Okay Atlanta and Houston are the two major cities in the South.  Both have unique and very different dt/mt.....

Which city is better?

Atlanta

I like Atlanta better, has nicer scrapers and is more powerful.

i used to live in houston so im biased...but looking at the big picture, yeah its oka...

i like dallas better than either... . But then again i dont know if Dallas is a true southern city. I think of it more as a Plains city like OKC and Kansas City. Of course saying texas is the south is pretty debatable anyways. Maybe east texas, but the rest of the state has its own identity, especially austin/san antonio

atlanta to me is just a hilly version of houston, its okay, but i dunno... but since im not from their i dont have any favorable biases towards it...

Yeah, same here. I'm from the Houston area, so I'm a little biased. But I think Dallas is the better out of both of them.

Atlanta is pretty beautiful, I must admit. But Houston is stretched out more so the skyline actually covers over a mile from Downtown Houston to the Galleria area and even north to Greenspoint.

Edit: I just noticed that Atlanta has no main theme. In Simcity 4, anything with a modern look is known as 1990s Houston. 2.gif

I've been to Atlanta and Houston and have to go with Houston. I liked both cities, but there's just something about Texas. By the way, I live in Wisconsin.

Houston is a nasty poluted mess, and Atlanta is well on it's way to becoming one. I can think of at least 10 southern cities that I like more than either of them.

I've never been to Houston, and I've lived in Atlanta for the past 3 years while I have attended school. Honestly, Atlanta is alright. The people definitely have this huge spirit about their city, but I don't see anything to brag about. The city wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Delta, and I personally don't like Delta and have been rejoicing since they have gone bankrupt and American can fly out of Atlanta with competitive prices now. Coca-Cola also has a strong influence in the city, and I'm a pepsi person, and you can't find Pepsi ANYWHERE. And everyone has a car because you need one in this city. That being said, you are dumb if you go out on any road in the metro atlanta area between the hours of 4 and 7 PM if you don't have to.

However, I do like the skyline of Atlanta better than Houston. I like the way the downtown skyline kind of progressively gets taller as it gets closer to the center (the Westin).

ok so i've never been to either, but i would have to say that from what i know about the two cities, and the pictures, maps and google earth images i've seen of the two i would have to say houston is better.

to me atlanta just seems like a giant suburb, with a few skyscrapers right in the middle and no real sense of the organic growth you get with some other cities.

i may be wrong, but that is how it seems to me, and this is something i never thought i'd say, but i'm gonna have to go with the texans on this one

I'm going with Atlanta, unique architecture, lots of sports arenas and domes. Great city, however the crime is not so attractive.....

I like Huston because it has a bigger skyline. But Atlanta is more eye pleasing.

I love both. I'm split. Both have problems, such as pollution, but, there are certain things about both cities I just love.

I love both cites! Both have that unique southern hospitality (which you wont find in cities like Miami), nice terrain, important economic centers internationally, nice suburbs, advance highway system and last, beautiful skylines. 10.gif

As for the air pollution problem in houston. Most of the pollution come from those outdated 50 year old oil refineries in the eastside (like the BP Texas City refinery which pollute the most in the U.S.) in which the oil companies are to damn cheap to update it and no really effective mean of mass transit (which most people know). 34.gif Other than that, pollution from vehicles is about the same as most cities like Washington D.C. That is my opinion

@ the person who said atl doesn't have internation influence:

-the busiest airport in the world, also the terminal to america, (and for us the terminal to the world)

    -centers for disease control

-the most recognizable consumer product in the world(that can be found on all 7 continents) coca-cola

    -the largest telecommunications hub(see airport)

-a whole host of technology corps(if you've used a computer, atlanta has had a part in it)

no international influence?  and that's just what I can think of off the top of my head

If we talk cuisine, entertainment, music, culture, history, nightlife, education, and etc. I think Atlanta is better.

We got the most recognizable consumer product in the world (like jmjselect said) Coca-Cola! Also, Atlanta is the home of the now defunct but once was one of the biggest wrestling promotion in the world, World Championship Wrestling -- WCW. Atlanta also is home to the billed "world's largest aquarium" the Georgia Aquarium. And yes, the busiest airport in the world! (Terminal to the world! Yes indeed you got that right.. haha). And what an extensive skyline we got. Stretching from Downtown - Midtown - Buckhead- Sandy Springs and other suburban area. Atlanta is also home to CNN, TBS, Cartoon Network, TNT, Boomerang and there maybe more (international influence right there!). Atlanta is also home to one of the most livable colleges "Georgia State University". 4 sports team call Atlanta their home: And what teams they are. We also hosted the 1996 summer olympics. And I think we are also considered as the unofficial capital of the south. Not much calamity here! average climate temperature! hhmmm Need I say more?

ATLANTA, GA never lost its southern charm! Y'all know that! Or maybe not.. haha.

Well, it's kind of hard to say what the "South" is. It can't simply be the southern U. S., or else El Paso, Phoenix, L. A., and San Diego would have to come into the argument. And then, there's the question of where the south starts and ends. I mean, can it really go as far west as Houston and as far north as Maryland and not include Dallas? I don't know...

Now, assuming that the only two cities in this arguement are Atlanta and Houston, I'm biased towards Houston, because I used to live near there, and I've never been to Atlanta. In terms of skyline, I think Houston wins, because it's skyline is larger and definatly more defined than Atlanta's. In terms of functions, I think Houston would be the industrial capital of the south and Atlanta would be the commercial capital (unless you count Dallas...). In terms of "World-City" qualifications, Houston wins that one, too. It's considered a "Second Tier" world city by some sources (it was a website I found while browsing this very forum on ST). And it makes sense, because it has more reason to interact with the rest of the world. So yeah, my bias is showing, I know, I can't help it. But I do give Atlanta credit as being the capital of the South (sorry, Richmond...). It's definately the hub of that part of the country, and historically one of the most important cities in the U. S.
