a Houstonian, I must admit, we have one of the worst football teams in America. 15.gif (My vote is still Houston, though. I just had to talk about the Houston football team... the "Texans")

Oh, dont get me started with that team.21.gif  Anyway, I still llike both cities but I'm leaning to houston. Why? High diversity, strong economy and the real estate bubble hasn't burst (and it wont anytime soon).

And without Houston, you wouldn't have the famous, "Houston, we have a problem". 3.gif Just think if NASA were in Atlanta... "Atlanta, we have a problem". Sounds a little strange. 1.gif Actually, it sounds like more of a airplane problem which would make sense for Atlanta. 19.gif

While Houston's teams aren't that good, their team's venues are AWESOME.

Anyway, after going to both, I have to say Houston. Atlanta is tooo redneckish / ghetto to me. Houston is also, but, it can't touch ATL.

Well, We're not really talking about DFW here.

Atlanta, All the WAY!

Houston is one of the greatest cities ever, but its lacking history now, compared to the rest of Texas.

It doesn't have the "culture" that houston has had before.

If you compare Houston to Dallas; San Antonio; Austin; and even El Paso, Houston falls behind.

Atlanta, is a major cultural and commercial hub down in the south.

Since the Summer Olympics of 1996, which is held in Atlanta, It became an Internationally known city.

It is also home to Coca-Cola, UPS, Bellsouth, Siemens, TBS, Cingular, Delta Airlines, Home Depot, CNN, TNT, CN and more. It was also home to the great defunct World Championship Wrestling (WCW)

Atlanta, is a sport city.

Falcons: NFL (Georgia Dome)

Hawks: NBA (Philips Arena)

Thrashers: NHL (Philips Arena)

Braves: MLB (Turner Field)

The other ones are:

-Atlanta Silverbacks: Soccer

-Atlanta Vision: ABA Basketball

-Atlanta Rollergirls: Roller Derby Women

-Gwinnett Gladiators: East Coast Hockey League

-Georgia Force: Arena Football League

Education in the city is also great, with Georgia Tech, GSU, and Emory University. Atlanta is without a doubt, a very well educated city.

The Districts are also unique.

Downtown is the "Commercial District"

and Midtown is known as the "Art and Culture District"

Buchead and Surrounding Neighborhood is known as the "Shopping District"

Hotels, Restaurants, Museums, Libraries, Shopping Center are all over Atlanta.

Yes the Districts are Unique and so as the Skyline. Or should I say Skylines?

Atlanta has a few skylines, and well, could be one.

Downtown

downtown.jpg

Midtown

or this link:

Buckhead

Atlantaregionbuckhead2.jpg

Major Attractions are:

-Atlanta History Center

-Legendary Fox Theatre

-High Museum of Art

-The Varsity

-World of Coca-Cola

-Martin Luther King Jr. Nat. Historic Site

-Stone Mountain

-Six Flags Over Georgia

-Underground Atlanta

-World's largest Aquarium: Georgia Aquarium

-Atl. Botanical Garden

-Fernbank Science Center

and the list goes on and on.

Houton's skyline is great! I mean GREAT!

Atlanta's skyline however is well. is Pretty good. It is not that dense.

I don't want Atlanta to be as dense as Los Angeles, or NYC or Chicago.

Skylines are overrated, it doesn't much define what a city is.

Atlanta may not be as rich as Houston (because of the Oild Industry) but the Culture of the South lives within Hotlanta.

The southern cuisine is great, and the people are heart warming.

Atlanta was also kind of a dangerous city as Detroit (although Detroit is a lot worse), but crime is going down.

Actually Houston's Crime rate is going up. It went up 32% from this time last year.

Atlanta has been named by many as the "Unofficial Capital of the South"

And for me, it already is. And for alot too.

Houton is Great, Atlanta is Great. Long live the two great cities.

Please check out my Atlanta thread.

wow what about Miami? that city is pretty big, but i'd have to say Atlanta, the skyline might be a little smaller but they have turner field, and Houston only has the Astros, who still haven't won a series yet

and Atlanta has oranges, and oranges are juicy

Atlanta reminds me of a theme park. Houston has a shiny beauty, not to mention the 5 skylines.

ummm...since when was atlanta well educated? Georgia State (yellowjackets, right?) has a good football team, but i don't think you'd consider it a top notch school. How about you atlantians go on about your great dogfighting scene? 3.gif

edit:

Despite just rippin on atlanta, Atlanta has a cool beautiful skyline, good culture, people, and is the most important city in the south. Houston is a great city but not as good.

Houston is about to look completely different. Most don't realize the 1,000 footers that are about to be released to the general public in Houston. Let's just say, I have good sources.

Edit: Houston and Atlanta are pretty alike. People don't realize that both Atlanta and Houston have more than one skyline. I'm not sure what they call them in Atlanta, but we have Midtown, Uptown, Downtown Houston, Greenway Plaza, Greenspoint, and the Texas Medical Center. They are all names of skylines in Houston. Here's what Uptown will look like by 2012:

2012 seems to be a big year for supertalls. freedom tower opens then, houston it looks like will have one done, boston will if it goes uninterrupted (which it won't), and some other cities will too. (won't nashvilles signature tower be finished that year?)

In any case, i love cities with multiple skylines, boston only has two, maybe 3, skyscraper areas 15.gif

I just came back from a trip to Houston and I can say theres nothing really special in the city. I mean the Galleria is just a over glorified mall with a bunch of hotels near it. We had a day to kill and all we did was basically drive back and forth on the 59 and in and out of downtown. The skyline looks spectacular but the downtown was dead. A lot of skyscrapers looked like someone just plopped them among suburban home areas. After seeing the Juice Box in person though, that was a very nice and HUGE stadium! And Reliant Stadium looks so strange looming above the strip malls and shopping centers. There may have been more to offer but Houston doesn't seem very tourist friendly. There is one thing I didn't expect though was the diversity. There seems to be a somewhat large Vietnamese population. On the other hand though, I probably won't go back to Houston for recreation.

You're right. They're got rid of everything touristy such as Astroworld. Fortunately, there are several projects, one from Disney, that will be coming to Houston in the next few years.

Yes, there is a very large Vietnamese population in Houston.  There's a part of Houston that would have you thinking you were in Vietnam if it wasn't for the architecture of the buildings.

Saying which city is better based on if you like their sports teams or not is really, really, really childish.

Anyhow, while I've never been to Atlanta (aside from the airport), I've only been to Houston twice (and one of those times was fairly recently), despite the fact that I live 2 hours west of it. But between the two, I'd have to choose Houston. I like its skyline, its freeway system is pretty good, and it has quite a few tourist attractions. Heck, just driving around the city is an attraction itself.

Houston doesn't have that many touristy things though. The last time I went, we went to the Space Center which was cool, and the San Jacinto Monument. The thing I hate with the monument is its location. The drive is kinda depressing or whatever, because you pass by all of this industrial area, and when you're in the park all you see is industrial stuff.

Would that be the area on Main St. by Ensemble/ HCC station up to Wheeler Station? Didn't remind of Vietnam at all. I just saw a lot of Vietnamese shops that are just lying next to empty lots, Tenderloin here seems more Vietnamish? or at least San Jose.

You should check out the middle western suburbs like along Harwin Road towards the Beltway. That is the "new chinatown" (which is not so chinese but vietnamese) where there is a large concentration of new arrival and middle class immigrants from Asia.

Houston has a "old chinatown" and also that area you saw, both are more or less dead.

Yea, that area seemed really dead. I saw homes boarded up kinda like in Detroit but right next to it was some apartment construction. Also i saw at least three rather tall hotels and apartments just sitting there abandoned right near the Greyhound station. Well we only drove up to Beltway 8 then turned right back around so we stayed mainly within the 610 loop area of Houston.

We passed through the Museum District, Texas Medical, and Downtown so much, I've got to remember a lot of streets. My dad was pretty bad at directions that trip. We also took the Metro for a spin. It's rather comfy but COLD! It was cool at Main Street square the tracks were above water. And i got some good shots from UH Downtown station. Downtown though was rather dissapointing maybe since it was Sunday in the afternoon?

I got quite a kick out of IAH's people mover. Reminded me of something from Disneyland LOL17.gif

I Never been to Houston and i recently moved Atlanta and i hate, so i will go with Houston, Atlanta is like a really big suburb that wishes it was a big importent city, it's full of crime, horrorible triffic, and nothing to really to do which is why the poeple spend more time robbing and killing each other to pass the time.
