    Time for a new map?

It's not what you think. I came across an identical copy of the map I'm using today while shopping. With some updated roads and colors.
It's only possible for me to use if every thing is an exact replica of my 2003 map. But the 2006 Randy McNally uses the exact same size of map and grids.
My old map was more tape then map after so many years of use.

These are probably the two poorest pictures I have placed in this CJ but here is a small look at the main map I use to measure and make all of Edmonton possible to an exact scale. You can see the grids that mark where each city lies in the game. I mark these on the map for easy reference points. They follow the same grids the paper map has. A small city is 4.6cm or one small grid on the map.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Edm2bbb.jpg align=baseline>
I'll also be adding costum content to the map so I can do complex areas a little better. For some reason this is a 2006 map but is missing a huge area of the Anthony Henday ring road. So I have to add it to the map. Its the curved red line on the 2nd map just above in the SW corner....

I haven't worked on Edmonton in the last week. But I should tonight and may have an update. thanks for keeping posted.

I downloaded a trial version of Photoshop and figured I would play around with it a little. It's going to take me forever to accomplish a fraction of what others have with there CJ's but I want to add some more detail to some of the photos I show.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//00%201%20Edmonton%20Replies.JPG align=baseline>

Profecy : I'm glad to see how your Toronto region is coming along. Its nice to see some of the known landmarks match up well in your region aswell. I'm flattered if I could have been of any insperation.

Nycsc4 : I try to use google earth as much as possible. It wasn't around when I started this CJ and has prooved to be a great tool since then.

Hyped up Boy : Glad to see you back

Micah : Trust me I can see a million things that are mismatched and off.... This is one reason I don't have many updates for all the land that is covered. I'm never satisfied. I put up updates from time to time when they meat a certain standard. If I had more tools and time this CJ would be alot more accurate.

Nycsc4 : Edmonton is around 684sq/km. Thats only a fraction of my map and is only metro Edmonton. There is alot more to the Metro area.

First off, I myself am an Edmontonian, born July 31, 1982, at the Mizeracoria Hospital in the West end. I've lived nearly all my 23.5 years of life in Edmonton or the surrounds. In Edmonton: 2 blocks west of West Ed Mall, just north of Westmount Shopping Center, Bel Reve, and in the newer Miller residential area off 144Ave and the Manning FWY. Outside Edmonton: Spruce Grove, Redwater, Gibbons, an acreage out by Stony Plain, and Sherwood Park. Just bought a home out in Fort Saskatchewan. I'm in the military, and have done most of my training out in Ontario, and all I can say is there is nothing like home, Alberta is truly unique in Canada. Edmonton has a lot of quirks and oddities, from our killer weather, to messed up transportation network. Think our roads are curvy by this recreation? you oughta see our bus maps/routes, and a city with over 1M ppl that has only 1.5 real highways thru it. The Yellowhead simply doesnt count as a full highway, it has lights.
Dan, I am simply amazed by the accuracy and portrail you have given our home city to the SC4 community. To any Edmonton resident, you could UDI around this city you've done, without a map. Its so familiar its uncanny. Congrats on all the awards you've won for this, heck you deserve one from the City for showing it off so well. I can't possibly criticize you on anything here, this has got to be the closest reprezentation of Edmonton on any game out there currently, and using the limits of SC4 you've done it incredibly well.
lol, the only thing I can add to this, is that issue with 50St, N of 153rdAve. At 50 & 153rd there is now lights. And yes there has been recent housing developement there, with that wierd Y shaped road. They cut out a portion of 50th to make access for the new housing, looks really bad and makes no sense. If you can take a drive up there. No map I have shows it. Plus 153rd is now all 4 lane avenue all the way up to just before Miller Blvd. I can tell you this for sure, because when I lived in Miller, I take that route up to/from the Base, as does 70% of the military pop. of the city.
Over Christmas I flew in to the International, and had a chance to see the Anthony Henday ring road from above. I was able to see the dirt work is already done all the way out to HWY 14.
And the LRT expansion project. See this page: http://www.edmonton.ca/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_2_279_218_0_43/http%3B/CMSServer/COEWeb/roads+and+traffic/plans+and+initiatives/planning+studies/high+speed+transit/
Take a look at the summary reports, the one done by Stantec shows the ultimate plan for the LRT to be expanded West to West Edmonton Mall, and north up to NAIT and up 97th. Pretty nice stuff, maybe you can incorporate that into your copy?
And where did you find those large oil storage tanks? All I can find are the Mobil one's.
Great job man, keep it up!44.gif

Wow, what a beautiful farmland landscape! I'm wondering on how you get accurate when plopping the trees on the exact place!
    Simply beautiful!

Are trying to recreate the new interchange that we can see on your pics of your RandMcNally map?

    Cheers!

CfnNexus : Its nice to see anyone view and reply to my CJ. But I really like seeing people from Edmonton. They can see and notice the extra lengths I go to, to make this an accurate recreation.
Thank You very much for your long and in depth reply. I really enjoy when people take there time to put down what they think in more then 5 words. I haven't driven up to that 153rd ave area in a while even though its less then a km from my place. I will remake the area, and yeah I know what you mean but not being able to find any maps that go to the recent change.
I should be adding onto and continueing anthony henday to H14.
Keep in touch and posting. Nice to see you on here.

Mr. Beer : To get the trees accurate lets just say I alt+tab with google earth alot. And trust me they may look accurate but I'm often not pleased after I lay an area to see its off in a few ways. I usually leave it a little off to save time.

Sloppet : I have been to every corner of Edmonton. And I've been on almost every major road on the map. When it comes to side streets just a fraction. As for teh map this is just metro Edmonton. There is another 10-15 cities that make up the Edmonton Region a few km of the map....Anywhere from a few thousand to over 50,000 people.

Canuck360 : I'm surprised your just seeing this CJ. I don't know what part of Canada your from. But I would of coarse recomend coming in the summer. Edmonton has a ton of festivals and is known as the festival city aswell as the City of Champions. There is alot to do here for a prarie city. But in all honesty in the end its no LA NY or Vancouver when it comes to tourism and things to do. If you do make it out this way make sure you include either Banff or Jasper in the trip. I woud recomend July or August. Maybe catch the Edmonotn Grand Prix, some nice weather, West Edmonton Mall, the river valley, and the Capital Exibition all around the end of July...plus alot of other things...

Profecy : Thanks buddy. As a bartender your speaking my language but please edit that post if you get a chance lol.

Edmonton City Center Airport..... a look back.

This is Edmonton's secondary smaller airport located just north of downtown. Also home of the Champ Car Edmonton Grand Prix. I show it from time to time for different reasons. While playing the region for a short bit today I edited a few things to bring this medium sized map closer to being finished. LoL... only on year 620 for this area of the recreation.
Like I said before I want to bring more indepth coverage of how accurate this region is. I'm not saying this is overly accurate. I can point out a number of things I still want and/or need to change. But you be the judge...

this airport is just awesome, one of the best I have saw, and it a pity we can not make diagonal lanes, that would be great, but your idea with the tarmac looks great..

I didn't want to wait to show the new content page I made.
Edmonton is quickly reaching 60 pages and to keep track of pages 60 to 120 I had to make a new header. I want to bring a higher level of graphics to the CJ aswell.
